Firstly, comparing pigs to cows is an erroneous comparison. Cows are eating by virtually everybody in the country. I do not know any tribe that doesn't eat beef. Rather, all other meat sources only supplement beef.

Secondly, it's a simple issue. Fulanis should take their cattle to the north and let's see who will lose more. Youruba man that can't even manage a dozen goats, how will he get meat for his wedding, naming and other ceremonies.

Thirdly, cattle is reared and grazed but pigs are confined. Until pigs are reared like cattle, there's no need for a 'puga' scheme.

Fourthly, ruga created to solve a societal nuisance. Meaning that it was born out of necessity. Farmers and cattle owners are struggling for scare resources - green pasture and land - but this isn't the case with piggery.

In summary, we should all try to be objective and realistic. A good and peaceful Nigeria will benefit us all. Let's not join hands with trouble makers and agents of anarchy.

I rest my case.

The basic problem is that Nigerians don't want to talk to Nigerians round a table. The owners of Nigeria don't want to negotiate because they don't want to give anything in exchange for what they want. They consider themselves as having much more to lose.... but all relatiinships that exist to mutually benefit the parties are established and maintained by constant negotiation.

Everyday we negotiate. Husbands negotiate with their wives constantly to maintain peace, service providers negotiate with clients to establish values, manufacturers negotiate with customers to guarantee prosperity. Any relationship that is not maintained by constant communication is bound to deteriorate into angst, division, suspicion and at the extreme, viokence. It is a lack of negotiating skills that kill most marraiges today and is threatening the marraige of the different cultures and religions and creeds that form the nation Nigeria.

The process of negotiation that creates justice and equity, that establishes universal values which will enable institutions to work and the nation to prosper is called restructuring.

All nations have to constantly have a debate, formal or informal. People should demand from the other and be willing to give up for the other. I am watching Sky News right now. Brexit has been on the British agenda for the past 3 years. Back and forth debates are raging. At the end no one will get everything they want and no one will lose everything they own but because they continue to talk, no one is killing or getting killed. Where you have hardlined positions like in HongKong, violence is bound to happen.

Why can't Nigerians sit down and negotiate they want we want to live in this country and the way we want to relate to one another. Why does one party need the superiority of the government to impose its desires on the rest of Nigeria. How long do they think that position will stand.

If the herdsmen were wise they will sit down with their host communities and states and WORK THINGS OUT. If International Oil Companies were wise they would sit down with their host communities and WORK THINGS OUT. If militants and host communities and farmers and on and on were wise they will appreciate and exploit the values these so called foreign invaders bring.

We need to sit down and restructure this country or there will be nothing left in the future.

MediaGuru36:

A group, the Nigeria Association of Yoruba Pig Farmers’ (NAYPF), has written President Muhammadu Buhari demanding the establishment of “pig colony” in Northern parts of the country, Igbere TV reports.

This comes on the heels of federal government's move to establish RUGA cattle colony for Fulani herdsmen across the country.

Although the presidency has since suspended the programme following public outcry, insinuations are, however, rife that the project may soon be reintroduced in another form.

In a statement issued to Igbere TV by NAYPF’s National President, Rev Bunmi Thomas, he said the plan is aimed at expanding the pork business and growing the economy.

According to him, the initiative, once implemented, will help to “strengthen the unity and economy base of Nigeria”, thereby leading to more employment opportunities.

The NAYPF boss hinted that a team of experts have been contracted from China to help establish a Pork Oil Factory in Abuja, for global exports from Nigeria to other countries.

Full Statement,

I hope they will push for this, including weaponising the media for their "Pig Colony" project.
It is important other Nigerians show these Fulani herdsmen terrorists that madness is not owned by one ethnic group.

make sure you research well before you write an epistle that is biased.

So cattles can't be reared in confined areas? So in order to stop the consistent religious clashes in the north should the government now call for christian colonies all over the country? In order to stop the clashes between the haves not and haves , should the government form colonies for the poor or those who have been stealing things they dont have or want because of the incessant clashes and loss of lives?

Are cows the only source of meat? Google cow and google zebu

You spoke well

But cattle rearing is a personal business

Asking for people's lands for personal business is a no no for me... The herders can go anywhere in the country buy land like the rest of us and do their business...

On the brighter side... Most northern governors have shown willingness to donate lands for the herders.. They have huge landmass as well

I think case is closed

The size of the cattle market doesnt necessarily trivialze the PUGA initiative (if u were to apply the RUGA rationale). Cattle is not important to the extent of warranting undue land grabbing and murder of crop farmers.

In case u didnt know crop farming is the more profitable resource wise. When looking at land/water use efficiency, protein production crop farming produces 1.5 trillion more pounds of products(includes protein) with 115 million acress less land...

Those helpless farmers that are being killed without redress are actually more important. And if u analyze properly the pork collective is actually more organized and connected to the economy. Nomadic herdsmen who rarely use the services of the modern economy and leave very light traces, commercially, on their communities are less important than globally active agro business people who have transactions on an international scale and invest billions in the economy(eg the pig farmers)

Where are the billion naira cattle processing plants ? You cant graze on crops that are more profitable and important than your cattle and still expect to get land for free. Whatbare the plans for regenerating the crops and grass when the cows are done feeding ?? Do you think RUGA is really a solution? Buy the land plant it and graze on it sounds like a better solution. Stop twisting the laws of the market economy to favor some ethnic bias..

There are ranches in cross river that produce milk yogurt and package beef with higher meat content.
Do they ask for free land ? Pls stop trying to drag the economy back to medieval times. Resource use should be geared toward efficiency not noisy actions.

What is important is for any guilty herders to be arrested and brought to justice. Every life matters. And we cant have ppl die without consequences. We r embedding the same anarchy you're referencing by toeing that line.

I'm sure if it's the period they still live in peace with their host that the FG bring out this initiative, many Nigerians won't complain

the truth is no one can trust Fulani to move around them with their cows not to talk of giving them land for one rubbish Ruga

just call it herders attacking farmers because farmers have never taken their crops to the herders. its the herders that take their cows to the farmers . herders are the aggressors and they are also the ones seeking compensation. what an irony
