Minna is relatively safe, just endeavor to stay in the hostel. If you must stay off campus, I will advise that you stay very close to the school, possibly in a hostel with many other students. In short, don't stay far, and stay amongst other students.
I guarantee you will love Minna, if you choose to school there.
