in naija it is 7-8. u can actually report the block industry to urban Dev people or environmental people for public disturbance. I have done that before, i reported a poultry for it's fvcking smell and it worked, they had to move away. they have a right to make a living but they don't have the right infringe on other people's right to sound health, while doing it. They should move to an industrial cluster or zone, i have also seen a case where a filling station was closed down and removed when the area people complained of living in fear of the station going up in flames.

I suggest you use the money you have to change your windows to a sound proof one. If you don't have enough money for changing all, you can decide to change your room windows which is probably 2 windows or 3 at most.


Use of sound proof windows will enable you sleep well each time you feel the noise is becoming much. Just enter into your room and close the windows. That way, you won't hear the tiniest of their mechanical sounds and you'll sleep in peace.

I hope I made a reasonable point here anyway.

Here in Cyprus all their windows are sound proof and air tight windows if you shut it no matter the noise you will only hear less sounds

Write a petition to the Commissioner for Environment of your state on the issue, send copies of the letter to LASEMA(if you reside in Lagos), Ministry of Environment, House Committee on Environmental affairs of your state's House of Assembly through the office of the HoA clerk, and the DPO of any nearby police station.

Alternatively, you can get a lawyer,go to state high court and procure an order for suspension of all activities of the block industry pending hearing of the case(based on breach of environmental laws) and a sub-poena inviting the owner to court.

Be firm in your approach. The environment ministry will send a task force and they will be issued a desist letter. Subsequent violation will lead to prosection in court. I successfully got a letter against my neighbor.

Extant laws state that noise must not exceed 85db in a public place and pollution by noxious fumes is not allowed.

Ignore the comments of the juvenile uncivilized users here who do not appreciate what noise pollution is about. Wole Soyinka recently lamented that we are raising a generation of ignoramuses in Nigeria.

By asking the owner How much he makes on daily basis and be paying the money to his account. Nonsense

The only option you have in this is to buy their land and become the landlord. Simple

Click on "Contact us"

Click on "Report a Problem"

Fill in the forms including your details and address of the offender.

Click "Send"

Alternatively send a detailed email to info@lasepa.gov.ng

I once reported a woman with noisy generator beside my house. And they visited her after some weeks. They made their enquiries around and found she was truly a noise polluter. She was invited to their office and served a warning. In the end she thought her neigbours were jealous of her.
Also someone reported the mosque i prayed in backed then and they locked the mosque for about three days till the sound system was withdrawn and indoor speaker installed.

I only reacted to the reason why he want it out of there....he claimed he doesn't sleep in the afternoon ....I was just wondering when sleep has now become 3 times day....if you start digging that matter , a lot of things will be dugged out.

You can actually stop them if that business was not approved.

You can report to MoE if you're in Lagos. This matter can be redressed either through arbitration or a tort action in court. Talk to a laywer.
