Awoo88:I know you guys will wail at Jonathan's loss till eternity, but Jonathan's fuel removal strategy was ill conceived and deceptive. Besides, people generally did not trust Jonathan with the extra money that would have been be raised a result of subsidy removal. Nigeria has been removing subsidy since the 70s, had subsidy on petrol ever been removed? No. Why? Because as long as we import petrol, subsidy can never be removed. The more we remove subsidy, the more we will spend in naira to import the same quantity of petrol and the more the naira will fall, leading to inflation and the need for subsidy again. After Dangote refinery and some other private refineries comes on board, and it's able to either reduce or eliminate the dependence on imported petrol, the government can then think of removing subsidy on petrol. |

Bro it’s actually true, the government should stop paying subsidy in Nigeria on fossil fuel and channel the money being paid on subsidy on infrastructural development and provision of employment NB:if only they will not embezzle the money.this way the government will achieve 2 basic things 1)reduction in environmental pollution and warming of the green house by reducing the number of cars, people can always take public transports which the government will provide in each cities with the funds which is meant to be paid on subsidy,or people can as well settle for car pooling I.e 3-4 people that works in the same area or move in the same direction leave there cars and use just one car and rotate it this way. 2)the government will have more money to provide social amenities. THAINK YOU greatiyk4u: |

There is no govt policy in Nigeria intended to help the poor. |

Glorylynn:Government cannot just remove subsidy on petrol without increase in local production. If subsidy is suddenly removed and petrol prices jump to N200 per litre overnight, there would be social unrest as Labour, students, opposition parties and the general masses would take to the streets. Petrol increases have been known to bring down governments in other parts of the world. |

iammo:Then stop painting dangote as an alternative. Aside from jobs created by the refinery, the Nigerian people would still be paying very high. |
| Re: Nigeria’s Fuel Subsidy Not Helping The Poor — World Bank by wirinet(m): 7:29am On Jun 04, 2019 |
TSRC:The greatest advantage is that we would not need dollars to import petrol anymore, so no subsidies and the price can be stable. |

TSRC:Dangote is the best alternative..... remove subsidy and watch inflation skyrocket, support Dangote and watch price crash and goverment save scarce forex while earning tax |

In this government, there's nothing in Nigeria that's helping the poor. |

tactius:The same way a floating exchange rate affects the price of imported drugs and small items that affect the poor, is the same way an open market in the oil sector would affect countries that are highly import dependent, the same way removal of subsidy encourages rent seekers in the oil sector and importation at lower cost, the true picture is real investment come in when the market is predictable and stable, people can look at it from different angles but the overall interest of the majority is more important then the benefit to few - refineries are also protected when established because they are the ones that would receive these subsidies, furthermore no subsidy opens the space for importation at the lower costs (dumping comes to mind) as against forcing the true investors that would be protected from importers - why does America as a country still subsidize agriculture if subsidy was bad? and the world Bank don't talk about that? China subsidize commerce by establishing SOE's and the world Bank kicks against it, America is fighting China because of it, but it's beneficial to the larger group of their citizenry - we were taught in school that monopoly is bad, oligopoly neither here or there, perfect competition is the best which means the market is open to all, but in the long run if we follow the price and demand competition curve what happens? In my opinion, if it does happen, price fixing becomes the ultimate all the competitors come together and fix a unified price which would not be in the consumers best of interest. |

iammo:I don't support subsidy removal. I don't think the buhari government can handle the economic consequences for Nigerians. But at the same time, dangote alone is not an alternative. He is a capitalist and unless we have a stream of competitive investors building their own refineries before dangote gets a chance to dictate the entire value chain, Nigerians are fuccked. Nigeria pay one of the highest prices for cement in the world, despite having so much limestone. That is because of dangote. The major advantage in dangote is that he has blazed the trail for the private sector to take over. |

F&@k the World Bank and alll those funny CIA controlled organizations, who are mainly designed to ruin other countries' economies. Same way they've been compelling us from independence to devalue our currency. See how from a glorious Naira in the 70s to the near-tissue-paper it has become today. And guess what, they are asking us to devalue still. Again, f&@k the World Bank! |

I remember a candidate once said that if the people would elect him, he’d build 6 refineries in the 6 geopolitical zones in 4yrs to end the subsidy regime. The people delivered, he didn’t! 4yrs later we’re still suffering & smiling, while some paid goons tell us how we’re making progress! (Said paid goons are also suffering with us o!) ![]()

“Strong evidence shows that a lot of countries put subsidy on fossil fuels, and these subsidies are insufficient to support the poor. They aggravate resources consumption, pollution and greenhouse gas. Globally, subsidies on fossil fuels are huge,”And removing the subsidy will help the poor, right? Rubbish talk by the rubbish world bank official. The idiot even linked fuel subsidy to pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. So, we should remove subsidy so that poor people won’t be able to afford fuel and hence, consumptions will reduce so as to reduce pollution and gas emissions. These white imperialist really don’t think so much of us. Smh! |
