The sales girl is trying to play you...I have been using use an oukitel k3 ordered from abroad since last August..just check the specs of the phone and you'll see you can't buy such specs at the price I got it then ( ₦54k) at a relatively low price in any Nigerian shop..no single problem till date with the phone and as for parts, AliExpress has all parts and I can also order..

Here is what I was told today at a phone vendor's place. As I inquired of a particular Nokia make, that hasn't been lunched in Nigeria. Nokia X71 (8.1 plus). "It was obvious the phone can only be ordered online from overseas" I told the vendor. Then she repied as follows:

Phone brands "Nokia" ordered from overseas via Jumia is without warranty. Secondly, It is not a Nigeria specification. Hence, There might be a challenge if there are need for repair. As the exact parts may not be readily available at the Nigeria Nokia Care Centre. Except the person send it back to the country it was ordered from whenever there is a need for repair.
Is the above claims true?
I was almost paying for the one she offered as against my desired spec.

1. What are the differences between global version & the chanise version in phones?

2. Does version have anything to do with the phone's quality?

3. I noticed a wide price gap at a Nokia brand outlet today as against the Jumia online price. Though, that of Jumia is an order from overseas. Does this have anything to do with quantity?

Please how true are the above submissions. I've been doing a little research on what brand & make of phone to purchase within a budget of 100k to 150k. Though, I was kind of considering Nokia & Huawei phones.

Mods you can help to escalate it. Really need to get clarifications.
1. The main difference between Global rom or version and Chinese rom is the Network band and OS update. Some Chinese version only accept CDMA or TCDMA and not our WCDMA or HSPDA.

2. To my understanding carrier version does not have anything to do with quality only little changes in the OS.

3. I believe someone has given u the reason for that.

The blantant truth she has told you. I have a friend in Samsung Nigeria. When I wanted to replace my LED TV Samsung . He sincerely advised me not to buy certain Samsung TV made from certain countries, because their warranty does not cover Nigeria.

Lmao... She just wants sell her market.

Jumia don spoil show for those phone sellers.

I use a Nokia from Jumia and I can tell you it's the same and way cheaper.

The phone is the Global version same as those sold by Slot and it receives updates periodically.

Only that it doesn't have warranty, abeg who warranty help, warranty that you'll still pay for repairs again.

The price difference of buying from Jumia and Slot is about 30-40k and is just too much to be ignored.
U mean Jumia and slot are way cheaper than other phone shops?

fear, uncertainity and doubt. the sales rep has a target to meet, and she will tell you everything she can to discourage you from buying elsewhere

first of all, in my own expoerince, very few warranties are ever executed in nigeria. there is always one story or another

some 8 years ago, my son [then a toddler] spilled spirit on an hp laptop in the house. we went to an hp center and they said the laptop did not fall under warranty because it was american not mea [middle east and africa]. two years later, we had a Nigerian bought laptop. it had a problem, we took it to an hp center. after a week, they said that particular model does not fall under warranty. as far as warranty is concernd, unless you have a lot of aggression, you will just be hearing stories

there is also no guarantee any of these sellers actually stock spares for the phones they have in stock. it is when your device has a fault you will know. i have colleagues who had to order screens by themselves for phones bought in Nigeria.

most american spec of anything is the most superior because america is a litigious society where class action lawsuits can kill. look at cars, you hear dubai spec, american spec, etc. classic example - i buy thinkpads. for my own use. my ofice bought thinkpads for staff, and there was a clear difference in quality between my thinkpad and the office thinkpad. mine was sourced straight from america, the office laptops were emea , with some Nigerian quality downgrading thrown in.

the newer the version of any device, the better it is SUPPOSED to be. for hardcore fans, they may say version xx was better than Bleep, though.

almost anything ordered direct from abroad is always cheaper. Nigerians are very greedy. you will see lightly used laptops being sold for 400k. meanwhile same laptops, with shipping are 150k. i call it the ignorance economy. people making money off other lack of knowledge

the biggest risk to your phone is drop damage. so order it with a proper case. a PROPER case. otter or something like that. not those leather chinko rubbish. you also need to be sure that you are not buing a used or refurbished phone. by that i mean that your person on jumia is not selling you a refurb phone as new. i can refer you to the guy i use to buy off amazon. i have been doing business with him for over a year, with over 3m in procurement transactions. he is also on nairaland.

the most important thing is that any phone you buy must be clearly unlocked / not locked to any carrier, and clearly a GSM phone. thats all.

The sales girl is right though. I once took a US purchased iPhone to the apple store in the UK for battery repairs and was told by apple that they’ll need to wait for parts form the US before they can fix it.

I have had 3 premium phones in the past. I replaced the screen of two myself via screens bought on ebay. Those screens had poor quality with washed colours compared to OEMs. My current phone has a cracked screen, luckily at the bottom right corner. It's hardly visible so I am just going to keep using it like that.
Re: Sales Rep Discouraged Me From Ordering Phones From Overseas, Gave These Reasons by maj007(m): 8:56am On Aug 02, 2019
100% CORRECT.

I had the same experience with a Samsung phone sent to me from UK in 2016.

Screen got broken and then wahala began. 2 different screens were fixed but we're not compatible with the phone.

One Indian shop at Opebi later confirmed to me that serial numbers and codes for Europe spare parts are different from that of Africa hence the non compatibility.

The phone is still with me and very clean but totally useless.

I would advise you not to try it.

Apart from the possibility of damage... those courier companies would bill you to the gills.

Fedex swindled me of almost 70k and despite evidence of not remitting it to the FG, they threatened me through every possible channel.

Unfortunately i couldn't find any contact email for the relevant authorities to forward the evidence and so i gave up.
you should have contacted mikkyangel n co to pick up your order at a cheaper rate.

Many sellers even send it free of charge but it will take nothing less than three weeks.

Well, I wasn't convinced with her tales. The more reasons for the topic. It was a plaza with different phone brand stand. She was a Nokia brand sales rep. She was only trying to convince me to get the Nokia phone available in the Nigeria open market that she obviously has.
Meanwhile, the bolded are not an option. As I just disposed one of their brand I was using recently. Their motive is just to push up anything into the Nigeria market with zero value for money. A phone I bought with over 100k. In 2 years, I couldn't get a battery replacement. I was told their company have stop it's product. Hence the parts may not be available again. As said by their Carl Care.

Buying overseas from Jumia is costly because those sellers there actually buy them from other foreign shops like Amazon or Aliexpress before the resell to you on Jumia

It would be better you order it from Aliexpress or Amazon directly as it would be cheaper

Secondy, if you buy the phone with a screen guard and pouch, you would be guaranteed to use it for an extended period without any problems

Happy buyings
why you wan spoil show for jumia? the jumia rep on this forum will soon ban you, like they banned me.
