Firstly, it might interest you to know that I don't subscribe to any political party. So also I have no loyalty to any tribe. Therefore, I advice you to read with a clear mind; free from ethno-political bias.

Also, I will only respond to comments that contain no insult. My purpose here is education for myself and others. Insulting people defeats the purpose of the education.

Okay, now you're ready to go.

You see, Herdsmen menace is difficult to control for some reasons;

Firstly, not all of herdsmen are criminals. At least you can't tell me that every fulani cattle rearer kills.
And the law says that it's better to leave free a criminal than erroneously kill an innocent. You remember how Jonathan was almost crucified internationally for sending soldiers to raid a BH infested village. Many innocent civilians were killed. So, a situation where criminals hide among innocents is a difficult one to tackle.

Secondly, not every crime that the media ascribe to Herdsmen was truly by Herdsmen. An example is the man that said herds men attacked him and jumped into the bush when they saw vigilantes. Did they jump with their cows? I wonder how someone can jump into the bush with 50cows and hide. It's certain that this is a fake news.
Another example is the Ikire, Osun menace. When the culprits were caught, they were easterners with some westerners.
So you see.

Lastly, the government tried to curb the issue by tackling the root cause. The single cause of Herdsmen conflict is competition for forage or water especially during the dry season. A herdsman may mistakenly or intentionally graze a farmer's cropland out of desperation to feed his cattle during the dry season. On seeing this the angry farmer protests and may try to attack the cattle or the herder, then that fights back and conflict begins which may be fatal. In some cases, some sinister Herdsmen may beat, injure or kill the farmer as a proactive measure.

Then the government brought a solution to this; RUGA settlement. Unfortunately, it was politicised and many claimed that the president had ulterior motives. I'm not here to say who's right or wrong. However, it is disappointing to see that none of all the people castigating the RUGA settlement scheme proffered an alternative solution to the problem.

Actually the herdsmen menace isn't escalating.

What we are beginning to witness is an upsurge in kidnapping with many claiming the perpetrators are Fulani even when sometimes evidence points elsewhere.

I will agree with you on the point that not all Fulani herdsmen are criminals, but there’s another perspective that you haven’t looked at, which is the kidnapping aspect which is different from herdsmen/farmer clashes. Let me explain what I understand about this situation and also try to be brief.

There are criminal elements amongst the Fulani herdsmen who have taken to kidnapping and because it’s now more profitable than cattle rearing, more of them are engaging in it. Last year one of them was caught and he said as much, that mostly the young ones amongst them sneak out to perpetrate these acts. We can also see from the accounts of survivors who identified their captors. Due to their nomadic lifestyle it’s difficult to track them to one area.

Now if you bring RUGA to communities how would it solve the kidnapping issue? When no one has been seen to be caught and punished for earlier crimes. So do not blame certain regions who are apprehensive of the RUGA issue.

Solution; Ban open grazing nationwide. Let RUGA be in states that desire it. Let the cattle rearers buy land and ranch their cattle. It’s a business, why do they find it so hard to invest in it

Because some few heartless Northern leaders see it as new cash cow.. The locals are paying the herdsmen not to attack them

ALL HERDSMEN UNDER MIYETTI-ALLAH ARE CRIMINALS.
they have killed over 30,000(thirty thousand) Nigerians since 2015 and not even one of them have been prosecuted, rather the defense minister speak for them

Do you have any links to a police report that clearly identified a group of caught kidnappers as fulani?

Mr Op you know nothing and have chosen not to know anything. I mean you have chosen not to face reality.

How can you explain a group of men wiping out a whole village in the middle of the night?

How can you explain raping women, killing children and all manner of atrocities done in the name of grazing?

How can you explain the renaming of villages by the Fulani herdsmen?

How come the only people the fg want to compensate in the whole problem is the herdsmen? What happen to the ordinary farmers whose wives, children were killed?

How can you justify the FG taking over peoples ancestral land to appease and settle foreigners who kill and main the local people without restrictions?

Many more questions are in my mind but let me leave you for now.

Even BBC aired a documentary on it recently featuring Abba Kayari and his team.

You should just change the title of this thread to:.

Fulanization Apologist: Why The Escalating Herdsmen Menace Is Justified

Be upfront with your intention and quit pretending to be apolitical and detribalized. Your pretense erases any iota of credibility from your utterly biased narrative.

I'm done with you. Most of you live in south Sudan but wants to analyse what is happening in Nigeria.
My questions are not open ended and is not in anyway ambiguous. In fact if you live in Nigeria and you follow the trend of events you are gonna have answers to all the questions I asked.

I’m sure if you did a search you would find it. Is the aim of your write up to prove that Fulani are not involved with kidnapping? Just asking

The police have failed to arrest and prosecute them successfully, because they have sponsors who aid and abet their nefarious deeds.

The only reason these senseless killings won't stop is because Buhari supports the killings and funds it as well

Your last sentence is laughable.

Oga, Nigerians have proffered solutions.
The solution they have always proffered is RANCHING.

RANCHING is what the developed worlds do.
Why move cattle from place to place over people's farms in a 21st century?

A RANCH could be a building or an open field that is fenced.

See image of what a ranch looks like.

More than two people have provided links to news items yet you are asking for more proof. Maybe we all should turn detectives to satisfy you. Your claim of being unbiased has been rubbished. Is it that you cannot do a simple google search?

What's the difference between RUGA and Ranching? A honest question.
Re: Why Herdsmen Menace Keeps Escalating by GeoAfrikana(m): 3:10pm On Aug 10, 2019
I've done my research on the topic and created a thread to explain the difference between Ranching and RUGA settlement.

See it here:

It's so sad that our people couldn't exercise patience to enlighten one another.
