Re: South East (SE) had the lowest IGR in 2018 It appears that the IQ of the average Nigerian is very low. Hence, I read of and see scorn for the SE by others for having the lowest IGR in 2018 But a deeper look would have shown that things are not as straightforward as they seem. IGR is a function of taxing paying. And it is human beings that pay tax. Now, here are the simple issues that should be of concern: 1. Does the SE have low IGR historically? In essence, has there been a trend in the past years that warrants this becoming a sustained fact? If yes, is that linked to population change trend in the zone? 2. What is the population of SE? 3. What is the population of other zones with higher IGR than SE? 4. When the IGR of SE is divided by the population of SE, you get an idea of average IGR per person. How does it compare to that of other zones? 5. If SE has the lowest population and correspondingly lowest IGR why should there be any surprise? 6. How many people of SE origin live in other zones and how much do they contribute to the IGR of those zones? 7. Can you live in Jamaica on a permanent basis and still contribute to the IGR of Cameroon? Evidently, the average Nigerian, especially those on Nairaland, has little ability to reason deeply. No intelligent argument or thought process for the most part. Shame!!!! PS: most importantly when the Feds have established the habit of taking every development to other zones and none to the SE, how are you supposed to create the pool of taxing payers in the SE zone? Most Igbos are self-surviving individuals and it is human nature that self-surviving individuals will not readily give their money to the govt as taxes. Again, don't forget, SE has only 5 States; others have 6 and even 7. IGR is directly linked to population. You cannot levy on one person two person's taxes - it's always one man one tax. Therefore, SE will always be lower in IGR, given its lower population. Hey! Don't forget that SE is not the parasite in chief in Nigeria. They receive the lowest monthly allocation from the federal government based on lowest population. In life you cannot eat your cake and have it. You cannot give SE lowest allocation based on population and expect higher IGR based on same population. Does it make any sense to you all with low IQ now? Who is deceiving who here? 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Adelaide2:thank you for raising some of these valid points. At least to disabuse simple minds b/c It's obvious to any objective mind that those pushing that narrative has alterior motives. But what's disheartening is how far govt agencies like NEITI is driving the narrative through mainstream media. For me it only lends credence to the popular belief that there's serious conspiracy in high places to undermine, surpress and subgugate the Igbos in Nigeria. It may also be the consequence of not having adequate representative at strategic positions in multi ethnic country like Nigeria filled with so much hate and bias. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Adelaide2:The issue here is completely an economic one. But rather than speaking to the point and suggest options that can help leadership of the States in South East to address it, you have gone tribal and defensive. The report was to agitate Governors in SE to sit up and reduce their continuous reliance on Abuja for monthly allocations for survival. The same holds for other regions. There are so much to do. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Had it been southeast has the highest IGR they will come here to abuse other region posting all the industries in their region to compare other region. when it does not favour Igbos they will still find way to justify their failure and still bash others. Igbo increase your IGR and stop shifting post. i have been to ABIA, what i saw there was different from what i am seeing here on NL. Ebonyi one of the poorest state in Nigeria. SW employed half of all Nigerians than any region in the country. Every tribe built mansion not only Igbo. The only tribe that makes it so big from Crime is Igbo. One kidnapper that was arrested some few months ago built many mansion across almost state. i am not saying all igbo man engaged in fake business but large numbers of their so called millionaire does. SW is my far better than SE. IGR or no IGR SW leads. 6 Likes 1 Share |

MetaPhysical:Most of you guys are really dumb, I keep educating you empty skulls, IGR doesn't measure economy, Ebonyi was once third in IGR, after Lagos and Rivers in 2011,Enugu was third after Lagos and Rivers 2013, then Southeast were not making noise, ever since Ogun IGR came up, propaganda tribe started disturbing our Peace, when Ebonyi and Enugu were high those it make them bigger economy Most states in west that always claim high IGR depends on loan to function, they borrow to fund projects, pay salary and what have you, few days ago Oyo state governor said his state is technically bankrupt, Ogun governor borrowed to pay salary, same states were bailed out during recession, so what the fuss with high IGR, when the states in your region that claimed high IGR, are most indebted and can't function without loan or bailout 6 Likes 1 Share

tartar9: Lol Mumu! Every region is a parasite to Nigeria. What is the monthly allocation to states in Nigeria? SE get's the lowest monthly allocation consistently over the last decades, which means it is actually the less parasitic region to Nigeria. North West and South West get the highest. They are therefore, the true parasites. 6 Likes 1 Share |

ayomikuolatunji: did the South West indeed employ half of Nigerians , still cant believe some things i read in Nairaland. when Oil Companies sited thier Headquaters in Lagos after the civil war , was it Souht west that employed Oil Executives , when Banks cited their Headquaters in Lagos because of CBN was it South West that employed the Bankers, When Nigeria with its lopsided Federal policies built only one Deep Sea Port in Lagos and every importer had to import via Lagos Port was it South West that employed the Importers and their Agents ? 5 Likes |

I read the silly comments about SE's IGR with amusement; Nigerians are on average too unintelligent to evaluate factors that have an impact on IGR or to evaluate anything at all. In the absence of data relating to political and economic factors, demographics etc for each region and assuming a uniform distribution of tax eligible jobs and businesses, doing the basic math based on population would reveal that SE generated the 3rd highest revenue per person after SS and SW or 2nd highest after SS if Lagos was excluded from the SW's computation. NC Population - 20,368,918, IGR - 378.7b Per person - 18,592.95 NE Population - 18,984,299 IGR - 351b Per person - 18,515.30 NW Population - 35,915,467 IGR - 546.5 Per person - 15,216.29 SE Population - 16,395,555 IGR - 340.1b Per person - 20,743. 43 SS Population - 20,320,869 IGR - 1102b Per person - 54,229.86 SW Population - 27,722,432 IGR - 877.8b Per person - 31,663. 89 Population (excluding Lagos) - 18,608,827 IGR (excluding Lagos) - 376.6b Per person - 20,237.71 Clearly the SE isn't the least productive region. 5 Likes |
