What they do now is helping house owners with prepaid metres to bypass some gadgets in their houses. If u have 4 A.C., 2 will be connected to the prepaid metre etc.

Dear, I run a business too. It's my prerogative to give my customers quality services. If I don't, there are other providers. Now, the onus lies solely on me to ensure my customers don't shortchange me either by better technology or the tenets of the law. Same time, I can't expect my customers to be always happy in dealing with my shortcomings. Some times I have to bear some loses. It is part of business.
The basic thing is to provide the services being paid for. Period.
Which is what they are doing, disconnecting freeloaders and those who are owing and still don't want to pay. It's not 24 hrs yet and they won't pay. When it is 24hrs, will they then pay? They will probably start shouting that 50k/100k is exorbitant.

grin grin grin You remind me of the incompetence in the Nigerian system...

In the late 80s, Nigerians were used to Water corporation guys going everywhere to disconnect their customers from water lines, the people begged them for meters but they won't provide one. Today everyone can use a pumping machine to get water from the ground and store it in tanks for future use.

NITEL was busy disconnecting people from the lines and bringing huge bills for the citizens. Today, well organized private telecom industries has taken over from them and Nigerians are happy.

Back to our beloved electricity companies holding Nigerians ransom, I believe a time would come when we will have more reliable players who will deliver quality service to all and sundry without making life difficult for the citizens...
I really hope that time will come soon. Hopefully, we will be able to afford it.

I believe that something similar to this will happen in electricity. With the falling prices of solar panels, people will be forced to generate their own electricity, especially for domestic use, and render the Discos and gencos useless. The only problem right now is the storage system (Batteries), by the time battery technology becomes more efficient and cheap, the shakara of the power companies would be curtailed.

grin You have sense...

When other countries are investing in technologies that will render our institutions useless, we are busy promoting mediocrity. Let's pretend like nothing is happening and lets keep laughing at the incompetent politicians feasting on the Commonwealth of the masses. Thumbs up to you for thinking correctly...
