The sad thing is her parents will end up giving her out in marriage in few years instead of encouraging her.

I wish her governor or lawmaker representing her could put her on scholarship in a boarding school.

No biggie in 2km. Just issue of safety these days. 5km one way, 10km round trip was just normal for many those days. It builds fitness even.

So, what are we supposed to do with this news?

As a six year old in primary one, I was walking more than 4km to school and another 4km back home. That's a total of 8km every blessed day.

When I got to secondary school, my dad got me a bicycle and every day, I would drive a total of 16km to and from my secondary school.

I disagree, the problem of this country is the politicians of this country. I keep wondering how they say a village is too remote for social amenities to reach them but during election ballot boxes are taken there no matter how remote the village is.
This is how all the village people in nigeria are suffering. So don't blame any one but the greedy politicians,people from villages are suffering already dont add to their pain.

It's determination when a girl child walk these lonely route daily despite the insecurity and how the girl child education in the north is given little or no attention.

I pity the little girl. I see people comments saying their parents once did like that, I beg which one of us pray for our children to go through same suffering we went or going through, still yet you wish another man's child suffering. The fact that she is another man's child doesn't mean you should talk like shit. The heart of an average Nigerian is blacker than charcoal. These are same set of people who will go to churches and mosques to pray as if the heaven will fall. I beg stop saying the 2km journey is small or nothing except if you wish same for your children and other generations that will come out from you. And point of correction when the white men said education is expensive, they never meant it this way. If the whites were saying let my child or another man suffer the way I suffer so that he will know what I went through, their level of development will still be dragging just same way ours is. So my fellow Nigerians, wish your fellow Nigerians well so that they can be opportuned to take up your own research from where you stopped and make it bigger.

@ topic.... I was watching a documentary on why Kenyans dominate the marathons.... even though foreigners troop in to their camps for extensive training ... but are never successful. They say it takes like 10 years ... foreigners arrive at age 16.... Kenyan children been trekking serious distances to and from school daily. By the time they enter the camp at age 16... they already got 10 years under the belt.
Maybe instead of bicycle.... this girl should continue her trekking ...maybe our greatest athlete in the making. They should try her out in athletics... see what raw talent she has in long distance races.Just saying.

For 6 fuckiing year's I trekked for 45 minutes to get to school..
My Dad was adamant that since he couldn't afford sending me to a private school, he would make sure I go to the best public school in our town.
And I'm grateful for it.
