However, I will like to mention that when we (my family and I) went for our interview in June, the first document we asked for was a proof of what we are going for in the US (Invitation letter in our case since we were going on a visit).

so I strongly advise you go with one. is better you had it than regret why you did not come with one if asked.

I'm glad we've clarified the grey areas. I actually learned something big from you for which I'm much grateful. I learned it's theoretically possible to go to Barbados through Brazil. Thus this means all one needs when going to Barbados is a Nigerian Passport with a Brazil Visa. One of the routes I'm suggesting is as follows:

Outbound
LOS - JNB - GRU (South African Airways)
GRU - PTY - POS - BGI (Copa + Caribbean Airlines)

Return
BGI - POS - PTY - GRU (Caribbean Airlines + Copa)
GRU - JNB - LOS (South African Airways)

I don't think S. Africa Airways codeshares with the other airlines but I think a Brazil Visa takes care of this.

Abbreviations
LOS - Lagos, Nigeria.
JNB - Johanessburg, South Africa.
GRU - Sao Paulo, Brazil.
PTY - Tocumen, Panama.
POS - Piarco, Trinidad and Tobago.
BGI - Bridgetown, Barbados.

You don't need a Brazil Tourist/Transit Visa for this trip as long as you connect in the same terminal which is Terminal 3 of gru airport.

I got a successful visa interview . I scheduled for an interview after the dropbox was cancelled.

My observation; about 5 people ahead of me and one person immediately after me got the white paper.

My transcript;

VO- You got a Canadian Visa?
Me- Yes
VO- Are you also travelling to Canada
Me- Yes
VO- Are you connecting

Vo- is you husband in Canada?

Vo- you got children? Are you travelling alone?
VO- Do you intend giving birth later in the usa.



This forum actually gave me the confidence needed and above all i give all the glory to God.

it's very possible and South Africa is with Star Alliance, which means with a Brazilian visa you can use Aviance airline easily since they're both in Star Alliance.

Everything you posted here is wrong but I will address the bolded for now. A traveller need a full schengen visa and not transit visa when stopping over in 2 schengen airports. It's only when he is transiting only one schengen airport and the final destination is outside a schengen area that he will need a schengen transit visa (unless he meets the exemption requirements).

The exemption requirement is that the person should have a greencard/visa for any one of the ffg countries US or UK or Canada or Ireland or Japan or Bulgaria or Romania or the European Economic Area (EEA). Which is a tall order if you ask me.

I guess you missed the line where I stated if the traveler has a valid visa to the mentioned destination by seyewest and as mentioned also in your reply.

Oh Ok. Guess I didn't understand you. I thought you were trying to buttress Seyewest argument. Seyewest had said one wouldn't need a schengen visa (whether A or C) for this trip: LOS - AMS - DXB. I thought you were in agreement with him. I totally agree with your bolded statement

What are the chances that he will be given the visa given his wife's status in the US? Is there anything he can do to increase his chances?

Why do you think he will be denied?
The asylum was granted 2 years to his wife and children. He stayed back in Nigeria, and visited twice using B1/B2 and returned. It isn't stated anywhere he wants to get legal stay status based on his wife and children's status.

PS: I am just asking why for information purposes. I do not know or have an expert opinion on this matter. I just think it is a straight forward issue that he should not be denied
