Good development, failing to do youth service should not have effect on one's future in government or any other field in as much the person has all the requirements. NYSC these days is not like in those days where you were assured of a job already ,it's merely a waste of time to do one more year in addition to the 4 years suffering in school and also good development for those who school abroad.

The section states: “A person shall be qualified for election to the office of Governor of a State if: (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth; (b) he has attained the age of thirty-five years; (c) he is a member of a political party and is sponsored by that political party, and (d) he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent.”

What rubbish?

So me that did NYSC, I don't have sense abi?

The ruling does not make sense...and even to some extent violates precedent.

I expect it would be quashed on appeal.

All of our leaders since 1999 have not been just school cert holders...they all have had higher qualifications than school cert.

And if ou want to be president...stop grumbling, go and join a party, and run for election.....you will win.

This last election, I was promoting Moghalu, who has degrees up to PhD. People like you were laughing at me.

We just love wahala, nysc is never a criterion for contesting election, it is only applicable for anyone to be appointed, the people can decide to employ you or not through the ballot if you don't serve but they have no such power over appointees, that's why it's a criterion for appointment.
So the case of ministers or commissioners is different. Our media sef no dey help matter.

I'm not a Buhari lover....but

1.Assuming Buhari was completely innocent and he had his school cert, and was challenged in court...he still has to get lawyers to defend him.

Rule no one of legal challenges...when facing one, even if you are 988% sure of your innocence...get a lawyer or lawyers.

2.Buhari has his school certificate by the way, or he would not have been able to apply for the attestation that he got from the Head of WAEC recently. And if Buhari had not written his certificate exams...the Head of WAEC would have had nothing to use to prepare the attestation document.

3.There was no way Buhari would have been allowed into what is now the NDA without proof that he wrote his WAEC...especially as the NDA was being run by the British then, and they were a lot more stricter then

Anyway, how Buhari and APC are ruining this economy by not cutting excessive government spending concerns me more than certificate or no.

The law is simply following the constitution.

There's absolutely no reason why fail fail Adeleke should qualify to contest for governor whilst a graduate would be overlooked on the basis of not completing NYSC.

Adeleke DIDN'T write all his exams.
He was ALLEGED to be misbehaving/cheating in the exam hall and MAYBE quarrel with the school authority. So, he decided not to come back to write the remaining papers.
Even if you have passed your GCE, you need to sit for WAEC which is the proof of completion of program in order to get a school leaving certificate. That's the mistake he made.
If he had F9 parallel, he shouldn't have been sanctioned. He pursued money but NEVER knew he could need the result for anything.

for ministers is it a requirement?
Yes, it is. That's why one (fake) was made for Adeosun(Commissioner and Minister for Ogun and NIGERIA respectively)
I think it's in the NYSC Act or Constitution,I can't remember specific for now but I've seen it before.
MODIFIED
Most of the time, na oversabi, ego and pride dey kill us, most of our politicians possess the minimum requirement to contest, but in the process of showing off, they lie about their qualifications and start tendering what they don't have, eg, contesting for president, you can actually contest without ssce, a pry sch leaving cert with about 10yrs govt work experience is enough (no post was stated, so you can be a cleaner and still be eligible), I think some experience in the private sector is also allowed.
If you are also involved in charity work that the government acknowledged, the NYSC criterion can be waived for you as a minister but the president must have given you an award of service to the nation before such waiver

[s]Seriously, you guys should give your bitterness a break.

Buhari graduated from what is now the NDA. At the very least he has a qualification equivalent to a BSc.

Also, service in the Army excludes you from needing to go for NYSC...besides, Bubu had been in the Army for 12 years when NYSC was set up.

And check out most of our governors...99% of them have their BSc. Even Gandollars has PhD ....from University of Ibadan self! smiley..Is educaiton a scam.

If you want to be President...stop grumbling. Go into politcs...and run for office. Don't be lazy. The Buhari you are mocking spent 10 years running for President. And it is not as if even the Northern elites liked him either[/s].

Incoherent argument
