Administration of criminal justice is important, but not quite as important as addressing the underlying social imbalances at the root of these conflicts. In Nigeria, we've been throwing armed robbers, kidnappers, yahoo boys and girls, and even violent ethnic agitators in jail since time immemorial, but has this done anything to address the occurrences of such social vices? No. If anything, criminality has drastically increased across the country. What does this tell you about the effectiveness of resorting to criminal justice administration as the sole remedy for social vices? There is an underlying reason we have an increasing number of people resorting to violent means like armed robbery, kidnapping and armed conflicts in pursuit of their goals, and that reason is desperation. Our society isn't doing enough to provide legitimate means for the plurality of us to freely pursue our goals. As such, those on the margins of society who have got nothing to lose, resort to violence as a means to bring their marginalisations to the fore, whether by able-bodied youth resorting to armed robbery, or jobless youths resorting to cattle rustling, or herdsmen resorting to the use of violence on farmers. It is this social inequity that should be addressed before looking to the criminal justice system for help.

That's why I am calling for deescalation. So that we can figure out what everyone wants and needs on the negotiating table, then work out a plan that works for everyone, and where everyone benefits from. If after this, anybody resorts to violence, criminal justice can then be used as a tool to manage the insignificant minority to whom violence is an end unto itself.

You've obviously developed an uncanny ability to perceive and differentiate between real and artificial terrorism. Good for you! As for me, I'm not that perceptive. All I see are lots of people suffering, from north to South and from east to west. I'm asking you, myself and the larger society what can be done to reduce these sufferings. The solution seems obvious to me, and it doesn't involve the vilification of any particular ethnic group. I can elaborate more on my proposition if it interests you. I hope it does. If not, good luck with your categorisations of types of terrorism.

Bottom line is; if you want to fix your bush roaming people’s problem, why don’t you just set up ranches in your states in the North of Nigeria? Why are you hellbent on seizing southern lands that are already much smaller and denser? Why do you want to mix your poverty infested people and culture with people that you detest?

Everybody is my people. From the relentless bush roamers, to my awesomely industrious brothers and sisters from the east, to my accommodating siblings from the west, to my savvy northern comrades, to my resilient southern family. They are all beautiful, I love them all, and detest no one. On the other hand, your unfortunate choice of words clearly shows who it is that is doing the detesting.
That said, I find it rather interesting that you keep projecting your own characteristics on me. First, you called me arrogant, when your behaviour (not wanting to mix with me for nothing more than your assessment that we have different backgrounds) clearly shows you to be the arrogant one. Next, you accused me of detesting southerners when the sort of language you used to describe herders clearly shows you to be the one filled with hate and detestation. I wonder what else there is to you which you've projected on me. Poverty, perhaps? Not that poverty is a crime. You see, I'd gladly mix with you, irrespective of your financial status.
