The coalition of northern groups, including the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, which gave Igbo residents in the North three-month ultimatum to leave the region, has written to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to facilitate the process of allowing Igbo to leave Nigeria.

One of the leaders of the coalition and National President, AYCF, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, confirmed this on the telephone to The PUNCH in Kaduna on Monday.



In the open letter, signed by five of the leaders of the groups, the coalition urged the Acting President to ease the exit of the Igbo from Nigeria so that they could have their dream country, Biafra.

This, they said, should not be through violent means but in a peaceful manner through a referendum.

Those who signed the letter are Yerima; Joshua Viashman (Northern Youth Vanguard); Aminu Adam (Arewa Youth Development Foundation); Abdul-Azeez Suleiman (Northern Emancipation Network) and Nastura Ashir Sharif (Arewa Citizens Action for Change).

According to the groups, the Acting President should take steps to facilitate the actualisation of the Biafran nation in line with the principle of self-determination as an integral part of contemporary international law.

They added, “We feel that it is risky for the rest of the country, particularly the North, to go on pretending that it is safe for us to co-exist with the Igbo given how deeply they are entrenched in our societies.”

They added that since the principle of self-determination became one of the Charters of the UN, after the World War ll, it was better for the Igbo to go without bloodletting.

The group argued that as the Igbo agitations persisted and assumed threatening dimensions, “we submit that there is the need to ensure that they are given the opportunity to exercise the right to self-determination as entrenched in the aforementioned international statutes to which Nigeria is a signatory.”



They insisted that they were not waging war or calling anyone to violence, but noted that “we nevertheless are also not willing to continue tolerating the malicious campaign and threats of war that the Igbo have continued to wage against us.”

The youth leaders stated, “Neither can we afford to continue giving the keys to our cities to a people whose utterances, plans and arrangements are clearly geared towards war and anarchy.

“We therefore demand that the only enduring solution to this scourge that is being visited on the nation is complete separation of the states presently agitating for Biafra from the Federal Republic of Nigeria through a peaceful political process by taking steps to facilitate the actualisation of the Biafran nation in line with the principle of self-determination as an integral part of contemporary customary international law.



“We submit that this protocol envisages that people of any nation have the right to self-determination, and although the Charter did not categorically impose direct legal obligations on member states, it implies that member states allow agitating or minority groups to self-govern as much as possible.”

The coalition continued in the letter that past experience had shown that the Igbo of Eastern Nigeria manifested their hatred for Nigeria’s unity barely five years after the country’s independence from the British “when on January 15, 1966, their army officers carried out the first-ever mutiny that marked the beginning of a series of crises which has profoundly altered the course of Nigeria’s history.”

They noted that even in recent times, the agitation for the Igbo to have the Republic of Biafra heightened with the activities of Kanu’s IPOB and never opposed by majority of the Igbo.

The coalition added, “Kanu and IPOB have declared full allegiance to a ‘Republic of Biafra’ and continue to preach hatred and war virtually every day, and not for once did any Igbo leader caution them.

“Instead, many of the leaders, including Mr. Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President, the most senior elected Igbo, pay Kanu courtesy calls to prove that he is speaking for the entire Igbo.

“Even the latest statement by the South-East Governors Forum, signed by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, in a response to the northern reaction, did not condemn Kanu and Uwazuruike but characterised their action as peaceful.

“While we do not see this clamour for Biafra as an issue over which a single drop of blood should be shed, we, at the same time, insist that the Igbo be allowed to have their Biafra and for them to vacate our land peacefully so that our dear country Nigeria can finally enjoy lasting peace and stability.”

But in its reaction, the apex umbrella for the Igbo, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said the North could not drive Ndigbo out of Nigeria.

The Deputy Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr. Chuks Ibegbu, who spoke to one of our correspondents in Enugu, said Ohanaeze insisted on the restructuring of the country, and not secession.

Stressing that the northern youths lacked the mandate to speak for the Igbo, Ibegbu noted that the Arewa groups were trying to provoke another war in the country.

Ibegbu stated, “In the first place, I want to thank the Acting President for the role he is playing in this situation. He is a peacemaker and he has shown himself to be conversant with the dynamics of leadership.

“The Acting President has told all the parties to allow peace to reign. Igbo are peaceful people; so, we will abide by what he said.

“We are conscious of what the Acting President told the Igbo leaders and the traditional rulers when they visited the Presidential Villa. Therefore, we will not be drawn into taking issue with these northern youths; they are people who have shown themselves to be lawbreakers and warmongers.

“The activities of these Arewa youths have shown that there is more than meets the eye to the ultimatum they gave the Igbo in the North. They simply want to drag the country into another war.”

Ibegbu stressed that agitation for separation was not peculiar to the Igbo, as claimed by the Arewa youths.

The Ohanaeze spokesman observed that the agitation in the South-East was largely a protest against marginalisation, rather than a wish for secession.

The Indigenous People of Biafra has rejected the withdrawal of the quit notice issued to Igbo in the Northern part of the country by the Arewa youths.

The Arewa youths, under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups, had ordered all Igbo residing in the North to vacate the region before October 1, 2017.

But, at a press conference attended by the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, in Abuja on Thursday, the Arewa youths said they have withdrawn the quit notice.

The Northern youths, who announced the decision through their spokesman, Abdulaziz Suleiman, in the same breath said they would continue to pursue “petitions to the United Nations and the Nigerian federal authorities calling for appropriate sanction of Nnamdi Kanu, other IPOB leaders and their sponsors in addition to labelling them a terror outfit”.

However, reacting to the development, IPOB described the withdrawal of the quit notice as ‘inconsequential’.

Speaking through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB asked the Arewa youths to ‘stick to the quit notice’, if they have any ‘honour’. The group equally urged all Igbos and other Southerners resident in the core North to discountenance the withdrawal of the notice and return home.

IPOB noted that history had shown that the withdrawal of the notice does not mean that Igbo lives and property are no longer endangered in the North.

“It is inconsequential to IPOB whether the ‘quit notice’ was rescinded or not because it will in no way impact the pace and direction of our effort to restore Biafra.

Northern Youths' Threats, The Prophet Of Our Time, Kanu, Had Warned Our People Severally

When the Biafran leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, ordered the sit-at-home exercise, he said: “observe the sit-at-home order and within four months things will start happening”. Though I believed his words I never knew that the happenings will be so soon.

On 6th June 2017 just a few days ago, Arewa youths issued a quit notice order for Igbos living in the Northern part of Nigeria to vacate the region or face another pogrom implementation.

According to Premium Times “Arewa Consultative Forum, ACYF, a coalition of socio-political groups in northern Nigeria, on Tuesday issued a three months ultimatum for all Igbos in the 19 northern states to vacate the region.

If the Igbos fail to leave by October 1, 2017, the group said, it would use force to evict the Igbos.

The group also threatened to take over all the landed properties of the Igbos after they had left the region.”

Before now, Kanu had asked our people living in the far north to return home and bring their investment back for a day will come when Hausa-Fulani will ask them to leave.

As God may have it, some of our people heeded to the words of wisdom, they brought their investment back home, some built companies in Onitsha, Nnewi, Aba and Emene in Enugu State. While some insisted that Arewa land is their motherland. The trumpet has sounded and the adamant Biafrans in Northern Nigeria is nowhere to be found to tell us how Hausa-Fulani their brothers are telling them to leave.

What's the anger of Arewa youths? Because Biafrans observed a sit-at-home to honour their fallen heroes and heroines.

The sit-at-home was optional but people unanimously obeyed it due to its significance to appreciate the efforts of those who died so that we may live.

During the sit-at-home, nobody was harassed, Hausa-Fulani communities living in Biafra land went about their normal day-to-day routine without molestation or abuse of human rights. Every nooks and cranny of Biafra land experienced a peaceful atmosphere with hundred percent compliance to the sit-at-home clarion call.

Then comes the question, “what could be the trigger of this joint press conference of Northern youths to force Igbos out of the North?”

The answer to the above question is ‘Hatred and Envy’.

The hatred didn't start today, in 1945, Northerners massacred Igbos in thousands during the first pogrom. In 1966, Northerners murdered Igbos in thousands in a counter-coup bid.

It is very wise to state it clear that whenever a Northerner mentions Igbo, he meant everyone in old Eastern region. Their madness does not separate Ijaw from Igbo to them up North, everybody down East is Igbo.

Some Northern elders and Nigerians have condemned the quit notice, even former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan took to his Facebook page and called for peace to reign between Igbo and Hausa-Fulani.

The same incident happened in 1945 and 1966 pogrom, our people were assured that nothing will happen to them but that was a plot to kill them slowly. Some Easterners ran to Emir’s residents for protection, Emir himself supervised starvation of our brothers and sisters to death.

Do we still remember the rhetoric ‘Nyamiri’? The origin of that term is at Emir’s palace. Our people were hungry and thirsty of water, they told Emir “Nyem mmiri” which means “give me water” in the Igbo language, the Emir, and his murder gangs could only hear “Nyamiri”. I'll be happy if younger people know how ‘Nyamiri’ came into existence.

History is a teacher, we can't fold our hands and watch our people face another pogrom, we need to be proactive and not reactive.

Sources have it that South East governors have plans to mobilize 100 trailers and 200 buses to bring our people back home, the tempo should be sustained because times are different. Ohaneze shouldn't be a weakling for asking Eastern governors to wait, the reparations should start as soon as possible.

Going by what happened in sunrise daily of channels television this morning where Yakubu justified the position of Arewa youths, it's very clear even to the dumbest fellow that Northerners used their youths to state categorically what is in their minds.

Yakubu said that “eviction order from Northern youths is the response to the sit-at-home order given by IPOB to the Biafrans”. He also arrogantly said that “Biafrans aren't supposed to remember those who died during the war”. Does anyone still ask who ordered Igbos to leave? The youths have blessings of their elders.

Nigeria is a contraption that has never served the interest of the masses, rather the elites and British Empire. Biafra is the only only redemption from the madness

Since inception of the Lugardian factory, Nigeria, it has been "death death death", "sorrow sorrow sorrow" and "agony agony agony". And curse shall befall anyone who insists on the forced entity called Nigeria to remain one.

The laziness of the Northern youths has bred envy, this envy has begotten hatred and hatred have led to bitterness. Our people say, “when a child fetches bigger firewood, the other children will attribute that firewood to have been gotten from the evil forest”. Igbos have invested in all over the world, including Ghana, South Africa, Ivory Coast, USA and Nigerian case wouldn't be an exception.

We encourage our people to return home first, ECOWAS will take care of their investment and none shall be lost. It's a promise we can boast of, none of our brothers' investment will be stolen.

More events are yet to unfold, Kanu has said it all, whoever has ear let him hear. We'll gladly share our food, eat it with peace than to lose our people up north.

We wish to keep international communities on notice to follow events as it unfolds, such threat isn't going to be handled with kids gloves because the last time we tried it in 1945 and 1966 our people paid with their blood.

The Nigerian government hasn't tamed Bokoharam ravaging the North let alone stop children whose parents have sent on a killing mission.

Bokoharam sacked Bornu people yesterday without much resistance from the Nigerian government, so what would be the fate of Igbos when mad youths start their blood orgy?

We also heard this morning from Daily post that they've retraced their steps back and started calling for useless ‘One Nigeria’; in 48 laws of power, a book from Robert Green, we call it "smoke screen". They want to conceal their intentions and plan very well to give our people a surprise attack.

Either you trying to be intelligent by half or highly incompetent. First of all, not one single Biafra seeking group opposed the quit notice. Everyone one of them supported it. Even Massob took up a stand and asked for referendum to be conducted. Secondly, No time did the North told Igbos to leave North and form Biafra. They said Igbos should leave North ONLY without any discussion on division. In what way shape or form does that in your head constitutes achieving what asked. Even the Arewa leader who made the announcement went on TV reporting his announcement was attempt to blackmail Igbo politicians to speak against IPOB.
