The Panasonic is an LED

You can read up its reviews online

Panasonic TX-47AS740B

This is where I saw the LCD or am I missing something here

Manufacturers describe their TVs as they wish Sir smiley

LCD....LED....Same stuff with different names....I once read online that it's just the backlight arrangement that differentiates the two and sometimes manufacturers use them interchangeably

As long as the TV is smart, slim, has a great picture quality, has great power saving capacity, and serves me well, I dont care if what is written on its back is LED, LCD, Plasma, UHD, 4k, SMG, RIP, GCFR or whatever grin

The Panasonic is a modern TV by all standards...So nomenclature doesn't bother me smiley

Wrong!! you obviously have not experienced 4k content on a big 4k display.

I have Sir....at least i did when I visited Fouani showroom smiley

Get a good 1080p TV with good refresh rates and color balance and a 4k TV...play the same 1080p video on both and tell me the difference grin

I don't know about you...but in my area, 4k content is not yet common or mainstream ...I cant go to fzmovies.net to download new movies and find an option to download them in 4k...that's pretty much the situation in other video download sites

Besides you need to be really close to a 4k TV to appreciate its 4k video visuals...much much closer than normal peeps sit from their TVs grin....sit much farther from the TV and you will be hard pressed to tell the difference from 1080p video

Aside a ps4 pro, and for those who have data to do 4k Netflix where there is the highest concentration of 4k videos online, I do not think there is really any need for an average resident of Nigeria to buy a 4k TV

You were not buying a brand new tv, you were buying USED TOKUNBO tv.

Its like buying a Tokunbo car and saying you are not willing to change the breakpads, oil or tyres because you bought it and expect everything to work.

Why I keep repeating this is that most of people on that link said their Samsung TVs "stopped" connecting not that it "never" connected. And simple factory resets did not solve their problems.

I hope you will not abandon this your new tv if you have any small hiccups as you seem capable of more if you put your mind to it.

LED tvs is a subset of LCD tvs, meaning all LEDs are LCDs. So the fact that the badge has LCD does not mean its not LED. I think It is LED anyway because of the low power the OP describes that it uses.

Also a link from Panasonic support describing the panel as IPS LED.

So I start doing my research...

I come on nairaland, read through all the TV sales threads of different sellers....They have a lot of nice TVs no doubt, but all of them were far from my location...and despite the majorly good reviews some of them had, I decided I will have to buy a TV after examining it myself physically....I took into consideration the fact that they are TV vendors, and may not fully appreciate my reasons for refusing a TV...besides, none of them ever stated the exact wattage of their TV's power consumption ....What the hell is the meaning of "low power consumption" ....180 watts can be low power consumption for some people, not me sha....So there goes one red flag grin

How will I coman tell Acunon or Sommydisaster that I don't like the TV he sold to me because the movies skip on the TV when screen mirroring, or the wifi isn't as strong as I want cry ....Many things can be wrong with a TV, and even with the most honest of sales men, only a physical inspection by a buyer who knows what he is looking for may disclose such weaknesses...

It was on nairaland I got to hear of 4k TVs...I then decided my TV had to be 4k as well grin ....I felt the bump in resolution will make the TV display better...What I later found out is a story for another day undecided....

So I finally decided I was gonna go out to a shop, and buy my TV after extensive testing...

So I put in a flash drive some movies with strange video formats, charged and loaded data for TV online research on my Samsung phone which also had smart view (that's Samsung's own screen mirroring app), and set out to buy my TV ....I also made a mental note not to be cajoled into going for less....I was fully ready to spend 6 hours testing TV before I pay... grin

Person wey see me go think say na 2019 G-wagon I wan go buy grin.... all this wahala on top common TV...please leave me alone...You wont buy me a new one if I end up being dissatisfied with my purchase...180k is beans yeah grin...but even spilling a pot of beans on the floor is painful tongue
okada man abeg stop here. This is the bus stop am dropping make I hear some sweet gist

Very true... Nice thread I must say.

I recently got a TV here on Nairaland, and looked back now I should have entered a shop myself like you did, instead of relying on sellers word, pictures and delivery.

My TV is far from what I expected. Sound, color quality below par, audio jack is missing etc....

Seems I have to accept my fate cos I don't think I have that time/energy to pursue this.

Wow! This is such an interesting expository. I also remembered when I was yearning to change my 150watts led TV to an energy saver one. But thank God at last I got the best TV when it comes to low power consumption, good picture quality, screen mirror, smartness, play every movie format including SRT subtitles, very good sound quality, inbuilt satellite receiver for free to air which am watching as am typing this piece, it also has a playback when your hard drive is connected to it this feature makes me to pause live programs and even rewind them and can even save them if I like. The power consumption is just 34watts which is the least I've ever seen on a 43 inch t.v, the model is LG 43LH604v. U can never go wrong by choosing this t.v.

Wow...this your article deserves award..thanks for this
..
And btw,what's your take on hisense 65a6100uw/65a6500uw ? It's a 4k HDR 65inch TV which cost from 230-270k on jumia..it has good rating on jumia(4-4.3) by 11people
Power consumption is 180watt(on paper)
..
..
Consumer/buyers Reviews on youtube says its good for a $500 tv
It claims to have 120hz refresh rate on paper but its actually 60hz but they said its very good and OK for gaming
I also think it can connect to the internet and also do screenmirror..
Is it advisable to go for it?
