Er... from Wiki: (especially of a country) almost or entirely surrounded by land; having no coastline or seaport.

Landlocked countries may have a river that they can use (usually through another country).
Technically, you can't go from sea to SE without going through the Niger via SS.
Same thing if Kogi wanted to be a country or region... the landlocked definition would still apply even though it touches the two main rivers.

TundeBricklayer:

East is not landlocked

It is, unless you're imagining that Rivers and Akwa Ibom are part of SE, or that having a river means you're not landlocked. You typically need a coastline or seaport to be considered non-landlocked, according to the definition.

Read the meaning of Landlock

A landlocked state or landlocked country is a sovereign state entirely enclosed by land, or whose only coastlines lie on closed seas.

Interpret that yourself and see where you got it wrong. Sea and River are NOT the same thing. Thanks.

Onitsha River Port “an untapped gold mine” – FG

NNEWI—THE Federal Government has described the Onitsha River Port as an untapped gold mine and a sub sector all efforts should be geared towards revitalizing to make it functional. It also said that the port is unique and exceptional from others in the country because of its three levels that goods can be brought in, namely: lower, middle and top levels which also makes it a great and wonderful port. This was disclosed by the Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Sen Olorunimbe Mamora, during his maiden visit to Onitsha Area office of NIWA. …Sea port Mamora who was accompanied to Onitsha by some senior officials of NIWA from Lokoja, Kogi State, during the visit also described the transportation aspect of the NIWA operations as humongous in terms of gains accrueable from its operation. Decades of comatose He regretted that Onitsha River Port has been in existence since the administration of former President Shehu Shagari, yet it is not operational. “Onitsha River Port was refurbished in 2012 but since that time till now, nothing has happened in terms of full utilisation and that is not good news for us as a country, but the good news there is that the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is trying to rectify, amend and do things differently within the ambit of the change mantra of this administration. “I’m aware that many of the bulk of the cargoes that come into Lagos port leave Lagos for Onitsha,” he said. am sure less than 20 per cent of cargoes stay in Lagos the remaining come to Onitsha through the roads and it is aburden to the roads. “The Federal government is working assiduously to take off the burden off the roadside we can have them go through the waterways, and it is as slow ensuring the navigability of the waterways, the s as getting and the security of the waterways because those who want their goods shipped from Lagos to Onitsha port want them safe and not subjected to piracy and pilfering.

can a vessel large enough like 4 storey building berth in those places you mentioned.. the east is considered a landlocked region because they have no access to the sea..a river can only take barges and not ships or vessels..
also if the river is dredged Right.. but will the adjoining States allow you access to pass through there territory even if you dredged you domain... the Suez canal was dredged to allow vessels to pass through Egypt from the Mediterranean sea to middle East and its the only access road from there to there coastal line except they wanna go through Africa.. nothing is impossible but you will have to be permitted to carry out that. .most ships will not wanna pass through a river course like the Niger because its only one way in and no other way out. so it's not secure...

Most of you are ignorant about East, south-east is not landlocked

Check below pictures, that's Onitsha port you can see tugboat and container barge used by JB, I took those pictures myself, I'm more informed how they brought those containers via warri port by barges down to Onitsha, go and read the meaning of Landlock to understand better.

If he can also be detribalized enough to build a railway from Lagos to onisha or Lagos to pH to onisha, I will rally the Igbos to apologize to him for not voting him! I don't care if he didn't give the Igbo's appointment!!

By the way Obasonjo is the biggest fool and a scammer to have played politics with this bridge!!

Yes PMB should be commending for continuing the project as planned. What I'm against is people is rubbing it on GEJ's face is that he did nothing for the southeast. GEJ actually ensured financial arrangement were adequately taken care so as not to be termed 'abandoned projects'

the area where the river niger empties into the ocean belongs to the warri people it does not belong to the igbo people. if u want access to the sea it has to be with the consent of the people at the who own the area where the river enters the ocean. this is a simple thing why is it difficult for u to understand undecided

The construction of the Ist Niger bridge started in 1964 and was completed in 1965.it was commissioned for use in december by the prime minister Tawafa Belewa....Now, that was when Nigeria was working,When the leaders had the people at heart

The Nigeria of today is playing politics with this One,No knows when it will be completed...this project commenced since 2015..four years down the line they are still showing us ground level pictures

I miss Nigeria of the Old.

Then naira had more value than dollars
The population growth was not as it is today
The demand for other infrastructure like roads in different part of the country, railway, bridges, electricity was not as high as it it today
Nigerian civil service was not as overcrowded as it is today
We didn't have so many political post that drains our resources then as it is today
We were not fighting insurgents and kidnapping and other societal ills as we have today, which takes up a hugh chunk of our resources.
We did not have PDP
