Accommodation and feeding are not the problem since my uncle stays in California. All i need is just a list of universities that are within California and are cheap and also willing to accept international student . I'm applying for an undergraduate program.... Thanks |

Reads more like you want to meet up with your uncle than attend school. @ the bolded, what did your google search result show? Keep discarding great advice like your previous comment and watch yourself frequently donate 60k+ to the US embassy. Undergrad? How old are you, have you taken SAT and $10k? MOwasola58: |

MOwasola58:If you want The lowest fees for colleges in California are mostly state universities I think and then you’ll need to be qualified to pay “in state tuition which is around 6-7k”. |

FOR THE ONES WHO GOT DENIED It's a beautiful Sunday, the start of a brand new week and the last day in June 2019. We had lots of visa approvals this month and reasons to be grateful. Sadly, we equally had denials and now I am concerned about the latter. So this one's for all who got denied recently, contemplating and probably getting ready to refire, this one's for all the ones wondering why the VO didn't give them a chance to speak, to explain, this one's for all who forgot a particular document and got sent away, this one's for the ones who froze at the sight of the VO, became blank and couldn't utter meaningful sentences, this one's for all those wondering if they can make it in the next attempt, this one's for all those who have cried their eyes out and no longer have tears to shed, for the ones who have screamed so hard and have lost their voices, this one's for the ones who have been snatched by the piercing claws of depression, who have been pulled into the darkness and their lungs gasping for air that isn't forthcoming, this one's for all those wondering what exactly went wrong, this one's for the ones questioning God and wondering why He let this happen, I mean where is God when bad things like visa denials happen! Breathe. Please, just breathe for me. I see you, I hear you and I can't imagine what you have been through especially because you have poured yourself into the entire process, but I do know these: The fire of rejection wasn't lit to burn you, it was meant to purify and fortify you, to get rid of parts you thought you needed but never really did, to increase your hunger for greatness, to push you to do better and BE better, to question your intentions, how badly do you want this? Why do you want this? I strongly believe that in life there are a lot of doors that are shut to us, and if we truly want in, we have to be consistently brave enough to keep knocking and be sure we are knocking the right way, the right time and on the right doors. If you truly want this, if you are genuine, if you are truly worthy, if you believe you deserve this visa, then you really are and you really do . You will not go down without a fight, the entire universe is waiting for the manifestation of your gifts, waiting to see you rise from the ashes and give the loudest roar. This is your moment, take it. The glory of the latter shall be greater than the former. May the force be with you! |

MOwasola58:1. Most US schools will accept a letter from a foreign undergraduate college stating that you were taught in English. It is usually either that or TOEFL. However, I am not certain what the rule is for Secondary Schools/High Schools. So when you decide on a school, check. However, if you have the money, just take the test. You can never go wrong with one. 2. Is the budget to cover just tuition or are you including living expenses? If it's just tuition for a year, then you will definitely need an assistantship or a hefty scholarship. If you mean tuition and living expenses to be within $10k, then that figure is hilarious. California is pretty expensive and even for the cheaper states, $10k 'everything' won't fly. 3. Have you taken the SAT? You should take it and ace it first. That could open some 'funding' doors. 4. You mentioned your uncle lives in California so accomodation and feeding are a done deal. You sound like you intend to live in his house and commute to school everyday. In that case, you are either grossly misinformed or uninformed. California is half the size of Nigeria. How do you know whether your uncle will live close enough to the school you will eventually pick? Maybe that's the solution for you. Maybe ask his address, then look for schools within a feasible mile radius. Maybe that should be your priority, then you find out which of them is the "cheapest". 5. By the way, "Cheap" is subjective. Can you quantify cheap? Please don't repeat $10k. As an international student, your fees per year are usually over $40k without assistantship. Go ahead, google the annual cost of an engineering program in California. Whoever sold you that $10k dream should be brought in for questioning. What you can do is, check your uncle's area (remember, a mile radius that is feasible) for California State Universities. They are usually less pricey but I am not certain by how much. Start from there. And please, stay away from Community Colleges. Some people successfully obtain visas with them but the chances of you donating several +N60k to the US embassy are much higher with community colleges, and none of them would be cheerful giving I daresay. 6. I am yet to see a US school that does not accept international students, so long as you meet their requirements, academic and pecuniary. |

dwilliams707:The VO does not care what you wear for the interview, so long as it's decent since its a formal environment. What is under scrutiny is your travel intentions, not your predilection for European or African attire. In as much as there is a measure of subjectivity in visa approvals, it doesn't spill into whether the person loves your ankara or hates your etibo. Just dress in whatever makes you comfortable. Its a formal environment, look smart and composed. That's all. In my time, I wore a trouser, a shirt (No, I did not tuck in the shirt) and a pair of ordinary shoes. But the clothes were clean and ironed, and I polished the shoes. I had a file containing my documents and I was composed. In my time, there was a man dressed in suit. He was denied. A family before me was dressed in native -- dad, mom and little daughter. They were denied after a really pleasant conversation with the VO, punctuated with several shared laughters (which was kind of jarring for me to witness, especially as I was the next in line after them). Some adult Boy Scouts members (or something like that) were there in the full paramilitary uniform of whatever it was they represented. About six of them. 2 were denied and the rest granted (they went one by one). Bottomline: it is not by the "kind" of clothes. Also, I would advise against using cologne spray on your clothes because while you think your clothes smell nice, the VO could be allergic to, or put off by the fragrance. If that happens, that would make him/her impatient with you, subconsciously, and the chances of you getting a favorable hearing becomes slimmer. You do not want to risk that. |

Rosetinah:It seems the VO had already made up her mind to deny you even before the interview. 3 years of work, a decent salary without u presenting your Personal SOA is subject to different interpretions. It could mean, "I have been working at this job, I haven't saved much from it after 3 years, so let me elope to US. After all, my monthly stipend will be way higher than my current salary." In another post, u had said your job is your hometie. but a job that u were not able to produce your personal SOA can be viewed as a dispensable job. And this can be seen as a lack of home tie. I am not judging. I know exactly how quickly salary can disappear. If u have some money in the bank, try to get a personal SOA in addition to your Uncle's SOA, perhaps it might help. I also think on this thread, we should play down this idea of funding being equal to automatic Visa, the walls have ears. When d VO asked why this school, the first thing u mentioned was the money/GA. The problem with such line of reply is that u are telling d VO that if not for the money, u wouldn't have done your MSc. Nothing wrong with that except that u r putting it in their face. Funding should be the icing on d cake n should not replace great replies. Care to share d amount on your uncle's SOA? |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Predstan: 8:18pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
AgreatMan:But the VO didn’t request for SOA according to her transcript Maybe on her Application with Uncle being the one paying for the Trip though |
