Rice here is 22,000 per bag already,if they can put addresses where people can buy this rice across the country,it will be appreciated, except they are just making mouth as usual.
Where is your location because a 50kg bag of foreign rice goes for between 14,5k to 15,5k here in Onitsha, local rice is cheaper and tastier.

Y should i buy local stony rice for 14000 when i can easily get a bag of clean, stonless imported rice for 17000?

Lots of local rice in the market that are well polished and stone free, stop that mentality that anything imported is best

I ton (20 of 50kg) of rice is $150 in Thailand and India
Dollar at 355; $150 is about 53k naira.
Meaning 20bags is 53k. Therefore one bag is #2650.

My question is, do Nigeria farmers use gold as fertilizer for for their own rice? With the huge difference in price, the temptation to continue to import is very high.

U are a Nigerian you must dead

Now how come they sold Thailand rice 16k per bag on the retail market? The price supposed to be 8k on the retail market.

My brother u have said it all. Which favour is NIPAN doing Nigerians. Are they using gold as fertilizer? This govt is a fraud and only out to satisfy the so called farmers in the north. Locking the Western border is their agenda to impoverish the south.. How can import be cheaper than what u claim u are producing in your own back yard.... Common sense.

Yiu are asking "who rice eep?"... It seems you are not a Nigerian self. Do you want to tell me that you didn't eat rice (in any of its various forms like jollof rice, white rice and stew, fried rice ofada rice, etc) like 20 times throughout the month of August

Nigerians and rice eh, like 5 & 6. But wait a minute, is it a must for Nigerians to eat rice?? It's the crazy appetite for rice that is fueling all this smuggling and increasing price.

from ur calculations... Do u think dey sell fresh rice at that rate for u, also remember that price is tag with expired rice from their stores.... If they sell at that price what's their cost of production per that 1000kg(1tonne) if thet sell $150/tonne?....... Also u only calculate cost without shipping plus chains down to consumers........ Think twice br u comments in public issues

If I don't eat rice, I won't die.

Even at my wedding, fish or goat meat peppersoup will be shared to every guest, cow will be killed and suya will be made, all these will be sourced from my animal farm! The only thing I am buying will be drinks. If you don't like it, please don't even come for my wedding!

He is calculating actual cost with out shipping. If u include that, it will hover around 9k as landing cost.. What took it to 14k is illegal settlement and transport to smuggle it in. If it was coming direct to the port u can't buy rice beyond 10k which is still high.... Don't forget it went as low as 6500k during Jonathan and 5500k during yar adua.

Thailand and India.......
Please how much is this same rice in England and USA?

Is it the same price as fish too......
Why do we always do comparisons unnecessarily...
Tomorrow it will be comparison by another set for refined petroleum products.

The question you should have asked was: Why would an importer buy at #2,650, but sell at #9000 as at then! Were they not villains?

This a good news.
No economy survives by having more imports than exports.
It will affect the balance of trade and payment and trade.
This administration is taking bold steps in revamping the economy.
Many Nigerians are short-term oriented.
And I believe, this is a way to balance and short-termism and long termism!
We need more policing of our borders, to further stem smuggling.
Increase tariffs on any product we can comfortably produce at home.
