Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says attacks on Nigerians in South Africa are absolutely unacceptable, reckless and unreasonable. Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement in Abuja, quoted the vice president while fielding questions from reporters on Tuesday in Kano on the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

The vice president said the violence was reckless, unfortunate, and against the ideals South African leaders fought for.

Osinbajo recalled the role Nigeria played in pulling down apartheid in South Africa. According to him, the recent attacks are condemnable. “It is very sad and very unfortunate that the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians living in South Africa are once again being destroyed with such wantonness and with such carelessness and recklessness.

“It is unfortunate because Nigeria and Nigerians invested a great deal in the pulling down of apartheid. “Besides, these acts of bigotry are entirely contrary to the very ideals that all the great South African leaders, including the present president fought for, and for which many gave their lives.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has already spoken about this; and obviously we are very concerned and certainly intend to take this up with the authorities in South Africa in order to ensure that this sort of thing does not repeat itself. ” This is absolutely unacceptable and unconscionable,” he said. At a time like this, it is also important that we take a very good look at ourselves and take stock of how we have fared as a nation over the years. Most of these African countries nig at one time or the other helped in shaping their economies or even setting things right politically are today faring better than us. Their economies are much stronger than ours with visible and bankable development indicators. Example, if my findings are right, the monthly minimum wage in SA as of Jan 2019 is about R3,500 which is above N84, 000. You know better what the minimum wage is in nig and the politics being played with it.

The killings in SA is highly condemnable and the reprisal attacks by Nigs in Nig might not be the right way to go. Most of these SA businesses in Nig are run as franchises with Nigs having a major stake in them while Nigs being killed in SA are mainly shop owners eking out a living by selling various wares. Apparently, it appears that the SA govt, celebrities, and even security forces are in support of what their "lazy" riffraff brothers and sisters are doing and there might clearly be no permanent end to this in sight.

Nig, where were you when SA began getting things right economically? If only Nig all these years was on a serious development course with visible and verifiable development indicators understandable to all, no African nation/person will dare lift a finger against any Nig (the supposed giant of Africa). But we have so much veered off course on how to get anything right so much so that these our African brothers know that our lives worth nothing but at home and abroad.

I genuinely voted and campaigned for u and your master, thinking you guys were everything your manifesto said. Remember you campaigning in BRT buses then and made it sound as if 4 years was too much to turn things around, sincerely my heart was filled with joy that at last. But here is what we have now, the little respect we had from other African countries is completely blown away. They deport, jail and kill us and they are not even diplomatic about it.

You guys had already pushed Nigerians to its limits. At the slightest provocation we will come for you and ur master.

With the way things are unfolding it is coming sooner than I thought.

While the dullard and his stooge (Osibanjo) are sending spokespersons to speak, nothing is being done.

Nigeria is dragging its feet. Speaking against iy won't do nothing.

Sometimes I feel that being Nigerian is a payback for a great evil we did in our past life.

Always the one to do the damage control for this unresponsive government. The president of South Africa was seen on air condemning this heinous act and has vowed to rein in the perpetrators. But our President was just mute,he cared less. He's angry his citizens are leaving the country in droves due to bad governance. He was caught on air saying ' they can leave the country if they so wish'. They can kill them all for all he wants provided they are not cows and closed Northern folks. Yet, you will see seemingly intelligent people looking so stupid suddenly trying to reason for him and defend him. I wonder if Yusuf or Kiki was caught up in the attacks, if they will sit down in Abuja, issue empty statements and wait till October before they can go and stop this rubbish. Even, the late Sanni Abacha, with all the garb of evil and terror on him won't sit idly by and watch this go like that..Remember,in 1996, when he stopped the super eagles from attending the nations cup in South Africa as one of his response to a lingering diplomatic tiff between the two countries at the time..This is just so sad.

Rebuilding our own country is the only way out of this.
Make Nigeria a Paradise on earth is the only solution. Mere condemning the act will do nothing.
