The state government is delibrating on the matter and seeks public opinions

Something must be done...... Lagos is too dirty and smelly.....
Re: Lagosians Do You Support The Return Of Monthly Sanitation Exercise by Nobody: 7:11pm On Jun 01, 2019
No, instead stiff regulations and penalties should be issued for property owners who don't clear their drainage and dispose of waste properly, if the front gate entrance of every property in Lagos looks clean, everywhere will be clean, as long as government agencies and contractors handle roads and public places. Public offices and officials can have environmental day, but don't force it on private individuals and firms.

All of you saying yes. The dirt/refuse that would be left after the sanitation who will clear them?

Which developed or sane country still or ever does this primordial and back-peddaling exercise of restricting people's movements and volition for about 3 hours all in the name of scoring some cheap political point?
Is it for want of imagination or invention that our leaders are so set in their ways?
We should employ the force of risks to innovate and not submit to the logic of convention.

Why
the sanitation is just another means of milking Lagosians. Police and other sanitation task force officials arrest people just for them to bail themselves out. Moreover, restriction of movement in that name of sanitation is unconstitutional and against human rights.

No Way! Lagos is now too big a city to be totally grounded just for the sake of cleaning gutters. Research even shows that only 5% of eligible population used to partake in Clean ups. Others sleep or read newspapers or have street meetings.
If the government and the PSP do their work well there will be no need for this debate.

Is it as big as China that goes on 3 weeks hols on a stretch?
This is just a day in a month...In respect of d noncompliance of persons to their sanitary duties, appropriate authorities can be put in place to ensure d opposite.Sensitization program can also help d inhabitants to see d need for this

Monthly sanitation exercise doesn't make sense. People just stay at home and do nothing. Most see it as partial imprisonment. Is it the way it's done in other places? Certainly no. The culture of cleanliness should be inculcated in the citizens. People should make sure they do things that should make environment clean. Dropping refuse in the wrong place should be discouraged. If this is done, the environment will definitely be clean.
Re: Lagosians Do You Support The Return Of Monthly Sanitation Exercise by Michaelf833(m): 7:19pm On Jun 01, 2019
Must you all wait till the last Saturday before you clean your environments.... Why do the government pay for cleaners then??

They should employ more staff for that if needed, and above all most Lagos road doesn't have a good drainage system..

All these need to be sorted out.

Also the drainage to be channeled well not just doing a small drainage where a bigger one is needed. Why is most road flooded when there is no good drainage system.... Dirts are be transferred everywhere by flood, so the government need to sort some things out also from their end.

It's disgraceful that in the 21st century, a set of individuals believe that for one of Africa's most populated cities to be clean, a day should be set aside in a month to do so. Signs of low IQ and pervasive ineptitude. Many businesses which thrive during weekends will generate low revenue; jobs will be lost, taxes will dwindle and the economy will see less growth. But no! Cretinous fvcktards believe slating a day aside to clean a city makes you clean.

Cleanliness is a habit and not an event - MadCow1

that's the job of the government. They should create a law to that effect and empower LAWMA to do their job
the first thing the state government should do is close all the drainages and install manhole at strategic points. Use the sanitation days as medical outreach and community development and finally make offenders of minor crimes like thugs fighting on the street to do community service where they would clean the environment

lagosians can't wake up and Clare the gutters that is around their house

that is why people keep killing snakes in their houses because of dirty and unkept environments

we need to learn to be self discipline

Self discipline is the missing ingredient to the success of this country....its very self evident in reckless driving.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, presided over by Justice Mohammed Idris, has nullified the restriction of movement during the monthly environmental sanitation in the state.

The policy of the Lagos State Government restricts citizens to their homes for three hours between 7am and 10am every last Saturday of the month.

The court held that there is no law in force in Lagos State by which any citizen could be kept indoors, compulsorily.

That was the ruling of a Federal Court.
The appeal window has closed.
