Miss, please do not be discouraged. Programming is only one part of computer science and there are other parts to it like

1. User experience design
2. Software Testing and Quality assurance
3. Project/product management
4. Networking

And many more. I have friends who graduated with 1st class in CS and doesn't know how to code. So don't be worried. The issue is schools in Germany many require you to code, so you might just have to learn the basics.

For example User Experience designers earn twice the salary of Programmers, but a lot of people dont know.

the both cities are ohk. weimar is in the east. the course NHRE is a nice one. i know 4 Nigerians studying the course and they are enjoying it.

Erlangen is also good as it is close to Nuremberg. I think Erlangen will be best for you.

My small bits, it helped me and it may help you too,

1) Sign up on codeacademy, choose a path and complete it.
2) Look for books to compliment what you do not understand. ( Illegal: library genesis )
3) Practice(take up a small project (to do app) and code your way thru it, it may be a copy-paste work, but make sure you type every code.
4) Try and add some functionality to the code. This deepens your understanding of the concept
5) If you have issues, use google, stackoverflow.
6) Repeat step 2, 4, 5

If you have money, register at Pluralsight and choose your path.
Finally, you definitely will repeat step 2,4,5,6 should you register on any Video tutorial site. Youtube is good but it's really difficult filtering junk from hardcore stuff.
If you are interested in Web design, follow Traversy Media on youtube, he is good.


All in all, you need motivation, dedication, and discipline to scale thru.


NB: look for a friend to start the journey, it is always easier for two heads to crack a nut.

Quite educative and brings back a flood of memories. We thank God for grace.

All questions asked and answers given (sliding tackles and all ) are great learning curves for all.

My summary....

Landed October 3rd 2015.....Digital Communications in CAU Kiel. Took the first lecture and knew it wasn't for me. Told the profs so and opted out of the program (was still registered of course and was attending the german class provided by the school and intensive language class with VHS at the same time (register with VHS in your city within your first year to get a good rebate (up to 50% off) you can select a start date months away).

Switched to Information Engineering in FH Kiel the following summer (March 2016), did multiple jobs while studying (Printing presses, Cruise ships, Umzug, Chinese Restaurant. etc. Man hustle oooo....days of 12hrs straight jobs 4 times a week and top it with a 13hrs shift on Sundays
I was actually doing good in school but learning the language suffered as I couldn't fit it in the calamitous schedule I was running (I did attend intensive classes later though).

Then I got a rude awakening , I visited my naija university mate in Berlin working for Bombardier at the time and immediately knew I was wasting my time with the lager jobs I thought was giving me money. I needed to look at the bigger picture. Got back from Berlin and applied to Allianz Technology in Munich for internship, I got in and all of a sudden was making more working 9-5pm (own office with perks, fantastic international team and exposure into the professional world in Germany) than i was doing working 12hrs (4times a week) plus 13hrs on sundays. All, while doing professional work and improving my professional profile.

I was at Allianz Technology for 1yr & 3months (finished my master project and thesis) and got 2 full time offers before I was done with my master study in October of 2018.


My advice, do what you have to do to survive out here (legally of course). Make sure you pick the right course and if you find yourself in a jam with your choice course, be open to changing. Do not worry about hustling, it is not going to be at the top of your priorities when you actually settle and draw those priorities. Especially if you are looking at the bigger picture. Work will always be available, whether in your city or outside but believe me when I say you will be alright and find a way as everyone before you have done.

Learn the language

Before you leave Nigeria or wherever you are based, set your goals (minimum and maximum), have unbelievably high expectations but also psych yourself up for the very worst case scenario so that wherever you find yourself, you would be mentally grounded to face the music and sing out loud because darkness lasts just the night, light comes with the break of dawn.

God bless our dreams and make our strives abundantly fruitful...

I' m a female computer science graduate(second class upper) with no experience except a 6months internship.
I would love to go for MS in information systems or information engineering because I don't really like coding and maths.

No one likes Maths in school but we all found a way around it and some became really good at it while finding their way around it. Same goes for coding. You can learn it if you put your mind to it but if you know it is not for you then it isn't...no crime in that

No one has an exhaustive list of these cities though most are in the bigger cities which means more competition and really lower chances of getting admitted due to the quality of applications. The smaller cities that offer such may have disadvantages such as no student jobs or close proximity to bigger cities. My advice would be to search for courses that match your desires and then shortlist based on other addons such as economy, renewal, cost of living. etc.

2)Also I would love a city where I can get internship during my studies so as to gain some work experience

Yes the bigger cities offer more possibilities to get internships or work student positions but the truth is that you should be willing to move to wherever for internships. Especially if you are gunning for the top dogs which will definitely look good on your CV. People have even gone to other countries for internships (Brazil, Canada, Hungary, Poland, Malta. etc. Keep an open mind...

3) Is it only programmers that are in demand in Germany?what are the chances for other fields in IT?

Of course not! They have the higher demand though but other aspects of IT are also in demand though knowledge of the German language is key.

Keep your search within Information Technology, Information Engineering and cybersecurity if interested.
Avoid any course with Communication Technology in it (this deals with Signals and Systems, Antenna technology, Radio Frequency and Microwave....which is tons of maths and calculations)

1. what are the possibilities of removing certain courses and doing them at a later time during the Msc program, I know it will extend the duration of the program, but I'm thinking long term, in terms of how it will affect side hustle( cos there will be less workload ), grades, and most importantly it will give ample time to learn the language to a respectable level.

The beauty of MSc in Germany is that you can shuffle your courses as you wish and as is convenient for you. You can do an assessment of the courses you will be taking and select the ones that will allow you time to work and learn German. Alternatively, you can try and rush your first 2 semesters so you have less course load in the later semesters. It really is up to you and you will naturally make these changes when you land and see what obtains where you find yourself.

2. what do you know about kaiserslautern in terms of student jobs and the possibility of internship.
there are limited schools in the summer application and that's one of the few schools u could see that matches what I want.

From what I know about the city, it really isn't really the bubbling place and I think Hadampson had posted something about the place here a while back. Look on the bright side, You will be about 1hr from france, 3hrs from Luxembourg, 5hrs from Belgium and Switzerland .

Applying for internship is like applying for a job. each advert for internship will normally state what mode of application they accept (typically a CV, cover letter and a short email introducing yourself and why you want in...). The process goes on from there....

Building/Architecture is surprisingly buoyant but the need to speed German is Key. So if one can speak German well (B2 level I would advice) then internship of post-study jobs are abundant.

Project management especially in IT abound and may offer less hurdle with the language as some will request for English speakers only. In other industries, German language is a must!

The fashion industry is very coded but blooming massively.....Language as you know will be the major challenge here. I know a few guys trying to break into fashion photography but I have met a Cameroonian guy who broke into the modelling industry in France. He was doing gigs for top brands and traveling the world for shows while still a student. Being a native French speaker also helped him though....

Lol, don't tell me you carried the bags on your head. Anyway, Leipzig is a smaller airport compared to Frankfurt. Imagine if it was Frankfurt you landed, with no coins for the trolley, Mehn na Gobe be dat now, from baggage collection area to train station/taxi pick up. Don't try this if you are coming for the first time ohh. It won't be funny

Maths get level for Germany....

The depth of maths required in Cryptography depends but in most cases it is for a couple of courses.

Still a safe bet for anyone trying to steer clear of core maths and besides, Cybersecurity is the sweet baby for companies now and positions are being filled with or without German language knowledge...

Hi guys, I've read a bit about the N26 online bank and would like to open an account with them, however I'd like to know if there is any majors cons I need to watch out for.
