Concluded the final season of GoT and have been wondering why some people were wailing and gnashing their teeth over the season, especially the season finale. Apart from the season being too short, the season ended well. Which led me to conclude that those asking for the redoing of the final season: 1. Were finding it hard to move on after being addicted to the series for so long. 2. Wanted the series to continue after this season. 3. Wanted the episodes to be a bit longer than just 6 episodes (this is the category I fall in). 4. Were Love struck fans who wanted Nollywood-esque ending where Jon gets to kill the Night King, marry Dany and they give birth to kids and live happily ever after. They're probably writhing in pains seeing Bran as the Lord of The Six Kingdoms. Majority of the disgruntled fans are found here. Bunch of entitled teenagers that are yet to accept the fact that the ending of movie/series mustn't be like a fairytale. We don't always get what we want at the end of movies/series, it's entirely up to the directors to decide which way a series/movie could end. Apart from the season being too short, the season ended perfectly, including the painful deaths/losses. Next on my must-watch list will be Breaking Bad, Wire and The Sopranos, since some people rated them above GoT. I want to see why they're rated this highly. 3 Likes |

Beorn:Don't think so, man. The season had a lot of potential, but DnD rushed the whole thing, and ended up half-assing it in the end. Even the actors weren't happy. Beorn:It's natural for a fan of a beloved tv show to be disappointed by a lackluster finale, esp when they had had to wait two whole years for it. You can't begrudge a disgruntled fan for wanting a do-over. Beorn: Hmmm, I'm triggered but I'm gonna be chill, because I respect your opinions. Speaking for myself, I realistically wasn't expecting Jon to kill the NK, nor ascend to the Iron Throne. Thanks to watching a lot of mysteries, I've become well acquainted with the notion of red herrings in storytelling. I suspected Jon would be a red herring when he came back from the dead in season 7. I knew his larger than life presence in the primary plot line would sway the audience in his favor, thereby, giving the plot enough breathing room to manoeuvre, and thus, create an "unexpected" plot twist. I was fully expectant that he will be usurped by someone close to him, someone like Dany perhaps? You know what I didn't expect? I didn't expect him to kill Dany, and I sure as hell didn't expect him to be sentenced to the Night's watch. I mean, after having brought people together, and motivated them to fight for their lives, he got sent back to Night Watch just like that to forever be Jon_fucking Snow? WTF?! And you called that a befitting ending?? Killing him off in an epic battle would have been a more worthy sendoff IMO. Such a lame-ass writing. Another thing worth noting is Dany doesn't deserve what the writers did to her. They turned her into her father out of the blue, and then killed her off like a dog. After all the_bullshit about being a fair queen and whatnot, they completely chucked her character development out the window, and turned her into a genocidal maniac. How does that make sense? As lame-ass writing as it gets, man. Also, Cercei didn't deserve to die so quickly, esp when you consider the fact that she's responsible for more than 50% of deaths in the show. I expected her to be defiant in a slow painful death, cuz she had always struck me as that kind of woman, not cowering in fear in a quick death. If you had had to wait for TWO YEARS for an epic, but bittersweet ending as was PROMISED, but instead, got a mediocre ending that wasn't nearly a shade of sweet as it was bitter, what would be your reaction? Yeah, I know, you'd be raving about it and dissing unsatisfied fans. I understand HBO rushed the whole thing due to budgetary reasons, but at least, they should have put more effort in the season finale. Joered63: I'm assuming Charlie Brooker (Black Mirror creator and writer) is aiming to go back to the original format, which is 3 episodes per season, basically. It's just that I've gotten used to having a 6 episode season since Netflix bought the rights from Channel 4. To suddenly go back to a 3 part season is kinda disappointing. |
