This is great news.

If we spend our money within ourselves it will be great than spend it out. Let be wise let us first help ourselves before we help others

I still can't explain the rationale behind somebody refusing to buy "ojolowo bread" at N250 besides his house then take Okada N300 to shoprite to buy N700 bread at shoprite is this also the government's fault?

saharareporters is just doing their own anti SA promotion

shoprite in most of these civil service states only does good business on sundays and public holidays

other than that na to buy bread only

just a poorly thought out article

even within lagos, you will see that shoprite has been strategic.

the biggest and best stocked are in ikeja and lekki

most of the others are like poor cousins.i live in festac, and you cannot compare the size and content at shoprite festac to shoprite lekki

sometimes, i just go to lekki when i want my full options.

now look at akure, a civil service town with little to no business per se.

everytime we wanted to do upgrades of stations in akure, they simply could not meet the numbers.

how many people there would be shopping at shoprite in the first place?

even in lagos, intelligent shoppers plan their purchases. indomie and ariel are cheaper in shop rite, items like peak are more expensive. most household goods are overpriced, so you only buy the imported ones you know only shoprite stocks. to be frank,a lot of the time, i just go straight for the clearance aisle.

in the end, this is just a BS dreaming article as far as i am concerned.

Apt!

When it comes to business, the sooner you Nigerians start behaving like the Jews and Indians the better. They patronise themselves first before foreigners, that way they are growing their economy and bettering themselves. They believe if their brother or neighbour is doing fine, then the community is doing fine. They don’t go about displaying their Gucci or Versace as this is translated as stupidity.

You lack total sense
pleas tell that to Donald Trump who used exact same strategy to boost America's economy to the current peak its enjoying now...... Making people respect you will build confidence in investors and that's the only way Nigeria can leverage on the bad image they've created for themselves to draw investors down here.... Its all business you know...

They don't have any competition worthy of mention my dear sir and the government is not interested in placing fines when they can simply extort the companies for personal gains.

These supermarkets sell a lot of fake products. One advantage of shopping malls is the guarantee of original provisions.

Even shoprite's bread that sales fast in one of the civil service states you mentioned (Ondo State) now have a strong competitor(NAO bread)

There are things I won't think of buyiny in shoprite, for example electronics.
The differences between their prices and that of authorized electronic dealers or other electronic dealers are high, sometimes up to ten of thousands but trust some Nigerians, they like showoff.

its because of the calibres of Nigerian investors who did all they could to monopolize the market e.g DSTV... If government takes that decision those investors won't make profits and have no choice than to pullout and that kills their brand naturally.

NITEL was the biggest in Nigeria until econect came along, econet became the biggest until Glo took over, now MTN is running things so if they leave they will be companies to fill that vaccume comfortable but the most important thing is to create an enabling environment for investors and you can't do that when one company monopolized everything so if MTN and DSTV leaves it'll be the best thing that'll happen to us because it will make room for healthy competition.
Re: Supermarket Owners Rake In Huge Profits Over Closure Of Shoprite In Akure by Nobody: 8:59am On Sep 06, 2019
Welcome development, but let's face it our people are greedy. They will use this opportunity to hike prices, we exploit ourselves when we spot opportunities to do so. A location that costs 50 naira will become 100 naira just because it's raining. I lost my Samsung note pen and went to buy it in the market and they told me 7k, I bought the same pen for 800 naira on AliExpress. My laptop keyboard they told me 8k but it costs 3k on AliExpress. Why did we patronize shoprite in the first place? Because things where cheap there and usually not fake products. There bread costs 350 naira here, but the once in stores cost 500 naira but complete nonsense. Nigeria will be better when we stop becoming greedy, until then shoprite will resume stronger.
