Naptu2, thanks for this beautiful thread. Tina Onwudiwe was really a musical icon. I loved her music.

Am still trying to remember songs by Mustapha Amego. Is he late too? Was he the one that sang " molue -Lagos City transport "?

"Molue, Lagos City Transport" was by Too Low For Zero. I think that was in 1987.

Mustapha Amego was the host of Kessingsheen Hit Show/Sunday Rendezvous. His catch phrase was "Hit me". He later became the president of PMAN and when some people complained that he wasn't a musician, he released a song.

The song was a reggae song (like Molue, Lagos City Transport), but I can't remember its name.

Mustapha Amego died in the US in the 2000s, but I can't remember what killed him.

The name is "Evil Passion" Her Igbo spiced with Americana english is something else.

I remember when she warned Ijekpoms sternly in that movie.

I remember her driving into the house with that first generation pathfinder (Nissan) SUV

Even in the early 90s her sense of style was ahead. I guess she has oyinbo blood.

Damn, the grave has swallowed beautiful people o.

Tats:
Some of her "Black on Black" lyrics sang in 1991 are still very true today. How sad.

"How many years that Africa has been free,
take a look around you and see,
Brothers killing brothers,
Children fighting wars,
starvation and poverty are still knocking at our doors,........"
Hmmn Deep!
Thanks bro

Yeah, he sang a song about Lagos (in 1990), but I don't remember how it goes. He died of cancer in the US in 2013.

Ok, let's switch over to Charly Boy.

This is the first song by Charly Boy that I ever heard. I heard it for the first time in 1986. I had a friend that absolutely loved this song. She sang it everyday and it was burned into my brain.

Charly Boy - Nwata Miss (1985).

This is probably Charly Boy's biggest hit ever.

Unfortunately the only video of this song that I found on YouTube has been geo-blocked.

However, I found a site where you can download the instrumental version of the song and this is a link to the site.

Charly Boy - Big Bottom (1988).

In the 1980s there were a lot of slogans in Nigeria about a magical year called 1990. The government promised "Shelter for all by 1990", "Food for all by 1990" and General Babangida said that he would hand over to a democratically elected civilian government in 1990. None of these promises came true. In 1988 Charly Boy sang this afro-beat song in response to these promises. He sang about how the government was out to trick Nigerians and how politicians were preparing to line their pockets.

I could have sworn that I heard Charly Boy's version of this song sometime between 1986 and 1989, but the Internet is telling me that it was released in 1990.

This song was originally done by the Funkees in the 1970s and it's no surprise that Charly Boy covered it (it's a Charly Boy kind of song).

I'm probably wrong, but I'm pretty sure there are two versions of Nwata Miss.

Actually, Mustapha released music long before he became PMAN'S president, he debuted the album on the Kessingsheen Hit Show, and it was pretty good

All I know about him is that he was one of the "Nigerian Tourists".

He worked in the Railway Corporation and played for the Railway team (they were one of the best teams back then) and his performance with the Railway team led to his invitation to the National Team.

He was a defender in the Nigerian National Team that toured the UK in 1949. They famously played with barefeet. I remember that he appeared on quite a few sports shows in the 1990s in which he talked about their tour of the UK.
