Theresa May Announces Her Resignation As British Prime Minister by Ayodele70(op): 10:39am On May 24, 2019
Theresa May has bowed to intense pressure from her own party and named 7 June as the day she will step aside as Conservative leader, drawing her turbulent three-year premiership to a close.

Speaking in Downing Street, May said it had been “the honour of my life” to serve as Britain’s second female prime minister.

Her voice breaking, she said she would leave “with no ill will, but with enormous and enduring gratitude to have had the opportunity to serve the country I love”.

The prime minister listed a series of what she said were her government’s achievements, including tackling the deficit, reducing unemployment and boosting funding for mental health.

But she admitted: “It is and will alway remain a matter of deep regret to me that I have not been able to deliver Brexit.

May’s announcement came after a meeting with Graham Brady, the chair of the backbench 1922 Committee – which was prepared to trigger a second no-confidence vote in her leadership if she refused to resign.

Her fate was sealed after a 10-point “new Brexit deal”, announced in a speech on Tuesday, infuriated Tory backbenchers and many of her own cabinet – while falling flat with the Labour MPs it was meant to persuade.

So you mean Theresa May resigned in the month of may huh
This May just be the news of the month. Maybe our leaders can learn once more that power isn't a do-or-die affair instead of unleashing mayhem on their subjects and leaving them shouting mayday mayday due to the pains from their misrule. lipsrsealed

Re: Theresa May Announces Her Resignation As British Prime Minister by SoNature(m):
So sad.

As it is now, nobody wishes to be the British Prime Minister. Negotiating Brexit and building consensus in HoC is an uphill task.

These guys should make Jeremy Corbyn the new PM, so that we will see what he can do. It's easier to criticize than lead.

Cameron saw this coming and ran away!

The biggest challenge now remains the Irish backstop.

Britain is at a crossroads as its future is bleak.

Well done, May..

You have done your bit.

This resignation is victory for the little people, for the ordinary Britons who voted en-masse to leave the economic cum political Union but got betrayed by their own Prime Minister. Now is the time for a true Brexiteer to take over and implement the people's will. This would be the only way the Conservative party would forestall their impending doom. The people want to take back control of their fishing waters, of the their farms, and of their immigration system from a group of unelected beaurocrats in Brussel.

Sad...the problem is Brexit.

The problem is, many people don't want to accept the results of a valid referendum, and the EU put up strict condtions for the UK to discourage other members from leaving.

If I were British, I would be for Remain, however, I think the UK should leave because democracy sometimes means accepting results we don't like.

Back in 1993 in Nigeria, we got 5 more years of brutal millitary rule because some people did not want to accept the result of an election (and no, I don't think Abiola was the answer).

ahaha Brexit don show her pepper.

On a serious note, this is a nation where the demands of the people come first and far above the ego or interest of any individual.

Blue3k:

The problem is, a large chunk of the elite don't support Brexit.

Then there are issues like Northern Ireland, potential job losses due to companies leaving because of Brexit and so on
