I have 2001 model (automatic, 2.0 engine) that I have used for five years now.
infact i'm planning to sell it and buy a new model of the Sharan.

From my conversations with some people here in the forum and also from my personal experience, the Sharan is a reliable car. But loke someone said, avoid the vr6 version. Personally i have never attempted to buy it.

Alao note that the Ford Galaxy, seat alhambra share mostly same components.

Price wise, i discovered that the Sharan is more expensive than the two above mentioned cars.

It's a very nice car recommended for transport purposes. However you have to avoid VR6 variant. I'm interested in the manual gear with 1.8l or 2.0l engine for immediate purchase.
