Almost every Nigerian has encountered such people in the past..

So why bringing it online....for people to praise you or what..

As for the OP that posted this and the mode that brought it to front page I'm waiting for you both to come down
U miss the point. It is his own story that is so touching and I'm sure many people can relate - reminds them of their own days of struggle. This OP has been there! That's 4 sure.

Eeyah, I remember one fateful evening I was strolling back home from work and a man came begging, his children have not eaten since two days, his job they've not paid him. And he feels so ashamed going back home with nothing and please even if I have rice or garri at home, he will take and that's all he needs.
I sighed, I shake my head. I said look I'm coming back from work, that's my house over there . I don't have cash on me but I'm about going to the ATM to withdraw. Come back to the gate of that house in the next 30mins, I will give u something . He said OK, with sad face. I was like eeyah. I got home, changed and head to the bank.
I came back fee minutes past the 30mins. I stood at my gate waiting for the guy.
Then from afar I saw him with nylon bags and yams. With huge smiles on his face greeting almost everyone on the street.

So I waved at him and he came, was smiling. I was like wow! Who gave u all these? He was laughing.. He pointed at one grocery shop, he said the madam and she gave him all these, two paint of rice, 1 paint of garri, semovita, two yams, beans, and tin Tomatoes..i was like wow! God will bless her o.
So I think he begged everyone on the street, so they were happy when she gave him. All those things.
I then said OK Thank God. This is my. Own share, take this 2k, I know it's not much but use am buy soup ingredients. He was almost crying with joy. Then he left, with all his hands filled up. Mehn people are suffering.

Sighs
Wow!! That woman has a good heart. You have a good heart too. That is commendable!!!

This next level is a scam!!

Nice read but I must also pen down my horrible experience in trying to help the needy in the little way I can.
I took some of my used clothes, shoes and bags(still in very good condition I must say) to a certain Catholic church to be given to the poor and needy as one of their organization claim they do. On getting there, I met the someone who collected the Ghana-must -go bag. I noticed he seemed very offended while collecting it even after seeing the contents. I asked him if there was any problem and his response was "money no dey this your package? Them go wear cloth, them no go chop?"
Sometimes, after church I drop money in their collection box but that's besides the point, I think that was a very ungrateful person I met. I said nothing anyway, but I hope maybe my silence would let him know his utterances would not stop me from giving whenever I have, be it in cash or kind.

You are just a dimwit.

The guy noted at the end of his post that he is not trying to show off but pass his message.

Since you have a damaged conscience, I believe the only type of story that thrills you is how Davido brags about buying a private jet, when it offers no benefit to you and other private Nigerians.
You are a fool for questioning my stand..

Truy people are suffering. Some people only need like 10k to start a business and live better if u ask them. But at the same time, while giving one should be prayerful as you never can tell. It's a wicked world. Some would collect from u just to take to native doctors. Also some people are just scammers. They tell all sorts of lies to get from from u. Reason most of the time it's better to give to people who least expect from u n give to people who are sincere about their needs. God gives and so we should learn to give. When I see people suffering atimes I wish i could help all of them out of their situation. May God help us.
How can someone take the money you gave them to a Native doctor to do what exactly with it, I hear this from Nigerians a lot as an excuse why they don't give strangers money.

We know d days are evil but it should never deter us from helping d genuine beggars.

Myself is currently in dis mess & nobody wants to help cos of d reasons u wrote here. I wouldn't blame them becos many helpers have gotten their hands burnt physically & spiritually.

My story

I have come to realise dat a man's enemy shall be from his own household/family which may also include d evil covenant of our ancestors & dis is d battle many of us face including myself currently & still fighting to separate ME from d powers working in my family. Many of us are suffering d battle we know nothing about

So dear, whenever u feel convinced to help d true needy, please do even if na 10 bucks.

personally, nobody can hurt me for rendering help or giving them money. it will backfire. I am not ignorant of d tins of d spirit

To all those saying he is showing off his giving, think again. Stories like this encourage others to give and look for those in need around them to give to. I even tell people thank you when I am the one giving because it is a privilege to give. People should also make themselves approachable, some suicide was as a result of hunger and no one to ask or give. We have to have each others' back. Life is not easy for many.

I remember grin one evening at about 8pm, I came out of the house to charge my phone in the car, only to hear someone calling my name from the gate, he didn't knock. I walked to the gate and saw my last born's best friend's father standing at the gate, only God knows for how long he had being there. Started talking about no food to eat for a few days now, I asked him how much he needs, he said 5k and started talking about how he will pay back, I just told him to leave that Side and Gave him the money. That term I paid half of my son's best friend's school fees. Everytime I remember that day, I just thank my God I wasn't the one standing at someone's gate waiting for help.

What about some of us that helped and got burnt in the process, human beings are predictable, for me it's every man for himself.
Give to people what you can afford to lose. In so doing, you won't be disappointed at the outcome of your generosity for God loves a cheerful giver!

What you said is true. I advice people to give more offline ( on the streets) than online. There are beggers online( Nairaland, Facebook, Instagram etc) that have enough to start a small business, but they would rather come online to beg because they can hide their identity. Most online beggers are not hungry, you see someone saying he needs N2m for operation,do you think an hungry man will spent millions on operation that might not even succeed?
But on the streets, those guys are the real beggers, most people on the streets have no other option than to leave their house and go out to beg,if they want to see the next day because hunger has finished them.
I pray God will bless me more and give me wisdom on how to meet the needs of those who truly are in need.
