cosef:Haaa, did I said otherwise So wen is prof agbonlahor coming to teach me med student a medical clinical approach as regards laboratory practice between me and my patient for proper care??Prof agbo has equipment as a full based lab man, I expect him to have a full equipment, so in case of ELISA which is uncommon in institutions and some teaching hospital, people make use of it for their research, thus , base on u now, he has more clinical knowledge than my physician.. Na true ![]() |

danilmo:Your unnecessary hatred for other healthcare professionals would not let you reason properly now until you foolishly support privatization of hospitals in this country. That is when you'll realize that this is Nigeria! Imagine a scenario where a whole hospital has only a qualified physician (mostly likely a general practitioner) in it's employ with many other healthcare professionals so as to save cost. That is what would start happening in the event that hospitals are privatized in this country! In fact, many of you would have to go abroad for your residency training because no private manager would be willing to commit money into your training! |

Jman06:Leave the guy i just don't want to reply him. When he hears people calling for privatization even someone in 4th yr would be shouting privatization like he knows the effect. |

danilmo:First off, which is not actually a big deal anyways, learn to address people by their proper title.it doesn't strip you off your manhood ![]() Bro if they should privatize the health sector,i am sure that doctors can never be Health Minister or whatever name they would comeup with.Except they are qualified which would not be because they have MBBS..Every professional would head their juniors.Nobody will head the other with impunity. Tell me the input of a Pathologist in normal laboratory practice. Of course you will give the excuse of they can run some advance test bla bla bla. Oh you think because you did/still doing pathology that is where it ends ![]() Don't let your Superiors decieve you. Keep shouting privatization. |

It has been proven that med students not even qualified doctors rant more on thread like this, I can bet the dude ranting above is one. That was how one was saying AA and AA couple can give birth to AS becuase he read some bullshit online, only a simple question if he can interpret HB result when brought out of electrophoresis and he went into oblivion. They think Medlab is radiography where they have boxed the radiographers to running scans and not been able to give out result without a radiologist. A medical lab scientist will always head his dept and sign his results. |

danilmo:If you like see white and call it black like the typical Nigerian sociopath, that is your cup of tea. Call them lab man o, lab woman o, lab coat man o, they remain astute Scientists and Laboratorians according to the Nigerian constitution in tandem with global best practice. Continue with your malaria and typhoid practice. Dokita malaria na u sabi. In fact na you Biko! ![]() |

Jman06:This one dont even know what's residency,.. One hospital with a general practional, please wallow in ur ignorance. I doubt ure even in health system.. We've not started privatization UV stated failing common knowledge of medical practice.. Shebi it is general practitional that ll interpret ECG and d clinical use, treat Cancer patient, manage Surgical cases, bogus of internal medicine and co.. Why am I wasting time with this one self , u talk like an Aboki shoe maker walahi, u think say na ur village health center bah..leave ur village and come to city u no go gree ![]() But of a true las las, u aren't in health related dept. Leave we medic and coworker to fight our battle |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 10:36am On Jul 02, 2019 |
cosef:You said doctors do only malaria & typhoid tests, well, that's fine. You also think you can run all the tests in the lab because u are a scientist right? well that's still okay too, but I can tell you that if a patient present to ur lab with few vague symptoms which may not be diagnostic of any illness, u will be surprise, u won't be able to run any test to get a diagnosis. That's where that malaria man is ahead because he knows the right test to request for. |

Freddonance:Actually it is the Scientists that educate physicians on the value and interpretation of most high complexity tests. I'm not talking about MP and Widal that you get any road side person to run in your dirty side labs without Quality control. Go and read the D.CLS curriculum of the United States. I'm talking about investigations like Alpha feto protein, cortisol assay, CEA assay, CKMB markers, Troponin Assays, Allergy panels, Australia antigen, Transferrin assay, apolipoproteins, Bence-jones etc. Many Nigerian physicians don't know the validity of these investigations, it sounds like rocket science to some of them when you are not talking about malaria and typhoid test. There are more than 18,000 tests and investigations and the Medical Scientists are the professionals who are grounded and specialized in them. Take that to the bank. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by cosef: 10:57am On Jul 02, 2019 |
danilmo:If in your own 'social medicine', the Scientists are placed down the totem pole. A Scientist won't be the head of World health organization as we speak. Today's Scientists are not push overs, they know their value and affirm it rightfully. ![]() |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 12:30pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
cosef:For typing those, I no longer take you serious. So u will advice a doctor on allergic panel, CEA assay, Alpha fetoproteins when the doctor himself knows what the result will be(base on his clinical acumen)like before the result comes out? So looking for Bence Jones protein in urine is a difficult stuff? I didn't see any histopathologic investigation there why? Why not also tell me u advice pathologist onFNAC & it interpretation? That u also stage malignancies? As a scientist, how many doctors have u advised on special investigations that he has no idea of? & pls could u name those investigations? |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by cosef: 1:42pm On Jul 02, 2019*. Modified: 6:28pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
Freddonance:If every physician knows what the every result will be qualitatively and quantitatively without proper investigations, then you can as well close down your side lab and consult only the 'Oracle' in your brain since laboratories are not important, you can as well write to the American Medical association and American Society for Clinical Laboratry Science (ASCLS) and ask them to shut down every lab and stop research on new test methodologies. I doubt you already a physician, maybe still a student still being brainwashed in Nigerian class rooms by failed physicians who ran away from consulting rooms into the academia. I strongly suspect. There is no test that a Medical Scientist can not run in his field of expertise and specialty, from molecular to even forensics. They are boss when it comes to laboratory investigations, they spend their whole training on it from undergraduate to professional to post-graduate levels. In your quest to downplay the importance of Scientist you keep committing intellectual gaffes. I'm sure you were not taught that laboratory tests are not just for diagnosis, but also for monitoring, evaluation and even epidemiological studies. Every test has it merits. Maybe when you graduate you'll settle paternity disputes by just looking at faces of the Alleged fathers, then look up the sky and then give a verdict about who the real father of the neonate is. Ofcourse you are a 'clinical magician'. |

cosef:I will be as civil as possible not to insult you. However, I put it to u that you know just too little of what you talk about. Don't boast yet, just learn by observation; you have a great deal to learn that way. Now, back to the matter. if ur submission is true, pathologists would have been redundant worldwide but u know what? laboratory medicine belongs to the pathologists & that won't change no matter ur sentiments. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 2:33pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
Jman06:I pray they give medical laboratory science a faculty in the university, then in the same vain, Create another faculty for pathology (say faculty of pathology).... I think that will solve all these nonsense between lab scientists & pathologists. pls say Amen to that |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by cosef: 2:50pm On Jul 02, 2019*. Modified: 8:58am On Jul 03, 2019 |
Freddonance:Actually your physician pathologists who are trying to head the labs are the most redundant and laziest group of physicians in Nigeria. It's common knowledge. Even other physicians in other specialties like Surgery, O and G, mock them with it. Most of them rush down to the lab to do nothing but gossip that's why they find enough time antagonize the Scientists. Take an unbiased survey. You are most likely an undergrad, and you are talking to a post-baccalaureate specialist in the field of mycoplasmology with his PhD in very close view, so I am qualified to give you the lecture you so crave for. You sit and learn. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 3:13pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
cosef:You have all those degrees yet you are unable to differentiate between an undergraduate & a doctor?... you see the difference between both of us now? like I did say, u still have a lot to learn |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by cosef: 4:17pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
Freddonance:A real physician doesn't downplay the importance of investigations just because he is not grounded in them. That your submission and comment raised a red flag about your qualifications. Even Jman detected it a long time ago. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 4:23pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
cosef:Which investigation did I downplay? That you look for Bench Jones protein in urine? So if the result turns out to positive does it rule out the fact that the physician suspected multiple myeloma before requesting for such investigation? Or u think specimens are sent to the lab without knowledge of the pathology for which the investigation is requested? Pls answer those |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by cosef: 5:13pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
Freddonance:Investigations are run in the laboratory with provisional diagnosis. Just like prescription notes are given before drugs are dispensed. Nobody is a magician. The key word here is 'suspected' but suspicion is not definitive, that's why you consult the laboratory. Just as the police will say 'everybody is a suspect' but investigations must be done before you can definitively confirm that the person is a criminal. It's common sense. |

| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 5:37pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
cosef:point of correction, a physician consults his colleagues(who are pathologists) in the lab not a scientist. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by cosef: 5:39pm On Jul 02, 2019*. Modified: 6:29pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
Freddonance:Whichever way you look at it, the Scientist who runs the test and writes his report is the one being consulted, your bitter politics nothwithstanding. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 5:45pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
In case you do not know the role of a pathologist... a pathologist tight up a lab result with the clinical presentation of patient & makes a diagnosis. Diagnosis goes beyond carrying out lab procedures most of which can be done by any one who understands written English( that is if the procedural manual is written in English). Diagnosis involves history taking & physical examination(these form about 80% of the diagnostic process) & the lab investigation if need be cos most diagnosis are clinical( meaning u don't need a lab test to tell u ). The reason you won't understand this is because u are confined to the lab. you do not know what happens in the clinic, wards etc. sometimes we send consults to haematologist to review our patients this is because they are well equipped with the clinical knowledge to care for them. We can't send consult to med lab scientists as they will kill our patients or complicate the condition |

danilmo:A neonate in the medical field who can't even string two proper sentences together will 'tame' a Professor of Molecular diagnostics and a Fellow of Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS) UK in his field? Laughable! Even your lecturers wouldn't dare. Go to Uniben and ask your Chiefs. Seems Nigerian medical schools also double as a place for training circus clowns. ![]() |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Au79(m): 6:33pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
cosef:am highly disappointed with this comment of yours..I was hoping to hear very 'complex' tests that you claim u perform in the lab only for you to be saying AFP, transferin assays, cardiac troponin, creatinin kinase.... let's be serious do you know the indications for this test you just mentioned? what test would you carry out when a toddler comes with retinoblastoma? or even stomach pain? u think its just by doin the tests? more than 80% of the tests you do in the lab are been done by machines ranging from e/u/cr , and so on...something that a lab technician can do when trained: press dis red button button and press that green one after 5 minute..the professionalism comes in interpreting the results in carrying out operations like stem cell transplant and bone marrow replacement which is done by pathologist do u know dat most of the times before most lab results comes out doctors av started treatment already which in most times patients get well? sir do we have labs in the rural areas, don't patients get cured there without ur lab result? laboratory is just for confirmation, more dan 90% of diagnosis can b obtained from a good history and thorough clinical examination.. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 6:43pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
Au79:Thank you brother. Cardiac troponin is now a complex test to perform according to a lab scientist |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by cosef: 6:57pm On Jul 02, 2019*. Modified: 9:05pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
Au79:Your submission have been rehashed and debunked severally, a few keystrokes during research in the search box for previous similar threads will clear your doubt. If Medical laboratory Science is as irrelevant as you always struggle to paint it, it won't be on Critical skill list of Advanced countries like Canada, Ireland, Aussie etc. Those test panels are comparatively more complex than the malaria and typhoid you are used to in your fake side labs, that's why you don't run them in your and hardly even request them. Most physicians know less than 5% of over 18000 available test panels and investigations, especially for Non-communicable diseases (NCDs). That's an irrefutable fact. |
| Re: Health Workers Plan Showdown With FG Over Ministerial Slots by Freddonance(m): 7:30pm On Jul 02, 2019 |
cosef:you know over 18000 lab tests yet you can't run any for the benefit of the patient except a doctor who do not know about such test request for it. are you really thinking? |
