Very stupid talk.
Why not close those borders that help smuggle in his terrorist brothers.
Because it's not cow. Assuming it's berth cows will he order the closure?
doris00:
President Muhammadu Buhari has attributed the partial closure of Nigeria’s border with Benin Republic to the massive smuggling activities especially of rice, taking place on that corridor.

The Nigerian leader gave the reason during an audience granted his Beninois counterpart, Patrice Talon, on the margins of the Seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD7), in Yokohama, Japan on Wednesday.

Buhari, who expressed great concern over the smuggling of rice, said it threatened the self-sufficiency already attained due to his administration’s agricultural policies.

According to him, “Now that our people in the rural areas are going back to their farms, and the country has saved huge sums of money which would otherwise have been expended on importing rice using our scarce foreign reserves, we cannot allow smuggling of the product at such alarming proportions to continue.”

The Nigerian President said the limited closure of the country’s western border was to allow Nigeria’s security forces to develop a strategy on how to stem the dangerous trend and its wider ramifications.

Responding to the concerns raised by President Talon on the magnitude of suffering caused by the closure, Buhari said he had taken note and would reconsider reopening it in the not too distant future.

He, however, disclosed that a meeting with his counterparts from Benin and Niger Republics would soon be called to determine strict and comprehensive measures to curtail the level of smuggling across their borders.

Earlier, President Talon had said he called on the Nigerian President as a result of the severe impact which the closure of the Nigerian border was having on his people.

Buhari also received in audience, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa during which issues of common bilateral relations especially the killings of Nigerians in South Africa, were discussed. The matter will be further examined during the Nigerian leader’s official visit to Pretoria in October 2019.

What about the massive smuggling including of Fulanis, gold and weapons in the Nigerian northern borders between Chad and Niger Republic? Shouldn't smuggling of illegal aliens and weapons into Nigeria be of greater concern to you than smuggling of rice through Benin Republic? Any person with few brain cells would understand that the later is less of a threat to the security of the country. Or is because shutting down the smuggling of rice helps to maintain your tribe's man dominance and monopoly of a staple food item in Nigeria? If Nigerians, especially the southerners do not see through all these shenanigans and understand what is taking place, then they are FOOLS. To the northerners, it's all about control and stifling of the southerners.

My brother, those that supported the return of this man and are still supporting him deserve all the curses they are getting.
It was simply insanity for anyone, aside his family members to have cast a vote for a 4 year reconfirmed, officially 78yr old, monumental failure and bigot.

useless Buhari. the border was closed without any warning whatsoever. imagine lives, businesses and genuine transactions that were badly affected during that closure period

A friend of mine that works with a car repair firm in Lagos, called me recently that their business has been facing challenges due to the border closure because most of their customers come from that axis. In fact, the guy was pleading that I should help him with any amount to keep body n soul together.

these children of hate are really something else. they want to eat their cake and have it back. it's not possible. how can you Have a better economy without taking advantage of areas that you have strength. you have to start from somewhere. as the saying goes, no pain no gain. an example was the GSM revolution. sim cards started at a price of about N35000, but today, they are sold for N200. when the multiplier effects of Nigerian rice sets in, price will fall. but it takes time
