Who does not know. But atheists will deny anything deniable. My atheist lecturer at the university told us how he was allowing his wife take his kids to church and then it will get to a point when he will takeover from there. In me I thought why wait until a certain time. Why not start telling them even as kids that there is not a God?

Guy stop lamenting. Christianity is generally known for peace even in the face of persecution, condemnation, threats of annihilation. Same cannot be said of others. Just attack their God and see as all hell is let loosed. So you should be glad your religion is tolerant, peaceful and accommodating. Read up the history of world religions. Many persons were publicly murdered by fanatics of the churches in Europe under fancy terms like heresy. If you disagree with the church, you die. If someone accuses you of withcraft, you die. If you try to translate the Bible for the commoners and you get caught, you die. It was that bad.

It is one of the good effects churches have, the sense of community. It is not particularly unique however as any organisation of people into a community for mutual benefit will generally have the same effect.

Taking responsibility, facing and accepting the realities of adulthood is the number one cause of unhappiness amongst grown ups. The coverage their parents offer that made them cruise life without any sense of responsibility has been outlived. Believing in God in such case is soothing, its a re-establishment of the idea that someone, somewhere cares for you, and make sure you are fine. And this, makes people happy.
