The operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) has impounded 21 vehicles and arrested 9 drivers for driving against traffic on Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

The Chairman of the Taskforce and leader of the enforcement team, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi disclosed that there have been serious complaints from motorists and residents that activities of the one-way drivers were causing heavy traffic gridlock on daily basis along the axis.

According to the Chairman, “The 21 impounded vehicles and 9 arrested drivers ran into our enforcement team while we were returning from a clean-up exercise at Eric Moore and Orile-Iganmu along Lagos-Badagry Expressway”.

“Honestly speaking, it is painful that with the high level of enlightenment campaigns and several warnings by the government, motorists, including private car owners are still driving against the flow of traffic and thereby obstructing on-coming vehicles and causing gridlock along Iyana-Isolo”, he lamented.

CSP Egbeyemi, however, advised the 12 drivers, who left their cars and absconded in order to evade arrest, to report immediately to the Agency.

Meanwhile, those arrested have been arraigned before Magistrate (Mrs) Salau Omobola of the Lagos State Mobile Court for driving in the direction prohibited by law (one-way) punishable under Part (III) item 27 of the ‘Transport Sector’ of Lagos State 2018.

Even though this is an attempt to collect more bribe money I still applaud them. That road is notorious for one way drivers trying to avoid traffic. I almost had a head-on collision with a one way driver before and the guy showed no remorse.

Why won't they follow one way? Have they cleared the tankers and trailers that blocked the normal way? journey that suppose to take 10mins will be taking 4hours all because i want to be a gentleman and follow normal way that is blocked with trailers. Thank God dem no catch me, i always follow that one way with no remorse.

They have refused to arrest the trailer drivers who are responsible for the drivers passing one way

Everything and body in Lagos need mental check up or down.

That Apapa Oshodi express way is haven for one-way drivers.
The situation is however made worse by trailer drivers ladened with containers heading the ports and who park their trucks on the express thereby making blocking access to mile2/Apapa..
Those drivers arrested@ Isolo axis are impatient as there ain't much traffic and trailer congestion there and besides,they could easily have taken the overhead roundabout to connect to the right way of traffic without risking arrest.

One would understand if it were from Cele down to mile2 not as though it's an excuse to drive against traffic.
The government has been vehement against it and the law must be obeyed

If it is the same apapa-oshodi expressway I just came from, then the govt need to arrest 100% of danfo plying that road. They all drive against traffic and the gridlock from apapa port is not helping issue.

Some Nigerians who live around there should be taking photo registration and be sending it everywhere. 5 people hour a day or has Nairaland not got responsible people in Iyanapaja. Inflate the price and bill Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Task Force)! After we all yell at the Governor, I'm sure he will pay up. And when people know somebody watching them you'd be surprised they start to behave.

so bad I was among them. the main road was blocked and traffic was terrible. that's why some drivers decided to pass on way. we trek DAT day sha.
