Buying overseas from Jumia is costly because those sellers there actually buy them from other foreign shops like Amazon or Aliexpress before the resell to you on Jumia

It would be better you order it from Aliexpress or Amazon directly as it would be cheaper

Secondy, if you buy the phone with a screen guard and pouch, you would be guaranteed to use it for an extended period without any problems

Happy buyings
I don't use screen guard, hates them on phones.

Oversea phones are the best. If u are a DIY like me parts can also be ordered. I ordered mine from aliexpress and the custom duty was so annoying. 12k for a 48k phone? but after bidding and pleading and 1 week later it came down to 5k. I purchased a Sony and got it for 200naira why oukitel come be 12k and the Sony was more expensive. Now its jumia all the way only problem is that jumia is way slower than aliexpress

People used Xiaomi for years before it became officially available in Nigeria and they didn’t die, my brother if what you want is available abroad then by all means buy the one that’s abroad except you feel like there’s a viable alternative here. What she said was bullshît apart from the warranty ish though cool

The sales girl is right though. I once took a US purchased iPhone to the apple store in the UK for battery repairs and was told by apple that they’ll need to wait for parts form the US before they can fix it.
Really, but I was thinking the phone is a global brand that should ordinary be available anywhere & anytime.

by that i mean that your person on jumia is not selling you a refurb phone as new. i can refer you to the guy i use to buy off amazon. i have been doing business with him for over a year, with over 3m in procurement transactions. he is also on nairaland.

the most important thing is that any phone you buy must be clearly unlocked / not locked to any carrier, and clearly a GSM phone. thats all.
Thanks for being explicit in your observation. I was intending a direct order from Jumia platform myself not via any agent. Meanwhile, Please forward me the the contact of the person you buy form via Amazon.

1. The main difference between Global rom or version and Chinese rom is the Network band and OS update. Some Chinese version only accept CDMA or TCDMA and not our WCDMA or HSPDA.

2. To my understanding carrier version does not have anything to do with quality only little changes in the OS.

3. I believe someone has given u the reason for that.
Thanks for the tips

mind you Nokia warranty service center in Nigeria is a scam. i bought Nokia 5, one of the sim stopped showing, took it to them, they kept it for over 3 weeks, they called to say it's ok, as I got home same thing happened again, i took it back they kept for another 2 weeks. still no show. then I asked for a replace, na dia fight start.

if u see a phone that u like online, buy it. even if there is a problem with it they refund you ur money. jumia has done it Ali Express has done it. these sites are far better than the shitty warranty centers in this country.
I didn't allow her to guy me oh. That was why I brought the matter to the Senate "Niaraland". Where I can get reasonable guide from experience like you shared.

Lol. At the bolded. You go fight them grin

Thanks for the advise

Here is what I was told today at a phone vendor's place. As I inquired of a particular Nokia make, that hasn't been lunched in Nigeria. Nokia X71 (8.1 plus). "It was obvious the phone can only be ordered online from overseas" I told the vendor. Then she repied as follows:

Phone brands "Nokia" ordered from overseas via Jumia is without warranty. Secondly, It is not a Nigeria specification. Hence, There might be a challenge if there are need for repair. As the exact parts may not be readily available at the Nigeria Nokia Care Centre. Except the person send it back to the country it was ordered from whenever there is a need for repair.
Is the above claims true?
I was almost paying for the one she offered as against my desired spec.

1. What are the differences between global version & the chanise version in phones?

2. Does version have anything to do with the phone's quality?

3. I noticed a wide price gap at a Nokia brand outlet today as against the Jumia online price. Though, that of Jumia is an order from overseas. Does this have anything to do with quantity?

Please how true are the above submissions. I've been doing a little research on what brand & make of phone to purchase within a budget of 100k to 150k. Though, I was kind of considering Nokia & Huawei phones.

Mods you can help to escalate it. Really need to get clarifications.
I bought a Xiaomi Note 3 special edition in 2016. I used phone without issues till December 2018 when it had charging problem. I tried to repair it in Nigeria but it requires a change of the charging port board and part was unavailable. I contacted the store I bought the phone from in China, they told me to send it to them. I did. They repaired the phone @ the cost of $10 grin

I'm rocking the phone as we speak. Buy the phone you want, life is too short to be worried about things of that nature.

Imagine if the situation is reversed and the seller is a Nigerian. grin

Repair of such phones might be hard cos of lack of spare parts.... But you can as well order the damaged parts too Eg screen...[extra stress]......

Summary: If you're not the extremely careful type, i suggest you buy the model[s] we have here... Same here

My kinda person can order for such phones cos i can use a phone for 3yrs without it falling and breaking...

Why is everyone saying "brainwash"... she gave sensible reasons , instead of shouting brainwash , why not just counter her reasons and/or suggest better alternatives......

Ciao
Thanks. I wonder what people call brainwash. I didn't do any buying from the girl. I brought the matter here for holistic reviews from experienced person. More like a debate, and all some will say is brainwash without giving alternative reasons. I wonder how some take pass primary school.

Sometimes, it wonders me if you guys take time to read through post or probably understanding is an issue. The phone is yet to be bought. The matter was raised here only as a debate. You have neither counter with points or agree with the sales rep. All you say it wash brain or brainwash. How it that meaningful to the post?! Gos!!

Don't ever buy phones that the spec isn't made for your country. Some years back, my uncle bought one Samsung phone for his brother in Saudi. The phones didn't detect Nigerian SIM cards. He had to take it to Samsung office to help him out and he was charged.

What the sales attendant to you is true and there are no quality disparity between the Nigerian and foreign spec. I have been a victim. I got a nokia phone for my wife some years back from Dubai only to discover it has a factory rebooth fault at startup when I presented it to my here in Nigeria. Took it to nokia care centre in Ikeja with the hope that it has a warranty cover, only to be told after checking the IMEI that there is no warranty cover here in Nigeria and that it wasn't sold here afterwhich i told them where i bought it from. I ended up paying 5k for the repair service and i later discover that the phone price here is cheaper than what i got it in Dubai.

My xiaomi redmi note 5 was ordered from aliexpress (China) . I have been using it since November last year and I haven't had any issues. You can order a phone abroad, just make sure you buy from a reputable seller and also use a screen guard.
This is not about a reputable seller. The question is, is the phone or gadget made for your country? If not you will waste your money and even blame yourself for buying it.

Re: Sales Rep Discouraged Me From Ordering Phones From Overseas, Gave These Reasons by Nobody: 11:27am On Aug 02, 2019
That depends. I had a Nokia 8 with the classic half screen problem.

They fixed it under warranty with a new screen and the same thing happened again.

The permanent fix was to give me a new board and screen as Nokia has advised.

The second time however, i checked the imei and refused to collect the phone plus it was almost going out of warranty.

Guess what, I eventually got a brand new Nokia 8. So their warranty makes sense. I saved myself over 40k. If I had bought that phone anywhere else, they would not have touched it at all.

The main question is, can it be fixed locally. In the event of eventuality. Warranty won't be available for phones imported. That is certain
