IamHeWrites:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in the September 22, 2018, gubernatorial election in Osun, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday declared he would become the governor of the state by next week Friday.

He expressed optimism that the Supreme Court judgment slated for July 5 in the appeal filed against the Court of Appeal ruling that declared incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola would be in his (Adeleke) favour.

The apex court had fixed July 5 for judgement on the petition Adeleke filed against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, Oyetola, who was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the conduct of the rerun poll.

Adeleke, who spoke at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo tasked members of the party to remain calm and prayerful ahead of the July 5 judgment so that they can get a favourable verdict.

Exuding confidence on the expected judgment while receiving the Osun West Action Democratic Party (ADP)’s Senatorial Candidate for 2019 elections, Dr. Dotun Babayemi and his supporters into PDP at the party’s secretariat, Adeleke, who was represented by the chairman of the party in Osun, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, the state party chairman assured that the state would witness a new dawn of development when he assumes office.

Receiving the decampees, the PDP South West zonal chairman, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, lauded both new and old members of the party for their commitment and just as he vowed to give necessary support towards ensuring unity among them.

Responding, Dr. Dotun Babayemi, said he and his supporters decided to join the PDP because of their belief in the party and prayed for Adeleke’s victory in his case before the Supreme Court.

He stated, “we pray for PDP’s victory in the matter before to the Supreme Court. We believe in the party and we shall join forces to reposition it.”

Nigerian political space is a vast looting machine cloaked in the form of an array of political parties such as APC, PDP, AC, LP, ADC, etc. Onstensibly, there is no difference between either the political parties or the individual politicians who control the parties to get a share of the oil rent that accrues to the government. In fact it can be argued authoritatively that what these groups of individuals have in common is the total plunder of the rentier economy which Nigeria is.

The hope that Nigerians often express when a potentially plunderer politician is coming to power is forlorn and it is sometimes derived from our passive inertia to organize and enthrone a more progressive government. We will continue to chase shadows until we become more reasonable.

Osun governorship hopeful, Senator Ademola Adeleke has denied news reports that h e boasted about the outcome of the Supreme Court judgement. The reports had suggested that Adeleke boasted that he would be defeat incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola at the apex court. Adeleke described the report as the misrepresentation as the handiwork of All Progressives Congress (APC) agents. In a statement issued on his behalf by the south- west leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and signed by zonal publicity secretary, Ayo Fadaka, Adeleke said his message to party faithfuls delivered by the Osun state chairman of the party, Hon Soji Adagunodo only expressed his confidence in the capability of the Supreme Court to ensure that justice is done in the matter. READ ALSO: Judge who ordered arrest of Diezani dies The statement read: “Our governorship hopeful asked the people not to be scared of rumours making the rounds that a particular national leader of APC and two other governors of the party are pilling undue pressure on the court. “He affirmed absolute respect, trust and confidence in the integrity of the court as the last hope of the common man to set standard and adjudicate fairly on issues. “Nowhere did our governor in waiting boasted of any fore- knowledge or preempt the decision of our lord justices. We are aware that media agents of APC have twisted his statements for a failed sinister motive. We condemn such misrepresentation as ungentlemanly and unacceptable. “Senator Adeleke who is currently in the United States for medicals only called for prayers for a favourable verdict of the Supreme Court through the state chairman of the party. We thus issue this statement to correct the impression that Senator Adeleke is privy to any development.”
