Meaning Ashiedu is a university graduate.

But a university graduate as a junior sailor?

Personally, I don't really see any big deal here o.

For the unintelligent ignoramuses who might start disturbing my mention, there is a difference between officers and sailors. Officers are university graduates while sailors are not.

The man with 3 yellow bars on his shoulders is the only officer in the 2nd picture, the rest are sailors.

1. Getting into officer training school in the. US is tough. Also you have to be nominated by your local senator for the entry

2. Another thing , as a sailor the guy has chances to learn skills that would serve him well.

3. And his pathway to.citizenship is much more easier .

4. As a veteran, he has access to relatively free health care , funding for his kids education, etc.

5Here in Nigeria, we have lower ranks who even go to university and further their education self.

Not exactly.

His path to.citizenship is a bit easier.

1.He can apply after one year of service(it took my civilian relatives over 10 years to get a green card self)

2. Many of the requirements that are needed for applicants don't apply to him eg being physically resident in the USA for a period of time

True, but he is more of an exception, as was Tsiga, NYSC DG in 2009

Army command posts are mostly for NDA graduates.

Any university graduate you see serving as an officer is under short service.

They will never get command positions and are limited to professional roles e.g. Medical, Engineer, accounting, etc.

West Point is the only institution reserved for training cadet officers in the US although like Sandhurst in the UK, not every graduant automatically gets commissioned as both West Point and Sandhurst cater to foreign students.

To get into West Point, you must be referred to by a serving US Senator.

The folly of commissioning University graduates as full commissioned officers can be seen with the likes of Ifeajuna and Ojukwu, who both graduated from university before joining the military. Ironsi even complained about having university graduates saying; "I asked for soldiers and they gave me graduates". He was right because these officers joined the military with their indoctrinated Marxist mindset and the rest is history.
He!he!!he asked for zombies & they gave him intellectual radicals.

its not by rank but what u can do and what is the worth. i prefer joining the US army and become a Sergeant to joining the Nigerian army and become a Colonel.
e no worth the stress, one of my friends in the US army, na corporal she be but she is a bloody recruiting officer. if na naija u must know general and senator before they recruit you.

I have .

See here https://www.uscis.gov/military/naturalization-through-military-service

Naturalization Through Military Service
If you are serving or have served in the U.S. armed forces and are interested in becoming a U.S. citizen, you may be eligible to apply for naturalization under special provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

Eligibility
If you meet all of the requirements of either section 328 or 329 of INA, you may apply for naturalization by filing Form N-400 under the section that applies to you. You will not have to pay any fees for applying for naturalization under INA 328 or 329. As a member or veteran of the U.S. military, certain other naturalization requirements may not apply to you; for example, you may not have to reside in or be physically present in the U.S. for any length of time before you apply for naturalization. The requirements for naturalization are explained in greater detail below.

This information is wrong, very wrong. A SSC can go beyond a colonel in fact most do.

The highest tenure is 15yrs if the officer doesn't convert.

Your idea of short service is warped, Short service is divided into 2: SSC and DSSC.

SSC: are full military combatants, who fight wars and are on the frontlines.

DSSC: are the military professionals e.g lawyers, doctors etc

SSC officers hold command, in fact they are placed in charge of platoons, battalions and formations. Lots of them are in the north east engaging BH.

Both SSC and DSSC officers can convert so as to be eligible to spend more than 15yrs
You nailed it.

Tigritis nailed it wella too with examples and proof.

That guy doesn't understand the concept of SSC and DSSC.

Argue not with ignorant people.

Wrong.

The military frowns on commissioning university graduates as they come with enough baggages.

University graduates are only shortlisted for short service, civilian reserve force or drafted during wartime into the officer cadre.

The Military has their own college for training officers.

Which baggages?those days officers goes through further trainings that made them hold command post.

The highest rank a short service officer can attain is Colonel and this is reserved only to senior professionals without going to War College.

The highest tenure is 10yrs also.

And they are never given command positions in whatever form as they are not trained military strategists and soldiers but rather occupy only non-command positions.

This is a big fat lie, come to 82 division Enugu. Most of the officers entered through short service. A brigadier general here entered through short service.

So I have some questions to ask.

Does that mean a captain combatant (ssc) is different from a captain dssc (let's say medical or accounts)
Do they both have the same power and can a dssc officer who is in the medicals or law give orders to soldiers ? I mean arranging them for one dirty operation or to deal with someone ? grin
