U23 AFCON Final round Qualifiers 2nd leg Update

Nigeria U23 striker Odey predicts 3-0 win over Sudan

Belgium-based striker Stephen Odey has predicted a 3-0 win over Sudan on Tuesday for Nigeria to go through to the U23 AFCON in Egypt.

On Thursday, Sudan pipped Nigeria 1-0 at home, but the Genk new signing has told SCORENigeria they will be gunning for a big win in Asaba on Tuesday to advance to the U23 AFCON, which will also serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“We just have to make use of our chances,” he declared after the team’s first training today in Asaba.

“We lost 1-0 in Sudan and it is now an opportunity for us to redeem ourselves in the eyes of Nigerians by winning with a good goal margin like 3-0 and above,we need to utilise our chances.”

The former MFM FC star striker, who has also been capped by the CHAN Eagles, will most likely lead the attack on Tuesday after he also started the game in Sudan.

Kelechi Nwakali is the only new player drafted for the return leg after coach Imama Amapakabo failed to secure the release of Club Brugge striker David Okereke and winger Orji Okwonkwo, who plays for Montreal Impact in the MLS.

Nigeria has a large pool of players then accept that the coach selected who he selected. Did you know that we had a CB as good as the dada boy that played in the first leg? You are being biased if all u can muster is to say that Imama was lazy.
He didn't select our best legs. Simple as that. With all the options he had - that was the best team he could put together?
Abeg stop defending that guy. He freaking played a rb in midfield. He is lazy. Someone like Tbaba1234 probably knows more about our U23 players than him.

Yes that is simply because the best are with the super eagles. Once we go away from that the rest is subject to how the coach feels. Those players are not poor and saying so shows bias and lack of football knowledge. A 1-0 loss is not as bad as this thread is making it out to be.

Why the late invite for Okereke and Orji? Bonaventure, Olowu, Ejuke, and Kingsley Michael could also have been part of the team.

The issue is not even the loss as much as the fact that the man had better players available but refused to invite them.

And you think the NFF would be able to afford bringing in all those foreign players when they are already paying for a friendly in Ukraine. I am sure that we would have heard grumbles if it were solely Imama's decision to select who he took.

Remember that most these foreign players will not be there for the tournament so you can't just use all of them and then use a new team at the competition.

He invited Faleye and Colliins. A division 2 and division 3 player respectively. Surely those slots could have been given to better players.

Imama is the coach, it is his responsibility.

Faleye was probably a collective sentimental decision which I myself would have signed off on. Here is a boy who's career was put on hold while representing the national team. For him to start also means he proved himself in training.

The coach has a right to select who he feels will get the job done. Collins performed in training from reports.

Oga, Faleye is struggling at a division 2 club. Invite your best players first. After losing, the man went back to the players he should have called in the first place

How is he struggling? Someone just joined a new club and you expect him to be a regular immediately. Oga that is not always how football works.

That is the case in most lists. The coach knows what he was looking for. I still believe they will win handedly on Tuesday

He left out better players than he fielded... Simple as that.
He played an rb in midfield - can you please explain that? Where was the creativity going to come from from that list?
Was Okereke, Bonaventure, Ejuke, etc with SE? Did we have a creative midfielder better than Ejuke?
