Well it depends if the student in question is a serious student.
For those unserious ones that rarely attend classes, i would gladly gv them an F

I won't do that for an objective paper but if it includes a theory, I will definitely look for what to upgrade or better still, review his/her continuous assessment to make sure he crosses.
Even if he/she scores 37 or 38,I will still review. No one is perfect biko

I will add one so that the student will favour my child in his/her future - this is the line of thought in the older generation of 60s-80s.

i am a trained teacher and i have taught over a decade. i have never give 39 or 69. i always make it the next grade. meanwhile i scored some 69 while i was in the university.

Op, it depends on the lecturer or the institution concerned. That was the reason i actually stoped writing the chartered institute of stockbrokers examinations. My dear, i was in my final stage in 2012. Their pass mark is 50%. My dear in that year i wrote two papers. When the results were realised i scored 49% in the two subjects that i wrote. Instead of the institute adding just 1 mark to my scores, they instead failed me and asked me to re-write the exam. Since then i got offended and stopped writing

I remember back then in ss2, my math teacher did this to me. They liked fixing extra Saturday classes for a fee then. At some point i lost interest cos it didn't matter to me, so I stayed outside d class & had fun with other guys.
The teacher sighted me within the school compound & was very angry...
Exam came, despite my performance, this guy scored me 39.
It was later on I realized that he did that to punish me

I'd rather give 65 or 66 instead of 69. It doesn't change the grade or GPA. But if I feel it's necessary to add to 39, I'd just add 2 marks across board. In fact I had a lecturer who usually did this back then in uni. So a student who had 40 or 41(E) in any of his courses was always grateful cos he knows that he naturally failed.

When one think of the way one goes to school, one will not want to add. The students of nowadays are very lazy and disrespectful. Some do not even know what brought them to school.
But i discovered something. Let God fight for you and leave them alone. If i am the one, i will add.

Truth is after collating your scores and it sums up to 49 or 69 as the case may be, I leave it like that.
Heck I even turn a blind eye to 49.5 and 69.5 respectively. Reasons being that for EACH tests or quiz I give to my students, there is a guaranteed 5 marks just for participating and in the exams I give them up 10 marks, depending on the intellectual capacity of the student in question. If at the end of the day, I gave you up to 20 awuf marks and you still landed at those scores being discussed, I am going to leave it at that.
That’s what I do.
