Good day nairalanders, please I’m in a fix and I need advice from people in the system .
I’m currently pregnant for my fiance. He’s currently based in South Africa with a volunteer visa/permit. He wants me to apply for visit visa and come and join him so the child can be born there. But I have my reservations please. I already read on the internet that giving birth in South Africa does not qualify for automatic citizenship. Please advise. Is it advisable I go there or just stay back in nigeria,

U can visit him but going there to give birth just because of citizenship that wont happen.

Even if it will not anytime soooooooooooooon. Sa can only issue a hand written birth certificate and ask u go back to Nigeria to register ur child.

Citizenship only happen if either of the parent are south african citizen.

And if u give birth here ur child would have to stay in sa for atleast 18 years befor he or she could be granted citizenship.

And mind you if u come with visiting visa how long would u even stay in sa? Cos if u must exceed it stay which he may ask u. That means u would have to go on Asylum with ur child.

NB. These is open to changes and contributions and rectifications. Just a personal opinion

I applied since 18th of March for visiting visa at the vfs center in Abuja and up till now nothing. I thought I'd spend Easter there as i wanted going for only 2 weeks and coming back to Nigeria. Now i just wan my passport back with/without visa. I even called their customer care number last week Monday and they told me to wait a little. It's frustrating
Same date my wife and daughter applied, they had a soccer team there that day applying too...
Not a word from them yet till today.
my wife and child were also meant to spend the Easter break there. Really unfortunate.

Really so if it's just one lady working, that is attending to them do they stil have to deny a visa on account of late.

Is really so unfair that these is happening...

Waiting for a study visa for 3 months and counting now

I'm beginning to have a hunch these people no longer want foreigners studying in there country anymore.. delaying in visa processing is a way to cut down on it. they delay to frustrate people to the point of giving up...

Maybe but then then should come open and say so. Instead of playing delay tactics.

He want us to live in South Africa with him

Ask your man what he is doing for a living . A lot of Nigerians are doing legal business or work and some are busy selling drugs or doing plastics ( atm fraud) ..2. A child born in sa doesn't become citizen until he is 18years . 3 . what will u be doing with visitor visa ? 4 you can't change your status .5 . Is he really employed or doing illegal or legal business ? All these questions must be answered

I have my South African Visa already and I have paid for my flight booking through a third party platform (www.ajala.ng). Please will there be any issue raised at the port of entry for booking through a third party?

Also, I hope hotel booking with payment on arrival will not raise issues at the port of entry?
