The US government can spy on their citizens' phone calls and internet activities. They also spy on other country's citizen through their applications like facebook, twitter and etc.
Huawai is lunching a 5G network and they feel the Chinese would use it to exploit their people and spy on them.

Imagine Google wants to build a personality profile of you, they can mine and map out data of you for the last 10 years and construct a personality profile. Their A.I knows more about you than you know yourself. ( i.e can play for you music you like etc)

Hardly would the policy of submitting social media account be effected. More so, there is ethical concerns in doing that and continues to be a debate amongst policy makers. The world also have a say when America is going beyond line of comfort. Immigration is an international affair. That’s why America keeps accepting Asylum Applications till date.

It is not illegal, they have every right to dictate or request such info as part of their Visa app and immigration screening process.

They do demand the same social media info from job applicants in the US and it's not against their law to do so.

They aren't forced to apply.

If the Nigeria government decide to ask visa applicants for their SM details, no Nigerians will be affected by
such directive and it has no bearing on local democracy or governance.
