A Nigerian man Festus Emeka, took it upon himself as he cleans a gutter that has been uncleaned for 7 years in 4 hours. Gistvic Reports.

Festus said the gutter was filled with human faeces and plastic waste as he was determined to clean up the gutter.

He wrote:

"After battling with myself, I went to a mall, bought cleaning tools and went to work on the gutter. It was filled with human faeces and plastic waste.
I thought it was going to be a small task. But when I started, I discovered how tough it was. But no retreat no surrender.
Some curious youths asked me which government or NGO I came from. I said none. Surprised, they offered to assist. I bought more tools and hired someone to evacuate the waste.
6 of this bag was filled with plastic waste from soda, water etc evacuated from just 60 meters gutter. Government should do something about waste disposal.
After 4 hours, the gutter was cleaned and blockages removed. The water drained in about 30 minutes
Please, caution anyone disposing empty plastic into the gutter. It is dangerous to our environment and aquatic life.
In all, I spent enough energy and about N10k to get the waste evacuated into a lawma truck. Some touts said I am vying for political post and was using the gutter to attract support. I am not contesting for anything. This is my little contribution to govt and environment.

Actually the opposite should be adopted.
Let the government tax them for every bottle and sachet produced.
Then the tax collected shall be used to clean it up.
