In most primary/secondary schools in Nigeria and Africa,there is a norm as far as corporal punishments is concerned.

Where caning is allowed:

Males students are generally beaten on their buttocks and females students on the palms of their hands.

These are the laid down rules although there could be some exceptions like:beating of back,feet,legs

As a male student, how did it use to feel like when they beat your buttocks during your school days?

No difference, the normal beating is for your hand. You get severe beating if your offence is gross and it's usually at the buttock irrespective of the gender

Well, back in the days, you can be beaten anywhere depending on how much you can convince the teacher.

Most teachers beat you on the back... Whether girl or boy.

If you can lie that you are not feeling fine... then he/she might opt to beat you on the palms.

I had a teacher who flogs us under our feet . That was worse

That is where it all started; the cradle of gender inequality and favouritism.

I still have a black visible scar on the back of my left hand. A receipt to show the price i paid for skipping morning assembly after being caught and flogged by one big-headed teacher in one unity school.

Mr Dibia if our paths ever cross again, i will gladly show you the receipt and be prepared to pay my balance.

At times most guys wear extra boxers and inner shirts to reduce the impact of the cane on their bodies. But at times a knowing teacher outsmarts them by requesting they pull it off. Or by holding their trousers when flogging.

I think flogging is a temporary measure as a bad child will be a bad child. The whites dont make use of these crazy techniques. Yet they are far more progressive than us the supposed cultural and religious fanatics.

I thank God in the latter years of my secondary school life till i finished caning was abolished. After some teachers spent time in police cell.

Looking back as a free adult. I think the best means of correction is by mediation and talking sense into the child in a way that he or she will listen.

Back in the secondary school, even if I didn't attend school for a day, they will still write my name as one of the noise makers..

When we were kids, boys were flogged on their palms, on their buttocks, behind their legs, etc. Girls on the other hand were only flogged on their palms.

As kids, we didn't see it as anything since the idea was to inflict pain and both genders got fair measures of the pain.

That being said, I've helped you pick out portions of your post needing amendments. Strive for excellence, don't say that because you're used to being insulted, you've become impervious to corrections.

It depends on the teacher involved.
I find that flogging is mostly the same for all genders.
The exception is the "trouble" kids who usually get extra.

You may want to explore other punishment such as bush clearing and toilet washing
which may have a gender slant.

No I dont think the hands are painful like other body parts for me.

I went to a private school, they dont beat kids crazily so didn't really resent

In secondary school the girls were forming fine girls and don't like being flogged On the bum bum if you flog them for coming late, they will come early the next day.

As for the boys the more you flog us the more we get hardened.

When I day school those days, if you flog girls for buttock e no day tay dem go begin raise their skirts up and that leads to rape in most cases. those teachers or seniors those days go begin day eye the babe.

I dislike flogging in all ramifications only when the student has proven too difficult. but better still just rusticate the student and let him display his character at home with his parents. as an ex-teacher, there is so much that you can do. if the parents do not raise their children, always remember that you are not a substitute. A teacher's job is to teach and not to flog. I did not and have not flogged anyone's child. If you are stubborn, leave the classroom. That principle helped me cos my students make me proud home and abroad. I am able to reach the hearts of the deserving students. I have not eaten and you are asking me to flog a stubborn child. Just let them be. The future will decide. As long as you can, talk to them as humans and if they are animals, send them out of the class. Move along with the ones that want to learn or resign abeg.
