Simple dressing over formal dressing is preferable.

Imagine the heat of the sun, the sweating, the body odour associated with it.
Should have just put on a clean and bright coloured T-shirt.
Dressing formally in an informal setting only makes one look ignorant.
Just like putting on Suit and tie to work in a construction company which requires overall, safety boot etc.
I'm not implying an irresponsible dressing, but if one wants to stand out, one should stand out in accordance with the requirements of the settings.
If I should come across this man in a traffic jam hawking torchlights, the first thing that will cross my mind is pity.
It would have been better if he had a shop, an outlet or a stand where he sells instead of hawking.

Well, whatever suits him, if that gets him enough attention and more customers, why not.

But i personally might not buy from him, he looks like all this over religious people, and will be rash.

But how does my opinion affects his happiness and sales. If it makes him happy, why not.

If it gets him this kind of publicity, why not.

Your taste.

For someone to think out of the box, to be different, to dress in a way that shows he's learned... I don't see any wrong in that.
My taste.
