The Nigerian constitution did not say secondary school education should be free but only basic education. These so called good old days free education in the past was only for primary school. All these Nigeria states are not reading the constitution because only basic education was suppose to be free and compulsory i think. |

Honestly not a bad idea. But I do believe Ogun state govt have plans on improving the educational sector in the state. Like. 1. Knowing the numbers of Public schools in the state 2. Provision of a conducive learning environment. 3.Infrastructure which could go along way in attaining the level of education we crave for. These few points should really looked into. |

mrvitalis:There are many kids roaming the internet nowadays. Do you think Awolowo was waiting for monthly allocations from the Federal Government before paying teachers salaries? Why do developed countries adopt the system of free Education as a policy?. Every child is entitled to free and compulsory Education, that's the least any sane country could give a child below the age of 18. May God deliver Nigerians from failure mentality. |

mrvitalis:Seems you can only read but lacks the ability to comprehend. I referred to a child below the age of 18; that's a minor. Does that not imply basic? PS; Is free basic education not free education?. The level of jaundiced education is really on the increase in Nigeria. |

The amount is reasonable, here in oyo state, All levies has been banned from state schools and all PTA teachers has been sent back home without a penny. Our Governor(Seyi Makinde) has forgotten that some of these PTA teacher has served in these schools for more than 10years and they have nothing to relay on.He should also put himself in the shoes of these teachers. ...Meanwhile, state schools does not have enough teachers, These PTA teachers does bulk of the job, while the permanent teachers will just be relaxing.. At the end of the month, Principals takes the largest share of the money paid for the PTA levy and pays these PTA teachers between 10k to 20k in a month and you dare not complain.. Anyway, God is watching us all.. A big thank you to him. |

Encouraging Dapo Abiodun has declared a state of emergency on education in Ogun State. The sector needs to be given absolute priority and any cash contribution that is not excessive should be met by Parents whose children will be the beneficiary of a quality education. For me quality is what matters most. When I read grown adults on NL, so-called graduates , writing loosers instead of losers and formal Governor instead of former Governor I cringe at the poor standard of education in Nigeria. When things are done very cheaply quantity may increase but quality suffers and the net effect is a loss overall in what a system wants to achieve. Better 10 quality Doctors than 200 potential killers posing as Doctors. |

mrvitalis:They aren't socialist that's misconceptions. They practice free arket system and have geneous welfare system. Nigeria neither care for capitalism or want to taxed 60% of their income on average. |

Olushylay1:Wow! The PTA teachers did a great job in the absence of adequate regular teachers. Most schools were grossly understaffed. The 1000 levy per term and PTA donations were being used to subsidise the payment of those teachers who filled a huge gap. Part of it was also used for maintenance of facilities. Sad to know they've been thrown out unceremoniously. I keep praying for GSM and Oyo State. He needs to put sentiments aside, understand what has transpired in the sector and design a sustainable development plan. Alumni associations have helped a lot in turning many schools around. Schools deteriorated due to lack of support from the government. Some hired extra teachers and trained them to support the PTA and improve the learning process for the children. I hope he's given adequate information to work with. |
