Bypassing is almost non existent now,as the new pre paid meters have usage records at the DISCO,s just like GSM companies have records of calls. And they have software that monitors your usage and sends signals if there is a funny change in your usage ....You must have noticed areas that have received prepaid meters have very improved supplies?
Oga Nigerians are way far smarter to what you post

Their licenses will expire by december this year so it is simple the government will not renew their licences.

The so-called hike is not enough to generate profit for the discos. Until the rate crosses N110/kwh, we will continue doing merry-go-round.

This is somewhat true. But there should be some sort of way they make it work. Maybe putting the meters on the electric pole or manufacturing advanced meters that can't be bypassed.
1. Putting the meters on electricity poles

Most do that. Doesn't take much for determined customers to get vandals who've ladders.

2. Advanced meters that can't be bypassed

Smart meters can detect tampers, even ordinary meters have a tamper mode. But unless on very smart grids, bypasses can hardly be detected. Because the meter itself is bypassed (hence the term) to steal energy.

It clear the privatization of the power sector is a failed project. I just hope Buhari can muzzle the will to take over the sector, return it to government just as when it was NEPA.

With the poor maintenance culture of Nigerian government,it will become 3 steps backward. We should be talking about integrating more investors to avert monopoly and improve competition which is good for business.
