. The fact that an AFRICAN of all people would try to insult a developed country-ANY developed country-is crazy to me. You’re not decent enough to try to improve Nigeria. Like a selfish coward you run to suck from another country’s teat.

there is something wrong and condescending about this comment
you have zero idea of the dynamics in Africa and why a good number of African countries remain underdeveloped (not all)

If you did you will not talk this way.

I do have an idea. It’s because of idiots like the one spewing his anti-America nonsense. Too many fools who are all talk no action.

Excuse me! angry America has so many problems that are inexistent even in some parts of Africa. What have you done yourself to improve your bedroom, not to talk of America? Just look, even this week local news in New York City, touted as the 'safest big city' in the US. This isn't even anything close to places like Detroit, MI.

America doesn’t need its billionaires to do anything for its people. We have opportunity and means to do for ourselves. However, our wealthy people do spend millions putting people through school, building homes, schools, etc. Many even help out the continent of Africa (ex: Bill Gates & Oprah). What does Africa’s billionaires do except live large while everyone else lives in squalor?

I am just reading this thread and laughing. The America you guys are hyping grin my goodness!
The same America I went to? Having lived in one of the best country in Europe, I went with the mindset that America will be far more developed, better living conditions and ofcourse best infrastructure existing in the world, in short I had very high hopes. Right from the JFK the Air train I entered good Lord, the trains were nothing to write about I was so scared as the train was moving like we were going to crash or something. It was a scary experience. Even the interior was no where near the well cushioned comfortable seats I was used to The most shocking thing was that the second train, I got into the driver was using Megaphone, sticking her head out and yelling out stops shocked Then I looked at the people inside the train I couldn't believe it, I saw real poverty before me. There was a white woman begging for money for food for her to eat. I couldn't take it anymore. I took a Taxi for my remaining trip.
Traveling through cities in America, when you get to the train station eg in a city like Bronx there was no elevator, no underground lift?!the train stations looked unkempt, some of them outrightly stank. It a good thing I went with my friend, he had the same shocking experience as I did. I saw some pot holled roads. I tried the buses gosh, there were torn seats inside and ofcourse incomparable to the clean well maintained Mercedes Benz buses I was spoilt with. In short the infrastructure in America needs urgent attention Every shop I entered there were security, in the malls a lot of security. Something I hardly ever saw where I live in Europe. Then I saw plenty of street hawkers, some American citizens themselves and some who came for the so called American dream, I saw women cutting pawpaw, tieing it inside nylon small small chei. Every single time I moved in the train there was no rest, people begging for a dime, putting there fingers to your face begging. The high rate of poverty and lack I saw I never ever imagined it.
In Search of African food I had to travel to Newark. The place the rickety bus dropped me I will never forget. The were street hood thugs everywhere. The ones you see in Tupac and gangster music videos and they look cool. Na! They looked terrible and scary. Able bodied young black men causing havoc.Area boys in Lagos are far better than the ones I saw. When I told my friend my experience she said she never ever passes that place that it dangerous. Okay is it food? The food is not controlled, anybody can bring anything out to sell . There was a Nigerian woman shop I went to there was roaches and insects inside the packages she sold.

I was told that half of those black Americans are in jail. There is a lot of illiteracy in America. That is why one should appreciate free world class education from any Western nation that offers it!
Yes Americans live in big houses, we in Europe live in our smaller houses but is the house fully yours? Are the big cars fully yours? Some of you hype this America like other people have not visited. Maybe to someone straight from Nigeria it will be heaven but for those of us living in other great Western nations, I tell you America overhyped!.the infrastructure I saw in Dubai is even far better.
Granted Americans have more cash after tax but we pay more tax that's why it seems your American aunty has more money to dash than your aunty living in the UK.
I was on a trip, we had a stop in a bus and in came a man with a lot of stench, his legs were very swollen and this looked like a sickness were he had no money to treat. There are countries like Canada Germany the UK and others were you have access to free healthcare. Americans are sick and open go fund me! Who does that in Europe? There were alot of other things I saw. Then I came to the conclusion: the only nation on earth without any problems, no racism, no poverty is Heaven. Every nation of the world has problems. Don't let statistics fool you.

upward mobility in France,?
except you are a sportsman
FORGET IT
My brother you know nothing of what you are talking about, I am living in France and I can tell you is one of the best countries in the world if not the best, France is a country you can attain your potentials in all fields, I have seen many industries and companies owned by native Africans, France has the best medical care and remains number one in the world for that aspect, maybe your partner wants something done for her or him without going to the normal route, you mentioned sport just because of pogba and the rest in the national team, I can tell you there many pogbas in banking, telecommunication, businesses etc here in France, what most Nigerians don't understand is the they think USA is a heaven but far from it, I can bet you if you live here for one month you will not want to go back to that lawless USA full of crazy people with guns, by the way how many people die every year in USA because of careles gun law?

at best you will live a mediocre life, a feel good life, a comfortable life

some people are fine with it

some are not

And remember
my question is....

How many?

As the OP of this thread.... the intention was to enlighten some people... not scare or discourage them from travelling to the US. Since page 2.... I've not commented... still trying to catch up on all these added pages. Decided to jump to the last page only to find this your deceitful comment. Didn't you read that I was writing from my NYC perspective?...didn't it occur to you that I may expose the lies you tell? Is it attention you seek?
You lived in a European country.... why not name it? You used Air Train from JFK...why?... because you arrived almost broke. You never got off and took a taxi because the train was disgusting... you got off when you got closest to your destination... then you took a taxi to your final destination... all to minimize costs. And what train was a megaphone used to announce stops?...when there is built in PA systems to announce stops throughout the trains? Upholstered seats are only in long haul buses and trains...not in high traffic subway cars....and for good reason. US cities like the Bronx?...is like someone bad mouthing Nigeria saying in cities e.g Surelere blah blah blah....as if Surulere is a city. Bronx is not a city. There are African restaurants in NYC... just not that many. So you went to Newark ...which is in New Jersey to eat African food?...more like you no longer could have afforded to stay in NYC and moved over to the 'slums'. I'm not going to go thru everything...but lastly... that photo is nowhere around WTC. For one...no trees in that area... the sidewalk is not constructed that way.... and lastly ..he has to have a license to sell and cannot have his merchandise out like that..... the amount of fines he would already received he would be much better off not selling.

But thanks for sharing..... thanks because no doubt... from your write up... you are an example.of the people who travel with hope... and when you arrive and reality hit... it is then your eyes clear. So are you trapped?...back in Nigeria?...or have returned to enjoy life in ehmmmm..... one of the best countries in Europe?

Europe is the place for them

that's just it

An enterprising person who wants swift upward mobility can not like Europe

more Europeans move to America than Americans to Europe

An online tourist. Just as I thought because it’s clear you don’t know what you’re talking about.

With everything you listed-whether it’s true or false—Americans still have a better quality of life than a Nigerian/African.

Most of us live in places that don’t have any of the issues you listed. In Nigeria the issues are unavoidable; you can’t escape them.

That’s why this forum is filled with threads on how to escape that place world leaders called a shithole and cemetery. You won’t find one website filled with Americans trying to lie, scam or get to Nigeria.

You’re going to act like people don’t kill each other? Kidnap? Sell, kill and destroy each other for money? Rituals?

Maybe if you guys built prisons and put the criminals away you’d have a more civilized society like the US.

Our schools? At least we have them. And they’re nice with the latest technology. The number of rundown buildings Nigerians call schools are embarrassing. IF they’re even in buildings. Most schools are outside. Then again with so many uneducated people you don’t really need nice school facilities. Millions of Nigeria’s young are not in school and many of its citizens are illiterate. How shameful that citizens are forced to pay school fees in a country that’s so poor. Shame.

Why do your wealthy send their children to schools abroad? Because Nigeria’s schools are so poor and ill-equipped to educate.

The reason ALL citizens rich and poor try to do as much as they can abroad is because of all the problems that exist there. So don’t try it.

You don’t see Americans going to your schools or trying to get to your country. Yet y’all sit in here bragging on the beauty of another man’s country-as if your people helped build it. Worse is that you have the audacity to try to insult a country that’s hosting many of your citizens because yours is a mess.

So what really happened? Were you deported from the US or not issued a visa?

An online tourist. Just as I thought because it’s clear you don’t know what you’re talking about.

With everything you listed-whether it’s true or false—Americans still have a better quality of life than a Nigerian/African.

Most of us live in places that don’t have any of the issues you listed. In Nigeria the issues are unavoidable; you can’t escape them.

That’s why this forum is filled with threads on how to escape that place world leaders called a shithole and cemetery. You won’t find one website filled with Americans trying to lie, scam or get to Nigeria.

Pic: my Senegalese brother who came to chase the American dream, he sells shirts on the roadside for a living this is 3 minutes walk to the world trade center in New York

1/2 of black Americans are in jail? So you were told. grin I’d think a world traveler in search of a place to call home would be smarter.

The reality is that 80% of black Americans are middle class and higher socioeconomically.

Was it your poor brother struggling on the streets of America who told you this?

Are you seriously basing your knowledge of America on NY? Americans will tell you that is one unique city. I’ve always said it’s so different that it’s like being in a different country. Most Americans wouldn’t live in that city if they were paid to. A lot won’t even go there to visit.

Sure America has its bad places. You can’t force people to make wise personal choices. Some will be poor, live poorly and screw up their neighborhoods. However there are many, many places you can live where you never come into contact with what you described. Most of us never do. It says a lot that it’s all you encountered when you traveled here.

Loooooool this is so funny. Especially coming from someone who went to visit and never returned. Atleast I went on vacation travelled through some cities in 4 states and returned in two weeks as stated on my visa application before my visa was issued. I never ever discouraged anyone from traveling because I travel too, however that America I saw myself is far overrated whether you admit it or not. You open a thread discouraging people from coming to stay with the same visit visa you travelled with and stayed back ILLEGALLY. Such hypocrisy! I am not rich but I thank God for the grace to work, save, qualify for visas and I can comfortably choose to afford a vacation, buy my flight ticket, afford to shop wherever I want and afford to return. You said I went to a slum to eat. Good you admit that there are indeed slums in almighty America.
You better watch out for ICE cos they coming for you. The akata marriage you are arranging won't work this time.

grin cheesy grin cheesy US civilized? Where else in the world would a 7 year old child sit on the front porch of her house or in the park and get ridden by several bullets? Yes, Murica. 'Online tourist'? cheesy I told you to spare these 'wonderful America' stories for those who haven't lived there. By the way, you have no idea where I live or am at currently. FYI , I have schooled lived and worked in some major cities in the world that includes Madrid, London, Hong Kong and yes, NYC. You don't have to believe me but I know the US and you are rather the ignorant and less travelled one if not you would not call the USA civilized if you have experienced living and working in other cities in the West as a minority and black person

The US is obsessed with race and I mean everyone is identified through racial lenses. Other reasonable parts of the world, you may just be a foreigner and newcomer but in the US, you immediately become 'black' and have to identify with everything that comes with it. Has it stopped or reduced in 2019? No! Would it, with Donald Trump? cheesy grin

You don't live in such places where drive-by happens, fine but do the people in all the recurrent massacres also live in the ghettos? or the school children who get caught in some psycho's rampage episodes. Don't the cops repeated use extreme measures for black people unnecessarily? Is racial discrimination a thing of the past in the US?

My comments never compared Nigeria to the US. Save yourself the stress. Nigeria is a shithole, unless/until you're rich. I only made analogies which you seem not to understand. Here it is again, from the outside Nigeria looks great to foreigners who have never lived in it, not visited because of the great music and popular movies and people. But make no mistake about it, living in Ghana, Rwanda, CIV, Botswana, Kenya ... are waaay better and offer much better quality of life than everyday living in Nigeria for regular people, which most people whose income bracket is less than $500,000 pa are.

By the way, Americans would get taxed by the IRS even as dual citizens coupled with 'work comes before personal life' culture with few days off, and crippling debt, are the reasons they do not go to other countries. How about you read about the experiences of Americans who left the US and moved to Europe and see if majority would ever want to go back to the land of home edition assault rifles and Donald Trump.

I have to include a rejoinder here, so it won't be like I'm just hating because I'm not. I only retort at the ignorance, which is understandable, of many here hailing the US as the 'pinnacle of civilization' and 'greatest country in the world' which makes me laugh in Japanese.
The US is great and has great education and anything on earth any other nation in the West offers sometimes even better and it is indeed the most powerful nation in the world by miles as their defence budget of over $7trillion p.a collapses that of the next country Russia, but here them talk about public healthcare, they say they don't want to fund lazy people but their taxes go into needless wars and destabilising regions around the globe while their people go homeless, starve and rot in prison without education and the casualties are the minority some of whom are here cheering them on cheesy

Never in my life was I afraid to walk around at night in public places in all my sojourn abroad like I was in the US. You just might end up in Compton looking for public transportation. Or the number of extremely poor and homeless people in a country that gives so much foreign aid. One shooting incident was enough for me and my foreign äss. Watching local news, which the US is great at, is enough to see the real happenings in the city. Just visiting, getting an education, the US is beautiful and nice. Living and raising a family? cheesy grin cheesy I'll pass over and over again, Thank you.

About being denied visa to the US grin, not everyone from Africa and Nigeria is an economic migrant you ignorämus. I no longer live in Nigeria but aren't you ashamed it is only against Nigeria you seem to flex your US muscles of civilization against? Nonsense and ingredient angry

I’m laughing my ass off! Paternity Court?! Lol!

Did you know there are white people who go in and out of American jails? And Hispanics? And AFRICANS Then again Africans fill up prisons all over the world-especially Nigerians.

But guess what?

80% of black Americans are STILL middle class class and higher socioeconomically. Interesting you know about Paternity Court, jails and homelessness but didn’t know that. How are Nigerians doing in your country?

Again, it says a lot that poor cities are the only place you can afford to travel, but that makes sense. Africans who come to this country end up in those places because you come here with nothing. So you likely stayed in slums because that’s where your friends and family are. Still, the places you named make up less than 1% of American.

I know poor places and homeless people exist. I’ve seen it when I’ve gone to NY & DC. DC shocked me the first time I saw it. I’m American born and raised as well as my ancestors going back to the slave ship. But I was in HS before I saw something like that during a school trip to DC. I was shocked!

Most Americans don’t encounter what you’ve described. I’m sure you saw more poverty, ghetto and homeless during your 2 weeks in America than I’ve seen in my whole life.

And as a black American I have yet to go to Newark. I’ve heard and seen how bad it is so I’ve never gotten close. I’ve had no reason to. But I’ve traveled all over NJ without seeing ghetto. Newark, again, is about 1% of the state.

Again, there are many, many Americans who’ve never been there and never will. (Unlike NY & DC with its tourist attractions).

Let’s not act like all (black) Americans are crammed into filthy poverty like in Nigeria.

The ignorance and misinformation in your drivel (along with the length) is so ridiculous I could only skim.

Anyone who tries to tell another person what her experience is based on his own projection is not worth a lot of effort. As a black American I’ve never felt my race was an anchor around my neck but I’ll let you insist on telling me about the black experience in the US based on your online blog/news surfing.

And how dare you act like race and blackness create violence in America when Africans are killing, abusing and mistreating each other on the continent?! Is race a factor there as well? When Nigerians are attacked in South Africa and Ghana?

And Nigeria is not the only country I can flex on. As an American I don’t have to flex or try to convince anyone of anything. (We ALL know who’s the best. That’s why you go so hard to try to convince people to not think it’s so great.)But that doesn’t mean I’ll let you bash MY country when it’s better than wherever you may be from. It says a lot that you’ve had to live all over the world (if what you say is true). What’s wrong? Your country so bleeped and its appeal so lacking that you must hop the globe like a homeless person looking for a place to allow you to stay?

Wherever you’re from, your country is just as bleeped as you are.

Who gets mad at a COUNTRY? A country that’s not even your own?

NY is expensive but people of ALL socioeconomic levels live there.

A lot of people who could afford to live there more easily than many there live elsewhere.

The city life is not for everyone.

But I’m not shocked by such an unintelligent assumption.

You can live in suburbs, a rural area, on the east coast, west coast, south, close to family, far from family, in a quieter pace, a place with less traffic, etc

But your theory is that people want to live in NY but do not only because they can’t afford to?!

The stupidity.

Lol!

This is not Nigeria where the young and old hawk on the street.

NY is just a different kind of place. But if someone is selling something illegal or without a license, they will be arrested.

Another thing, for those going to America, don't be surprised when you know more about America, need I say the world?, than the people you meet there cheesy

AkataWoman: Most Americans don’t encounter what you’ve described. I’m sure you saw more poverty, ghetto and homeless during your 2 weeks in America than I’ve seen in my whole life.

You do know there are many people like this, even in Nigeria?? "I haven't seen or experienced it, therefore, it doesn't exist in my little America" grin cheesy

Take a tour round your country before you venture into the world. It's obvious you haven't lived outside the US, and even in the US you are in your own bubble.

Most americans can't afford to live in NYC, fact! whether they want to live there or not is secondary. Isn't it the same country where a lot of people would struggle with $1000 emergency? or stats change because you haven't experienced. I never experienced Boko Haram or sold gala on the streets of Lagos, like all the nigerians here commenting.

Nobody is asking you to bash your country. It's only natural to defend your ego it but objectively having lived and worked in places including the US, The US is overrated and the media actually deceives people about the reality

Come back when you've actually lived outside of America, not just visiting. And for the final time, this isn't US vs Nigeria or Africa, even your president called them shitholes. Do something like US vs the G7 countries (experience them) and come back before I reply you again.
