OlujobaSamuel:

It is not even NUC because they lack power to accredit a sch in a foreign land, it is the business of Ministry of education and Ministry of labour to determine a qualification that is good for our economy.
Nuc or NYSC can't blacklist the academic qualification of a foreign sch.
The question is "are these schools accredited by the ministry of edu in Benin to issue the certificate?" If yes, then our ministry of edu And labour should review their process to check if it conforms with our standards, if it doesn't, they blacklist such sch or country as the case may be.
Can NUC accredit Harvard, MIT, FLSU, etc. We too love show of force for this our country

Most of the schools in Benin have their accreditation withdrawn. So certificates from such schools are useless! Don't know why students still waste their time and money attending such schools

This is totally uncalled for! How could they reach such conclusion 'bout everyone studying over there, they could have devise a means of identifying genuine student na or beta still request students data 4rm institution they claim they went to... I presently had a friend studying over there, i jes hope she won't meet such fate when she finally graduated, perhaps a proper resolution would been made by then... Nigeria nawa oo.

That was how a close frnd of mine attended sch in Benin. I got admission into a fed uni in 2013. I had this frnd of mine who dropped out of uniabuja due to accreditation issues, I don't know how true because lies never cease to proceed from his mouth. From 2013 I loss contact with him and we did not communicate for like 3 yrs, not until 2016 when I was in my yr 3 jeje someone message me on WhatsApp. I saw his profile picture with nysc clothes, I could not recognized the person and I ask who is he, he now reveal himself as my old frnd. I was shocked, someone that I left at home is serving before me
When I rounded up my program in 2018 I pay him a visit and our long discussion he told me that he was studying computer sci at university of abuja but he withdrew from the department because accreditation issues from NUC, this before I knew him, he said he now went and collect his transcript and went to Benin to complete the course, starting from yr 2. I don't know how true is this because the guy can lie for Africa. I just got mobilized for NYSC this yr and the guy was done with service in 2017. When I visited him last yr, he was still dependent on his brother, squatting with people and without any job
Those schools are not helping a lot, they tend to add to the problems of unemployment. I know many of then that finish from all these container schools in Benin, Ghana, Togo that are still jobless, and still depending on parents. They are not enterprise, no street smart, neither do they have survival instinct, that's why when the graduated, they are hopeless and jobless and then result to crime like drugs, armrobbery and prostitution. When I was in my fed uni, I hustle and did business both on and off campus, and I was certain that when I will be graduating life will not be hard for me because I have face it squarely, it took me 4 yes to get to fed uni, when all my sec sch mate were going through short cut to container school. I can beat my chest that non of them can talk nor stand where I am cos whr my left foot have gone, their two legs have not step there

NYSC Discriminates Benin Trained Graduates & Refuses To Issue Their Certificates

After one year of rigorous service, my sister a 2018 batch B, Stream 2 Corp member was not issued her certificate because she schooled in Benin Republic.

This is so sad

Why the discrimination ?

And please what is the solution to help her get her certificate. She has been crying since yesterday.

NYSC is claiming that they got information that students from Benin Republic universities did not pass through the four walls of universities and all bought their degrees. I doubt this is true, but then, how can they (NYSC) judge thousands of students who schooled in Benin Republic because of the misdeeds of a few bad eggs.

I know nothing about the buying and selling of degree certificates in Benin Republic, but what I am very sure about is that my sister went to school and have studied seriously from year 1 to her final year, with me remitting her school fees, not even to her but directly to the bank account of her institution.

Why is NYSC now causing her pains by withholding her certificate and that of thousand other foreign students after waisting one year of National service. This is not fair! Please give us advice and help us create awareness.

Please what is the name of the University?

This is so true & Kudos to NYSC. I know up to 5 persons in one Government office that bought B.Sc. from one of those Universities in Benin Republic.

The way they brag about how they can't waste time for some paper they can get without passing through the actual University system.

These people received B.Sc. in two years visiting Benin Republic only 4 times spending 7days @ each visit. Yet the programme was a full time

If they can't produce an international passport with residence permit thst proves they lived in Benin during those period they claim to be schooling...NUC says its rubbish

Oga, tell me the name of the school u are talking about in Benin Republic n I will prove to u beyond reasonable doubt that it's a container uni n nysc knows what they are doing. don't see it as witch hunt or anything cos we Nigerians have seen enough not to talk about the number of petitions nysc would have received over d years

Yea, I know there are lots of mushroom schools over there, seen some of their products, however, their status should be determined by the responsible office, not just anyone using arbitrary power.
The NYSC process seems to be affecting the legitimate ones already, whereas, the ministry won't blacklist a sch or nation without proper investigation. NYSC is doing let's scatter everything and start picking the good ones after 1yr.
When I served, on my ppa posting letter, it was written that the PPA has no power to conduct any form of interview for corps members posted to it.(the state coordinator while explaining that part said since the sch is accredited by the ministry of education under relevant agency or foreign body as the case may be, it is not NYSC business to approve such candidate competency but to mobilize for service to the nation)
IMO, they should write to ministry to give them list of schools or qualifications issued that is unworthy of working in Nigeria.
NB: I am not in anyway defending those useless papers called certificate, they should never be found close to NYSC camps sef as most are gonna serve in a sch teaching the future rubbish.

you guys are funny lots sha....how can nuc accredit a school in another country , if they feel they are buying certificate there let them liaise with Benin to know if the school is accredited and contact the school to know if the student used the required amount of time in that school.

Suppose I present a certificate from Elson Morali University of Technology, Benin Republic(It costs less than a $100 to make one).
Why should NYSC issue me a certificate if they found out that the university is fake?

From the original post, I gather that it isn't about fake university or fake certificate, it is about he perception that universities in Benin Republic give away their certificates to undeserving students cheaply. That's not for the NYSC to determine otherwise they'd have to have a board that looks into the eligibility of every foreign university to issue certificates.

Second, why wait until the lady had wasted a year of her life on a pointless exercise before rejecting her? Wasting tax payers money to pay out allowances to corp members who will eventually not get a certificate.

Third, what happened to putting out a bulletin that Nigeriams shouldn't study in any university in Benin Republic if they wanted to be called up for national service?

Fourth, why issue these people call up letter when you know that their certificates were bought?

Fifth, whenever there's going to be an Elson Morali University of Technology, it will NOT be fake. It'll be among the top 5 universities in the world. tongue

Well, those few steps they missed has caused someone one year of her life and what if she had died while in active service?

Like I said, time is money. Someone should pay for wasting these people's time. NYSC should pay through their nose for their stupidity. There's no excuse for sloppy behaviour. We want Nigeria to be like the USA but we condone acts like this from government parastatals.
