How To Play Guitar Part 7 USING A TUNER 1. Set the tuner to E. While it is ringing, pick (pluck) the 1st string on the guitar. Make sure the string is open (you are not pressing it down on to the frets). Either a need or a series of lights will spring into life on the tuner. 2. The aim is to tune the string so that the needle on the tuner is vertical, or the middle(usually green) light comes on. Adjust the machine head until the needle point to the 'in tune' mark or the green light only is illuminated. 1 Like
