In April, 2019, 28 Lawyers were issued their letters of employment having scaled the hurdles of various interviews stages conducted by Oyo State Ministry of Justice, their joy knew no bound.
Their joy was however curtailed when the new governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde informed them that his administration cannot inherit the past administration's employees even though they were employed under the normal employment procedure and neither of them owns any allegiance to the past governor.
The governor informed them that his administration will conduct new recruitment and if they are interested they should apply. All appeals for the governor to retract his stands fell on deaf ears and the further appeal to him to pay them their 5 months outstanding salaries seems was equally overlooked by the governor.
Government is expected to be continual, but it is quite unfortunate that these innocent lawyers will have to bear the burnt of power play to which they know nothing about.
It is a shame that the governor to whom we all hold in high esteem will chose to play politics with a sensitive matter that evolves around lives and survival of these innocent employees.
Ajimobi employed fresh people 1 month to hand over...Who is fooling who? They should re-apply if they want d job. A smart lawyer should hv known that d employment letter ajimobi gave him was a scam

Those lawyers hv allegiance to APC n can be used to knock out PDP court cases

If they don't have anything shady going on, then they can seek redress in the court of law by suing the law enforcement outfit for harassment and defamation.

Simply because the tip is anonymous doesnt make the arrests illegal.

However, innocent until proven guilty.
Seek redress in the court of law at whose cost? To what end? So you would arrest a random person and put them through an expensive and traumatising ordeal for them to prove their innocence?

Some of you talk as if you don't live in this same useless country. You don't have concrete evidence; there are no complainants, yet you are rushing to arrest, name, shame, and prosecute. Is that justice? And you're here telling me about innocent until proven guilty.

In sane climes, law enforcement agencies do the HARD WORK of investigation before arrest. The FBI clampdown on the likes of Invictus Obi are good examples. They don't foolishly go on gestapo styled arrest sprees just for the sake of it and on mere suspicion (wasting scarce resources that should be used to arrest and prosecute proven thieves like Akpabio, Tinubu, Oshiomole and the rest). You have no point please. Let us insist that things be done the right way. Gestapo, Jungle justice law enforcement is what happens in Nigeria (EFCC, police, etc). We can't condone that; otherwise, you could be next, and I'll be very happy to have you go through hell to "seek redress in a law court".

Look at what the fbi people do. Once they get information from either victims or anonymous sources, they don't act immediately. They gather concrete evidence first. That's a civil society where everyone has a right and is respected even by the government and people in authority.
I agree partly, but you and I know freelancing doesn't just become big, it's slow and steady

If the EFCC do not have a good reason to go after these dudes, I bet you they won't

You can't be driving a car in the tune of millions and not either have a shop or office that people can identify you with

But you see a 17-20 year old in a 15million worth of vehicle

It doesn't happen even in saner climes

If you work on system and it gets big, you will surely try to expand your horizon

And register with CAC, with that EFCC will have to investigate properly before they arrest

I feel very angry whenever I read these kinds of rubbish reports about EFCC arresting this or that, only to see that they have zero evidence of anything. Just acting on mere unsubstantiated whistleblowing by envious or malicious idiots around.

Trust me, even if you're innocent, the EFCC would still expect you to bribe your way out of the ordeal, after making sure that you are thoroughly intimidated and [/s]traumatised. How can any country continue like that?
Stop writing nonsense.

Every day on Nairaland, we read about convictions in the law courts of these fraudsters. Most of them plead guilty in court.

Why you lot are determined to make the good guys bad whilst painting the criminals as law abiding citizens is exactly why you cry about the country day and night.

Learn to support law enforcement and stop tacit support of criminality.

[s]the efcc now is no more about evidence, all they need to Know is that you have a car and live on a nice apartment and they are immediately swooping in to raid and that's very very wrong. no single investigation is done, even the so called intelligence was from an unreliable source, probably one jobless fool in the neighborhood who should seek for job instead of staying at home and evious of youths living good. there are so many opportunities online, having a laptop is like the normal thing in this century, how can efcc see a laptop as an evidence. I for one my laptop is filled with ebooks and engineering videos and tutorials but the fact that I have a laptop already makes me a Yahooboy according to efcc protocol. that's how they intimate their arrestees into pleading guilty with the threat of a jail and them self go fear. Nigeria is a disgrace to the world[/s]
Shut up.

They would eventually plead guilty in court.

We see them every day on this forum.

When they are convicted, come online and proclaim their innocence.

I don't have time to engage APC zombies. No same human being does the kind of despicable job you irritants do here.

Someone pleads guilty and is convicted means what? You're probably a kid with no real life experience of how things work in this desperately wicked and corrupt country. You wouldn't know that the EFCC would blackmail and intimidate people to plead guilty in order to escape the long drawn out ordeal of detention and prosecution, regardless of whether they have any evidence against such people or not.

My brother you don't need to waste your time to educate these primitive buffoons. My God I'm so ashamed at how lawless and barbaric the average Nigerian is.

I understand that poverty and envy is a deadly combination and that is exactly what is motivating these fools who clap for the EFCC in spite of the agency's horrendous method of operation. Imagine the creature you quoted talking about 'if you have a good job"! Must everybody wear suit and form corporate guy to one office or the other every morning in order to be "responsible'?

Must everybody work in FIRS or CBN before you have a decent life? Even the so-called good jobs, they have corruptly cornered them for themselves and their cronies courtesy of vile nepotism and other backdoor practices, so they get very envious when they see shut out young people inexplicably making a way for themselves. They prefer everyone else without connections to suffer in poverty while the tiny few of them with access to so-called "good jobs" would enjoy life and carry shoulder for everyone else. Jokers.

They are irredeemable. I don't even waste my time trying to engage them anymore.

Shut up.

At the end, the criminals would plead guilty.

Their stolen wealth would be retrieved.

Most cases have their victims stated on their charge sheet.

The criminals deserve what they are getting.

Something tells me you are part of their group the way you are quick to support them.

You have some valid points but even FBI (US) and SOCA (UK) still act on anonymous tips when the need arises.

Having said that, a lot in our law efforcement system and overall societal interactions needs reorientation.

However, the quest of unhealthy wealth acquisition is damaging our society and the overall image of the country.

They actually draw attention to themselves, you see 10 to 15 boys living in a 3 bedroom flat. Then their many friends hang around during the day time smoking and making noise up and down. It raises suspicion.

I went to visit my mom some months back and there was this house about two compounds away from ours, the way i saw the traffic to and from that particular house i had to ask "which people dey live for that house self" and our uneducated hausa gate man (no offence) replied "na yahoo boys".

You're funny. Quote the relevant aspect of the EFCC Act so that I would tell you what it means.

Suspicion of corruption only pertains to transactions. What are the transactions (suspected of involving criminality) present in the instant case? Again, living above one's 'legitimate means' is only applicable to people with fixed incomes - salaried workers for example. How can you determine whether a person is living beyond his means when you don't even know what he does for a living? The EFCC should be more interested in investigating how MOST of their operatives are able to afford their super rich lifestyles (I know this for a fact), in spite of their modest legitimate salaries and allowances. It is not their job to determine whether a self employed person or entrepreneur with unlimited income potential is living "within his means", especially when there is no petition against such a person, indicating specific illegal activities.

The unfortunate thing about Nigeria is that law enforcement agencies are always eager to implement the letter of the law, not the spirit of the law. True, the law is an ass, but what we have in Nigeria is an institutionalised regime of tyranny whereby idiots in government institutions create imaginary loopholes in every law in order to benefit themselves and oppress others.

You don't run a government based on kalo kalo principles or chasing after shadows. My brother resources are very very scarce. No sane government wastes scarce security resources on nonsense pursuits like this. Save the resources for serious cases where you have water tight evidence.

The only reason why this rubbish gestapo style persists is because of the criminal corruption within the EFCC and its fellow law enforcement agencies. With each of these rubbish arrests, they are sure of collecting enormous bribes from the suspects in order to set them free. Those who cannot bribe their way out are forced to plead guilty and are then convicted by the conspiratorial judges in our equally corrupt courts.

I'm fed up with this nonsense to be honest.

You expect EFCC to be like FBI?

In any case, EFCC is very reasonable. Unlike the NPF and SARS.

EFCC do not parade immediately they burst in. They take the phones and go through it for evidence of anything fishy. And yes, in Nigeria, staying 24 hours at home, blaring loud music, smoking weed and shisha and having scantily clad women move in and out of your house is grounds for suspicion. Especially if you have a Benz and Avalon parked in your driveway. What responsible person would act like that?

No it isn't, but I'll wager they are.

Except you just want to pretend.

Nigerian cities are filled with gangs of Yahoo boys.

They have a modus operandi and they are easy to detect.

In addition, evidence by way of emails, various social media and dating site profiles, bank transactions, complaints from victims are used in nailing these idiots.

I watched a video where a guy that plays for enyimba was "arrested" by a cop, even though the guy was talking sense, the cop insisted that he is a Yahoo boy because he drives a Benz and has dreadlocks. That's the consequence of law enforcement by way of wagering.

The abuse of power will get steadily worse until any young man seen outside with by 6pm is a Yahoo boy.

Police forcefully collect your phone and go through it and you say it's right. One day it will be your turn. Any law by roguery, or that has any taint of rights abuse, no matter the momentary gain will be eventually abused by the the enforcers. Sane countries don't even arrest known murderers or ransack their house for dear that if allowed, it is the start of abuse.
