In furtherance of the directive of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Ministry of the Environment today, Saturday commenced desilting exercise across the metropolis, through its zonal offices. Our team on monitoring exercise captured scenes of the ongoing desilting of weep holes, and drainages around Ojota, Oworonsoki expressway areas. According to Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, the intention of the state government is to reduce the incidence of flooding as we gradually approach the rainy season. While the exercise continues, residents of the State have been urged to complement the efforts of the state government by cultivating a clean and hygienic environmental attitude and avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste in unauthorized areas. Something more is needed. An anti - littering law is needed. A stitch in time saves nine. Most of what blocks the drains are litter and if these could be prevented in the first place, the blocked drains problem is half solved. Next is an orientation program educating the people about the dangers of litter and one of which is blocked drains and the attendant flooding it endangers. What is interesting is that once the poor get the sense of any message, they tend to show zeal in abiding with it,especially if it better their lives. 27 Likes |

Why must we always enjoy fire brigade approach to everything in this country?? Why why why!!! You can hardly get a fair result with extra humongous resources in fire brigade situation. This is not an emergency, the agency in charge had the whole of the dry season to have done a thorough job. They just end up endangering people's lives while pocketing the common wealth |
