Relative truth.

When I learned to speak French I tried speaking "French French". That is French, the French way. If you live in a place for several years you should speak their language the way they speak it, if you can. When you speak your native language speak it with your native tone .

No two languages are same and it's a plus if you can speak them and accord each its unique qualities as spoken by the original owners.

It's foolishness speaking Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa with a foreign accent. On the other hand, if you live in a foreign land for several years I would expect you to speak that foreign language the way the locals speak it, except you have a heavy tongue and really can't do it. If you can, why not?

Many of our native languages were produced in modern written form by the Whites. Some of the foreign missionaries learnt our languages and even went ahead to translate the Bible into those local languages. That's excellence.

Don Moen did Igbo songs with Frank Edwards and he did well pronouncing those Igbo words the Igbo way. If you can speak English the Oyinbo way, fine, but when speaking your native language speak it heavy with your native accent.

I agree. The most important thing is communication. No one will hate your accent if they can understand you. So instead of worrying about accents, worry about how to make people hear you clearly. Heck, i dont even care how well you can fake an american accent, the native speakers of a language will always know you are foreign, so guess be original and speak clearly.
