The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has finally shut down Akanu Indian International Airport Enugu.

The Airport was shut down 2300 hours (12 midnight Friday).
However, a concession was given to Ethiopian Airline flight to land on Saturday because it was a pre-scheduled international flight before the decision to shut the airport.

The airline had argued that the cost of conveying passengers from Port-Harcourt International airport to Enugu by road and providing accommodation for them would be too heavy on the airline, and therefore should be allowed to drop the passengers at Enugu since the flight was scheduled before announcement to shut down the airport.

FAAN had on Saturday August 17 announced it’s intention to close down the runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport on Saturday, August 24, to effect maintenance that will enhance safety operations.

Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, dropped the hint in a press statement in Lagos.

“This move is aimed at resolving the existing Safety/Security concerns to flight operations,” she said.

She stressed that the date of the re opening will be communicated in due course.

Despite a passionate letter written to President Muhammad Bihari by governors of South East states to weight in and pressure FAAN to postpone the shutdown pending when alternative arrangements were made, the Federal Government went ahead with the shutdown.

Typo by the newspaper...Should be Akanu Ibiam.

Why is this frustrating you? Must everybody travel through Lagos airport?

Are you happy with the Apapa-Oshodi road that is congested because everybody is using Lagos sea ports?

Were people and businesses giving enough time before the closure?

Did FAAN give an estimate when this repair will be concluded so people and business can plan?

Can people initiate a class action against FAAN if their operations are disrupted because of the shoddy manner the airport is closed?

Watch out how this airport will remain closed for a very long time.

The truth is the Igbo nation is really marginalized in many areas, and the aim is to see this region remain less attractive.

The struggle for Biafra actualization will continue because there's no hope for any igob man in Nigeria. The earlier you realize this the better.

This is an opportunity for Buhari's "friends" like Orji Uzo Kalu, Dave Umahi, Willie Obiano, Chris Ngige, Rochas Okorocha etc. , and South East APC loyalists, like Joe Igbokwe, to show the people of the South East that their principal Buhari is a misunderstood man. They already told us we are missing a lot from Buhari. Good, now is the time to show the people a bit of Buhari goodies.

In addition to the runway overhaul and expansion, now, is the time for Buhari to show that his order that Orie Emene Market be moved, telecommunication masts be dismantled, water from Ekulo river be piped to the airport etc, were with honest intentions.

Buhari, your minister, Hadi Sirika, told Nigerians that five foreign airlines indicated interest to land at Enugu airport, but wouldn't be permitted given that the airport wasn't fitted with night instrument landing facilities. So, now, is the time for it to be fitted.

Buhari, Air Peace, has indicated interest to make Akanu Ibiam Airport, their hub for west and central Africa routes, but haven't done so because of the lack of night instrument landing facilities and the unused, dilapilated buildings erected by the Airforce close to the runway. Now, should be the time to effect them.

Buhari, Governor Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has complied with your instructions with regard to the masts, market, abbatoir etc. The ball is now in your court. And we must know the duration of these works.

Stylishly telling Nnamdi Kanu that Biafraland is officially 'Int Airportless' incase he needs to sneak into BIAFRA

More so, degrading SE for rejection his APC Devil party.

This too shall pass like Abacha, IBB, Murtala and Ahmadu Bello. These Islamists leaders can only rule as Tyrants cos Hadith does not support level playing field between Muslims and infidels

Abuja own before it was closed down. It's time duration was given and also KADUNA airport was used as alternative. But only one international Airport in South east is closed down with only few days notice. Without alternative and duration of repair. One Nigeria my foot

@Abagworo Wen will Rivers get a governor dat will construct Residential and Business district for SE Igbos in Port Harcourt, to compensate for Alfred Diete-Spiff handing Igbo people property to Ijaws?

The residential Property should be handed freely to Igbo Business Investors in Port Harcourt newly created Business District.

U want Port Harcourt to be like Lagos and Abuja and to improve SE investors confidence in Port Harcourt?

Two thing u must do is one, build state of the art modern infrastructure for housing, business and transport. Have a Port Harcourt master plan and keep investing in infrastructure in hope that u will eventually maximize profit on taxation.

The second thing is provide the area with adequate security. (no form of attacks)

It is an outrage for Rotimi Amaechi to close our Airport in Enugu and ask us to use the one he built in Port Harcourt.

That is very offensive. Even our fathers could not tolerate such affront, not to talk of this present generation that think Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Owerri, Asaba, Onitsha and Awka.

Wen will you Igboid learn manner of approach and how to relate with your people from the hinterland or have cultism destroyed every atom of sense that u people are suppose to have? cc pazienza
