Yes, it is. That's why one (fake) was made for Adeosun(Commissioner and Minister for Ogun and NIGERIA respectively)
I think it's in the NYSC Act or Constitution,I can't remember specific for now but I've seen it before.
MODIFIED
Most of the time, na oversabi, ego and pride dey kill us, most of our politicians possess the minimum requirement to contest, but in the process of showing off, they lie about their qualifications and start tendering what they don't have, eg, contesting for president, you can actually contest without ssce, a pry sch leaving cert with about 10yrs govt work experience is enough (no post was stated, so you can be a cleaner and still be eligible), I think some experience in the private sector is also allowed.
If you are also involved in charity work that the government acknowledged, the NYSC criterion can be waived for you as a minister but the president must have given you an award of service to the nation before such waiver
thanks for this

This country is very deep. The more you look the less you see. The deeper you go the better for you.

Nigerian law was only meant to impoverish the poor.

In fact, University education in Nigeria is a waste. I regret it. But then, my wards must go there to make friends and create relationship, since that is all the 'papers' can afford.

In essence, someone vying for an elective post doesn't necessarily need nysc cert. But working in the civil service you need experience and nysc cert.

Let's wait for supreme Court. I guess someone will challenge the high court ruling.

Lawyers are going straight to the base of hell. you can contest election with school cert, and you are filling a case against failure to serve NYSC. if it was a case of NYSC cert forgery, it would have been acceptable.

But what if someone gain admission at the age of 28, it's obvious that he/she will exceed the statutory age for NYSC before graduation, does it mean that the person can never be appointed for any political office even though he/she is properly qualified for the job?

Did you read the news at all?

NYSC is not the issue here. The issue is also not whether you need NYSC to get employment. The issue is whether there is a law that mandates that one needs NYSC to get a public office.

Provisions are made for those who graduate after 30 years.

However, some people graduate before 30 but skip NYSC. However, APC has a point here. While one needs proof of NYSC to get employment. I don't think one needs it to get a public office such as the office of governor.

Sirpaul:
so to say NYSC na scam
NYSC has long been a scam. No be today. And it is not because of this issue.

Moreover, this issue is not about NYSC but about whether you need to participate in NYSC to be eligible to contest/hold a pubic office.

The provision is that you need proof of NYSC to get employed. But any lawyer can make a case against NYSC participation to get contest for public office.

There is no bending the law here, use your fu...cking head!
The law is clear, the constitution is clear.
You don't even need a lawyer to interprete some things if you have basic education and a good grasp of English.
uncle is there man in question your father? Or you're one of them beneficiary. Because that is what our Political godfathers has reduce us to.

Because the part that caught my attention in your comment was the part that says "use your fu king head" as the Learned person you are. Because the last time I checked, there's no such thing as fucking head in the basic English.

Seriously, you guys should give your bitterness a break.

Buhari graduated from what is now the NDA. At the very least he has a qualification equivalent to a BSc.

Also, service in the Army excludes you from needing to go for NYSC...besides, Bubu had been in the Army for 12 years when NYSC was set up.

And check out most of our governors...99% of them have their BSc. Even Gandollars has PhD ....from University of Ibadan self! smiley..Is educaiton a scam.

If you want to be President...stop grumbling. Go into politcs...and run for office. Don't be lazy. The Buhari you are mocking spent 10 years running for President. And it is not as if even the Northern elites liked him either.
Very well said Bro.
